UHF 420MHZ Micor Mobile no pl encode
I have a low uhf micor mobile (old board) according to the manual.
it did not have a decode board in it when I got it.
i put one in it and did the mod to the board to bot key the exciter at all times. I must be missing a step somewhere because it will not transmit pl. receives pl just fine.
Any thoughts? |

You do realize that decode and encode on a MICOR mobile requires two vastly different boards?? If you actually installed an encoder, but it's not encoding, is the reed vibrating? Do you see the PL tone on the encode board with a scope? Can you reference the modification you did (give the URL?) Thanks, Kevin |
开云体育Kevin,
Sorry for the confusion.
This is referring to the encoding of pl. nothing to do with decode. The decode portion of the radio works great...sorry for the confusion. Here is the link.

Please answer the other questions. Additionally - does the transmitter key properly with the encode board installed? Kevin On 4/21/2025 10:10 PM, Tyler- WZ5TX via groups.io wrote:

开云体育I’m more confused after reading your second post.? The link you provide below is to modify a Micor PL encoder so that it doesn’t send reverse burst.? It doesn’t cover what is required to install a PL encoder into a radio that has never had one before.? ? To add a PL encoder to a previously carrier-squelch exciter, you have to cut a jumper on the exciter in order for the PL encode board to take control of exciter keying voltage as it needs to be able to keep the exciter up longer than the incoming PTT for the duration of the reverse burst (whether or not you make the mods in the link you referred to are irrelevant in this regard).? I don’t remember what the jumper number is (i.e. JUxxx) on the exciter board, but it’s whatever jumper that goes between PL encoder board header pins 1 and 4. ? Also, depending on the vintage and/or split of the exciter board, you may have to install a jumper on the exciter board to route the encode PL tone to the audio amp/summing network that drives the varactors in the channel elements with the composite voice and PL tone. ? I’m on the road and don’t have access to my paper manuals so this is from memory (and distant memory at that).? Look at the manual, and/or maybe Kevin’s memory or someone else’s can confirm what’s left of mine.? ? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? --- Jeff WN3A ? ? ? Sorry, brain fart, I forgot that we were talking about a UHF Micor mobile rather than a repeater.? There is still a jumper potentially involved to sum the PL into the voice audio, but the composite audio then modulates the offset oscillator, not the channel element as it would in a station/repeater. ? ??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? --- Jeff WN3A |
开云体育It is transmitting just as it should. Voltages are where they should be on the encode board. I have not looked at it through a scope yet. That will be something I look at tomorrow.
I tried a few different vibrasenders and vibrasponders as well.
I will send pic of back and front with it plugged it, tomorrows

开云体育I seem to recall that if it was ever associated with MDC 1200 or some other data device there is a lead somewhere on the plug that can disable the PL transmit during data transmissions.? 开云体育As for the link,
The mod listed is to enable pl on transmit at all times. I will get pictures of the boards this evening.
There is 1 jumper on the control board, but once removed it will not tx.
For the newer boards it does call for the jumper removal, but not the older style. I did not know that till I kept looking.

? You mentioned a jumper on the “control board”, not sure which board you mean.? The jumper that needs to be removed for proper keying is on the exciter board.? The jumper that may need to be added is also on the exciter board.? There are no jumpers that need to be added or removed on the PL encoder board. ? One other thing that has made its way through a lot of dead brain cells – there were two versions of the Micor PL encoder board, with the biggest difference being the alignment/spacing of the pin sockets.? Here’s a pic of the two boards, confirm you’re using the right one for the exciter you have. ? Also included is a pic of the Micor “flat audio” board that took the place of the PL encoder.? 开云体育I believe it’s JU404. The jumper is in place. When I removed it I lost TX. Encoder board was in.

So, if the encoder was in place, and that jumper is in, you might not get PL tone on tx.

Again, that allows PTT to go through the encoder to give you reverse burst delay. It might also enable the encoder output, iow, leaving that jumper in place may mute the encoder output. If the encoder is in, the jumper should be out. On 4/23/2025 8:54 AM, Tyler- WZ5TX via groups.io wrote:
