Just bought a Wilderness kit with the KC1 keyer to compare to my qrp-tech 40A but the seller doesn't have the manual for the KC1. Anyone have a copy of that they'd be willing to email me?

I've been lightly playing with the bleeding edge Beta releases (the last one before official). Lots of NEAT new stuff, like via stitching and SPICE built in. If you have Kicad4 files you might run into some library problems (I have!). But I'll play with the new stuff for a few more months until the "bug fix release" is here, then move 100% over. Like Windoze - never upgrade until service pack 2 comes along.........

The taxes are new (and for a while continue to be a nightmare) but I have had this problem in the past, not with Digikey but with Allied. Also, especially with Allied, beware of NCNR (non-cancellable) items. Even if they have stock on hand at the time of order but then "stolen" by another order you go on back-order, if the replenishment is 6-9 months out they will stick it to you. The devil is in the details.......

First of all,? this is not a slam of Digikey. This is just a FYI (for your information).? Their service is great.
Last week I sent a USPS money order to Digikey with an order to take advantage or their free shipping...or so I thought.? They called me this morning and informed me that 2 items on my order were back ordered and 3 months out and would I accept a substitute. I accepted the substitutes but the original items back ordered came to $7 where the subs came to $27.
She then informed me that the supreme court had ruled that they have to collect my local sales tax even though they have no local presence in Washington state and in this part of Washington it is 8.6% and how would I like to pay.? I naively went ahead and paid with a debit card.? I could have mailed them another check and delayed the order another week.? What they did not mention was that by paying the balance with a credit card I lost the free shipping.
In short,? you no longer get out of paying your local sales tax even though Digikey has no presence here.? This is apparently true on all orders, not just prepaid mail orders. Second, by accepting substitutes that came to more than my original order I loose the free shipping if you pay the balance by credit/debit card.? I learned that I have to include local tax figured into my total.? I also learned to specify no back orders and not accept substitutes if the subs come to more than the original order remittance.
So just be aware of these rules and changes.

Last night I was watching a FOSDEM youtube video about the new changes in KiCAD 5.
I was pleasantly suprised this morning to see the new release was out.
So I quickly upgraded to KiCad 5.
I like the changes.
It is nice that the libraries are local now and not on github.

Digital Research of Texas in Garland.? I worked with Jim Tanner (Tanner Electronics
in Carrollton TX)? where I bought all my stuff
while living in Dallas and Bill Gates (B.G. Micro).? I wrote a memory diagnostic
routine for several systems and published in Dr Dobbs.? Small world.
I know a bunch of QRPers that used to shop at Tanner Electronics and probably
still do.? I bookmarked the page and will later run through the stock.

The EPROMS in mine have gone flopbot and I was remiss in not having copied them down into a preservation file.
I have no way of inventorying the Kaypro floppies of which I have boxes.
I am interested in a 4 if the shipping's not too dear.
It's a good little machine and I've owned it since it was a newborn pup.

William, Not my idea.?? The transceiver started out with only the use of toroids. It was one of the ways in which Dave Benson kept the cost down for the transceiver. In the files section of [email protected] is a directory 'NE4040 Project TBD' that was started some time ago, but lack of interest at the time delayed the project. Now that I have the PCB software figured out, I've decided to get crazy with a number of old in the queue projects. BTW, the 68B09 SBC Computer is not an S-100 design or a revival of same as some one posted, but it is a project resulting from the use of the PCB software. thanks, chuck, k7qo

Project has been hinted at and not formally announced.
It will not be ready for prime time until late Sept or so.
1.? Yes.? Gerber files will be available for sending to board shops.
2.? Completion planned in late Sept.
3.? Videos will be done.
4.? Will use LaTeX to create a complete document on the project.
5.? Multiple bands will be planned, since you can use LC combos
???? made up from different toroids and cap values.
Again, this is a project for later in the year.? Just wanted to see
if there was going to be any interest.? Lots of guys are no longer
building.? And there will be no parts kits available and this will be
do it on your own kind of project.? PTH parts only.
I recommend for all that have interest.? Search your library and
the Internet for NE4040 info and look at what you would do.
We will rename the project AZ4040 later and hoping for a price
break of $40 USD for board (100mm x 100mm hoped for) and
also hoping the $5 per 10 boards will be still be offered by one of
the Chinese board firms.
I'll get a preliminary list of general parts to get from ebay in
Sept.? I'd recommend a large assorted collection of 1/4W
resistors (I like the metal film) and mono caps to start.? Hoping
the tariff wars do not kill off building projects for me.

(1) Will this be the same M.O. as the NorCal 40A Silver Anniversary project with the Gerber files available to send to a PCB house?
(2) If so, what's your approximate ETC for the Gerber design files?
(3) Will you be doing a series of videos on this..
(4) .. or will you be working off a "pilot document" as a base for building?
(5) Assume it will be possible to build a 20m version of this.
