This message is for Rhonda (and Andrew too).
There is lots of advice on this site about what to look for in a
motorhome regarding the truck chassis and engine. But here is
some additional advice from a female about the coach itself. Be
sure to check out the air conditioning (both cab and roof units)
and especially the refrigerator very carefully. These items are the
most expensive to repair apart from the engine and chassis,
($200 - $800+ ea.). So before you buy, turn them on and run
them for a while to be sure they are putting out optimum cold.
The fridge may need to run for several hours to reach its peak,
then check it with a fridge thermometer. If it's not colder than
45° you may have a problem fridge. The older the model year
the more chance the fridge is worn out. If an RV is not parked
really level when the fridge is operating, it not only won't keep as
cold, but it causes the fridge to lose its effectiveness over time.
That's why you see RVers with all sorts of levels, ramps, jacks,
boards, rocks, etc. under their coaches. It's more for the fridge
than the occupants! Also check out the fresh water tank. Run
the sink and shower and smell it. If a coach has been sitting for
a while it can become quite foul, and need some major
disinfecting to get rid of the bacterial growth. Check these items
carefully because you don't want spoiled food or nasty water to
be making you sick when you're out to have fun.
Good luck,
Tika
P.S. $5000 sounds too high for a '79; maybe that much if it was
an '84. A fairer price would be about $2500 - $3000 if it is in nice
condition. However, if you like it, get it; and you'll have joined
the ranks of Toyota motorhome owners.

I have never owned an RV before and I want something as a

within a 300 miles radius of my home. There is a 1979 Toyota
Travette
with 50,000 miles for sale in the local area. They want $5000
for
it.Seems to be in good condition. I need advice. Is this a good
price?
Is this a good RV? What am I getting myself into? I am looking
for help
from all you experienced RVer's.
Thanks so much.
