My New Year's gift... Letter A of Winter Wonder Alphabet
Marie - My Embroidery Haven
The new year is starting... I have started a new alphabet for you guys... we
will proceed the same as last year... one letter per week... the letter will be sent as an attachment for those on Individual Email... all others will have to come to the group to get it... Since we are now over 8500 members here... traffic can be something else when it comes to try and download from the group... so I strongly suggest you switch your settings to Individual Email... if you need help.. let me know... As we did last year... when the alphabet is complete... you will be given ample time to verify if you are missing any letters... but when that delay will be over... the alphabet will be removed to be sold on the website... So as was my suggestion last year... Please... download each of the letters as they come out so you do not end up with missing letters in the end... You will find the letter A of Winter Wonder attached to this email if you are on Individual mail on my group ... I hope you enjoy it... Happy New Year... and may this year be the most wonderful yet... LOL Marie Website: Thread Artist & Authorized Embird Dealer Group: No mail.... just fun projects, free designs & website updates |
Re: STAY HOME MOMS

I'd have to agree, although I had the best of both
worlds, a job flexible enough to allow me to do everything my youngest did. My oldest, I was not so lucky with. I worked full time, was a single mom and yet, he still turned out more than OK. Now he and his wife have decided they will find a way for her to stay at home. She was laid off and that has given them the time to work this out since she is looking, but is also collecting unemployment at this time. Since she was laid off I have seen the stress on their marriage cut in less than half and although she's always been a nice person, she is more organized and she even calls him honey now. She has patience and has the time to do things with their 3-year-old she's never had time for before. Their daughter is adopted and they worked so hard to get her I hated to see her have to leave her and go off to work. My daughter, expecting any day, and her husband have decided unless there is absolutely no way around it she will not be going back to work either. I support stay-at-home moms 150 percent if they can possibly do it. We worked really hard at this women's lib thing, but my biggest feeling was always I wanted to make the world a better place for my daughter so she would have the opportunity to decide what she wanted to do. Congratulations on your decision. Susan __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Send holiday email and support a worthy cause. Do good. |

STAY HOME MOMS
JUDITH
That would be great if you can find away..I went to work for SWB n Beaumont Tex. when I was 18 and as time went by the money and benefits got better and better and I just could not every find a way not to work.I also worked to jobs while still married ( my ex seemed always to be out of work or getting pay cuts and he had to collage ed..).I actually quit two times but always had to go back to working out of the home..I tried the baby sitting thing I love my sons dearly but I am not a nursery worker..lol..They did not turn out to bad one has 2 degrees and a partial of his master, one has changed from a high stress management job to just being a employee which was good for him but not so good money..My youngest was on the deans honor roll at OU for several years and has a great job in Dallas and is working toward making it possible for his wife to stay home with their 4 mo old son and 19 mo old daughter..It may not have been as bad as I thought..Some how children to survive if they are
loved enough and know your are doing your best for them..Judith |

Win Booklover designs by sharing your favorites on dirtcheapdesignsupdate
Below is a copy of a message from my Yahoo Group
I am running a contest, the prize is my booklover designs. People who respond on my group with thier favorite reads of the year will be entered in a drawing for the designs. Only responses on my group will be entered. ------------------------------------------------------------------ Hello all, as you can probably tell from my designs, I'm an avid reader. The contest of the week is going to be a drawing from all the people who respond with thier favorite books of 2004, and give us mini-rewiews or why they liked them. The prize is a set of my Booklover Designs, which you can see at www.dirtcheapdesigns.com For years I've kept a book journal of all the books I've read during the year. It's fun to look back and remember the books I've enjoyed, kind of like looking through a photo album. Here are my Best Picks of the year: (these are all books I rated a 9 or ten on a scale of 1-10) The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde (she's a literary detective, she goes inside of books, very imaginative) Lost in a Good Book by Jasper Fforde, sequel to above. Can You Keep a Secret by Sophie Kinesella, the author of the Shopaholic series, I don't read much "chick lit" but I love this author. The Circus in Winter by Cathy Day, a series of inter-related stories about the circus and it's performers. The Dogs of Babel, by Carolyn Parkhurst, this was a very odd book my husband read it and hated it. A man is searching for the cause of his wife's suspicious death. Only his dog witnessed it and he is trying to make the dog talk. Year of Wonders by Geraldine Brooks, a story about a woman who servives the plague in 1666, sad but very well written Eragon by Christopher Paolini, this has to be my favorite of the whole year. It was written by a home schooler and self published by his parents. The son of the author of Skinny Dip Carl H-something, got it published by a big time publisher. It's very much like Lord of the Rings, basically it's about a dragon. It's going to be a trilogy and I'm looking forward to the others. Nothing like a good book with a story behind the story. Pull of the Moon by Elizabeth Berg, Red Hatters will love this story, a woman is trying to come to terms with growing old, she takes off and the book is her letters to her husband and her journal entries. I've read this twice so far, and it's on my shelves to enjoy again. It's a very quick read. Nine Parts Desire: The Hidden World of Islamic Women by Geraldine Brooks. She wrote Year of Wonders, but this is non-fiction. She served as a journalist in the Middle East, and these are her encounters with women and men in those countries. Very interesting in today's climate. The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseni, this book has a fair amount of foul language, which I don't care for, but it was very interesting. It was also very sad, because it's a story of two boys from Afghanistan. It's well written and a page turner. Its a best seller on Amazon.com So there you see, I'm a very eclectic reader. What are your favorites? I'm going to draw a name from all the people who respond with thier favorites of the year, and I'll let you know next week, to give everyone on vacation a change at the prize. Happy reading, and sewing, Karen Horvath |

