I'll check, Do you need for both transmit and receive? How many of each? Any
particular frequency you are looking for?

I would need transmit and receive (a minimum of one set right now, though I
have a stack of the beasts and might eventually want to do something with the
lot). I'm making an attempt at building a 2-meter repeater out of two of
them.

I've heard from several people that, as long as there are not temperature
extremes, you don't need a channel element as the crystal will plug directly
into the radio without the element. Maybe I could build a "heater" using a
thermister -- I'll have to check my manual -- which I received in today's mail
-- and see.

Thanks.

Kevin,
I have a jpg image of the RS-12 but it is about 195K! If you wish I can
send it to you if you are in a hurry. If you are willing to wait, I can
reduce it in size or make it a gif image.

Let me know.

Re: GE ICOM's

Yes, you can interchange them, but you can never use an EC element with
a 2C. The temperature compensation for an EC *must* come from a 5C
element. The 2C only compensates itself.

If you have a copy of the schematic and have a scanner, I will
give you pointers on how to scan the image and make a nice

Large Heat Shrink

Kevin K. Custer W3KKC

I was asked to post this again, so here goes....

Hello All,

I recently received several requests from people on the list
wanting to obtain the large heat shrink I use to seal the Comet
and Diamond fiberglass antenna joints with. This stuff is great
for sealing connectors, antenna joints, covering shovel and
sledge hammer handles and covering tool handles like large
Crescent wrenches.

This shrink has an inert sealant that melts as the heat is applied
for shrinking. This creates a good (won't leak if it was drug
across the Atlantic) seal. Well maybe not that good......but damn
good.

It is available from Jerry Conn Associates Inc.
They are located in Chambersburg Penna.

The manufacturer is CANUSA. Pronounced canoosa.

The available sizes (unshrunk of course) are indicated by the
model number.
Example: Part number;
CFTV-400 is .4" (that's point 4 inches)
CFTV-1100 is 1.1" diameter
CFTV-1300 is 1.3" diameter
CFTV-2050 is 2.05" diameter and so on

These come in a 4 foot length.

I believe the shrink percentage is 50% of original, This is not
fact however.
I don't remember the spec. on shrinkage off hand... but it does
shrink a lot.

These are the available sizes:
The ones with pricing are normally in stock.

CFTV-400
CFTV-750
CFTV-1100
CFTV-1300 $5.16
CFTV-1700 $5.95
CFTV-2050 $11.41
CFTV-2750

These people have a $50.00 minimum order, so get together with a
friend or two and place an order.
They will sell directly to the public.
The models listed without pricing are available through JCA, but
are usually not stocked.

If interested in purchasing, contact Tracy at Jerry Conn
Associates.
1-(800) 233-7600 in PA
1-(800) 233-7370 out of PA
1-(717) 264-1547 Direct Line from anywhere.

The CFTV-750 is great for RG-8/PL-259's or Type N connectors.

In our business, we use a propane torch to shrink the tubing. It's
wall thickness is very good, and not easily damaged by a
little excess heat. You can actually catch it on fire and not
damage it badly. It doesn't shrink well in windy conditions,
(requires lots of propane) In severe wind I use MAPP gas as it
gets burns hotter than propane, although this is usually not
necessary. I have used this stuff for years and can attest to its
quality if installed properly. There are other cheaper brands of
this stuff than CANUSA , but (in two words) they suck. There is no
equivalent. I tried them all.

Here is a pix of the stuff we use in the catv industry.

They also have a good quality Self Amalgamating Tape that is much
better for covering connections than Black Tape.

I'm using a PSX-SE on UHF, so I must have programmed it for the ham
band, but I don't recall how. I probably had to edit the hex data. If
you can't find anyone else who can do it, I'll research it more. It can
be done. :) *** One word of warning: The oscillator becomes
intermittent at low temperatures (<20-30). I don't recall how I got
around that problem either, but I think it involved adding or removing a
transistor. But when it works, it works very well.

If you are on 2 meters or lower, you can point three in the same
direction and the fourth in another, but the elements cannot be at the
same level (elevation). You will, however, loose gain in the direction
of the three elements by facing one in another and could have a problem
if you are on a large tower. The elements must remain at the required
vertical spacing. At 440 and up, you cannot - they must all point toward
the same direction. You might get away with it at 220.

I Have a few questions on repeater Antennas

Michael Lussier

I am looking for some help with antenna questions for my GE MASTRII/RANGR
Repeater
What is the consensus on 4 bay dipole arrays for repeater antennas ? I
have looked into the coverage maps with both the 4 bay dipole array and an
Omni stick. The closest repeater on the same pair is 50 miles away. The
idea of going to the array was to place a null in the direction of the
other system. According to my coverage maps it cleans up and expands my
coverage going to the Omni.
Now for the second part of the question. The 4 bay array antenna have a
phased harness can I put three of them at the same level and the fourth
antenna as a reinforcement in the direction I want ??

Currently the 4 antennas on the array are on the western leg pointing North
and South my coverage is for no better word Terrible
7 miles away to the east I get an S4 , to the west 20 miles an S9
