The Mitreks are easy to modify for repeater service. You will need to reduce the TX Power output since the heatsink is small. You will need to make a shield over the Channel Elements to get more Tx to Rx isolation. I will look up my notes and send them to you later on my duplex mods to the mitrek. Try Triton Electronics Inc. in Rolling Meadows IL. They do repairs, alignments and calibration. I purchased the service manual (thick as a phonebook) on a CE6 from them about a year ago for about $75. Good Luck. Bob Loehrig -----Original Message----- |

GE also has a version of the Motorola "extender" for Low Band. DB Products makes a Low Band Loop Dipole that can be side mounted on a pole or tower leg. It is a DB-212. They also make a directional antenna with 1 director, the DB-225 for 5 db of gain. Db's phone number is 800-676-5342. I would run around 50 watts with that PA. Your Transmitter duty cycle will depend on how hot the PA gets. You will need to check your system for desense when you get it all hooked up. Reduce your power until the desense goes away! Or add more isolation to your duplexer or use split antennas. John Lloyd, K7JL ---------------------- Tedd Doda wrote: From: "Tedd Doda" <lazer@...> |

The Mastr II solid state is a much better radio for repeater use. You could use one of the others, but I would choose the Mastr II. John, K7JL --------------- Tedd Doda wrote: From: "Tedd Doda" <lazer@...> |

My Alinco DR-M06 is horrible at noise rejection on the other hand. Both radios hooked to the same antenna (not at the same time, hi!) shows the Mitrek has a fantastic Receiver. From all the replies I received, I get the impression that either the Master II or the Mitrek will work well. A couple other questions..... I purchased a commercial 1/4 wave ground plane antenna. From experience, will this suffice for the repeater, or should I look around for a better solution? The antenna will be mounted about 140 feet above ground feed with 1 5/8" heliax. I've been looking around but can't find any side mounted dipoles for 6m. Is there some other design I should look at. The DB product duplexor has been tuned up and I got about 91 Db isolation from TX to RX. What would you recommend for maximum TX power, to keep desence to a minimum? After visiting the Master II mods page, they said that the transmitter doesn't like going below 40% of maximum TX power, and it's a 110 watt unit. Therefore, the minimum power I should set it to is about 40 to 45 watts. Is that too much? Ideas? Tedd Doda CET packet va3sed@va3sed e-mail lazer@... |
Cushman CE6A service monitor?
Greetings,
I have a Cushman CE6A service monitor which would prove extremely helpful in my repeater projects. Unfortunately, my service monitor is in need of repair. Additionally, I do not have any kind of manuals for the CE6A. Does anyone know of a reputable company that could restore my CE6A to operation, align to factory spec, and possibly also provide me with at least an operator or users manual? The symptoms are that the service monitor loses lock on highband VHF and is completely unusable. Additionally, it works very poorly on the other bands.... Very poor RX sensitivity, low RF output.... etc. I would be very grateful if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks very much. 73, de Gary, W7NTF |
UHF Motorola Mitrek mobile?
Greetings,
This is Gary, W7N TF, in Spanaway, WA. I have two UHF Motorola Mitrek mobiles that I was going to convert to repeater service before I got ahold of my GE Mastr-II mobiles. I may still go ahead and finish the project and keep a Mitrek for a backup repeater. Has anyone successfully converted a UHF Mitrek mobile for repeater service? Was it difficult, and what problems did you encounter? I bought a pair of rocks for one of my UHF repeater frequencies and found that one of the two Mitreks fails to transmit... The other transmits and receives ok, but still requires an alignment. I am looking for TXA, RXA, COS, and PTT connections in order to interface with my LinkComm RLC-2A or RLC-1 Plus controllers. I'd like to hear from you... Thanks. 73, de Gary, W7NTF |

lightning strike - the real thing to look for is, which if either unit has an RF noise blanker? The Motorola "Extender" is a terrific noise blanker that will remove all but the most horrendous of impulse noises that otherwise would destroy weaker received signals. I expect GE has something similar, but I don't know what it's called. This will make a very great difference in the operation of your repeater. Only the old Master (1?) base unit has tubes, the Master II (mobile) is solid state. Any comment on RX sensitivity over the Master II, and the Mitrek? The donor Master II is still on 42.something, so I can't really do a fair evaluation, unless they are both inband, but I don't want to waist time (money) on rocking the MasterII if the Mitrek is more sensitive. the GE's and then have the recurring expense of replacing the driver and final tubes? In addition, the mobile power supplies are intermittent duty, so you'll have to build a high voltage power supply, as opposed to hooking up a deep cycle marine battery and an el cheapo battery charger to the Mitrek. 6 meter repeater..
Tedd Doda
Hi People:
I'm looking for information on modifing either a tube final GE Master, or a mobile Canadian GE MC74XC833A (100 watt mobile, Master II I think?)for repeater use. Which would be the better choice? I also have a Mitrek...would this be better for use in a repeater? This is my first 6 meter repeater project, and I would like to hear any thoughts on what to use. I have DB products duplexor (6 can helical resonator, notch) to use and is all tuned up and ready to go. All I have to figure out is what radio to use and how to modify it for duplex operation. Thanks kindly, Tedd Doda CET packet va3sed@va3sed e-mail lazer@... |