I am using PE design and block punch. So I have learned something today.

If you are using PeDesign, you cannot use hole setting if you have used the "block punch" tools to make your shapes. If you have used the tools that just make the outline to put fill in, you have to be sure that the hole to be cut out is TOTALLY WITHIN the shape under it and is not outside the underneath border at all. We do get the messasge "invalid pair was selected" if there is something selected that is not able to have hole setting applied. > Subject: Re: HELP_Manual punch question > I keep getting the message that an invalid pair was selected. -- Carolyn www.carolyndesigns.com www.carolyndesigns.biz www.carolyndesigns.us Detailed original embroidery designs Home of the cottages -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Re: Organizational Help needed
Laura Schimmel
I too use the folders with a theme, then sub folders so I can find designs without hunting through thousands and some designs are in several folders ie. Redwork Santas are in Redwork, and the Christmas sub folder Santas. I was attempting to burn back up cds only to find out a virus had attached itself to one of the files for my burning software and my virus protection detection had deleted it. Since I bought my computer from a rental place, it didn't come with the original software cd's, and now I am saving toward buying the software from the maker. I think the main thing in organizing your designs, is to find or develope a system that works for you. I know some people find my folder system to be a headache, and just stick designs for all occasions into folders with the creators name. That would never work for me, but I do have folders for my favorite digitzers, as it is easier for me look for their designs that way.

Re: What do you embroider on most often?
Laura Schimmel
i am
needing to get up to speed on design placement as i want the linen to remain intact in the middle with the designs on the border of the fabric. Cheri, I am wanting to do a table runner like you are talking about. I have thought it through, and here is what I have come up with. Since I am planning on useing FSL designs I will stitch them out on WSS, rinse them out, and let dry. Then I'm going to put a hankerchief hem in fabric. Now I will lay out the FSL pieces so that I can get the exact placement I want, trace the outline, and cut out leaving a scant 1/4 inch extra fabric. Net using a satin stitch sew the FSL pieces in place. I know I need to learn actual design placement, but right now life is hectic, so I look for ways to help prevent failed projects and keep everything going smoothly in my sewing area. Re: Organizing designs
Whatever you do, have a back-up to your designs on floppy
discs. In transferring from floppies to Buzz Explore, I found that several floppies had disintegrated to the point where the designs were no longer available to me. My most important designs were safe, thankfully. Now, I keep a few on floppies, but they are in B.E. and also on CD back-ups. No one knows how long the CDs will last, but should last better than the floppies. I expect to start thinning in B.E. some day this year and shall discard what I don't like any more. But those designs may stay on CDs for a while. I keep reading that floppies will be extinct in a few years and I wonder what those of us with machines that use floppies rather than CDs will do. At my age, I can't really see the prices of the new machines. Unfortunately, unlike computers and TV sets, the prices don't seem to come down. I quess we're a 'captive audience'. My DH keeps telling me not to worry. Good luck! Ruth Ruth |
Re: 14 years ago in Okla.
Laura Schimmel
Laura, staying home with my sons is the biggest regret of my life..I had no choice.
I have only been able to stay home since July 2003, so I understand how you feel. During the time between my husbands I never worked less than 2 full time jobs, went to school, and at times added part time jobs so that I was often gone 20 hours a day. DS stayed with my parents, and I missed so much during that time. Now he is closer to my mom than to me, but I had to what I had to do. Now I'm making up for the lost time, and I truely admire the working moms that I see at all the activities, because I know what a strain it is for them physically to have a full time job, then run to this meeting, that ballgame, or sneak in to be ringside at a stockshow. Right now we are considering me going back to work, but we have crunched the numbers, and decided that if I have to do something to help out financially we are going to figure away for me to be a WAHM (work at home mom). That way I can still be available to the kids and work around their schedules. Laura in OK --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Take Yahoo! Mail with you! Get it on your mobile phone. |
