Re: One tonight

Same thing here. I heard Jim work Bob, KB2FEL, and within about a
minute, Jim had dropped from an honest S7 to well below my noise
floor. Coincidentally, that noise floor came up a couple S units in
the process.

Never hear a peep out of W0NTA or any of the hounds calling him.

OTOH, I made considerable progress in bringing the Century 21 back to
life!

I heard Dick for quite some time but was not able to get him to
reply to my call, although he seemed to be quite busy.

After failing for some time I qsy'ed up freq and was able
to hear Jim calling. Fortunately he was also able to
hear me (works SO much better that way) so I "bagged" my
very first fox! Thanks Jim!!

I then went back to Dick just in time listen to him slowly fade
away.

Much fun!

Re: FOX change for tonight

During last week's hunt, I disassembled and started degreasing the PTO
from a Century 21 resurrection project. I guess tonight, I'll get it
all back together :-)

With the fox change and the fact that I'm seeing the most optimistic
VOACAP predictions in weeks, there's a chance that maybe, *just*
maybe, those of us north of 42 degrees have a shot at a double bagger
tonight!

FOX change for tonight

posted for Jim:

Since I was unable to make it last week, and Dave,
N1IX has the flu and
can't make it tonight, I've agreed to Be one of the
Foxii for tonight.
Standard disclaimer applies. Working split at the
beginning until the
clamor dies down later on in the hunt. Frequency
somewhere between 7.030
and 7.050. I'll call either UP or DN to indicate
where I'm listening and
the split will be 1-2 KHz. Please do NOT call on my
frequency if I'm
indicating split. This just causes QRM for the rest
and will result in no
pelt for yourself. Happy Hunting

FOX - Thanks guys!

Larry Makoski W2LJ

A big "thank you" to all of you out there who hung tough with me and got through to NJ. Conditions were indeed tough; as someone on QRP-L previously mentioned. For those of you who were looking for me; but never found me, I was transmitting at 7.042 and listening up 2 for the first hour or so. I was giving the RIT knob judicious use to pull out call signs. For the second hour, I went "simplex" as it were, listening & transmitting on 7.042. I used both my G5RV and Butternut vertical for even amounts of time - switching between the two pretty evenly.

From the first minute on, it was a wall of call signs - then at about 0253Z, it was like someone flipped a lightswitch - no more calls! I think I got a dozen or so in the last hour. I don't have the logsheet with me right now.

Tomorrow, or over the weekend, I will post the preliminary log. All I ask is that you notify me of any corrections directly, so we don't clog up the reflector.

Thanks to all that worked me. I apologize to the bunch of you that may have been calling; but that I just wasn't able to pull out.
I enjoyed myself immensely; and look forward to serving as Fox sometime again in the future now that I have gotten my feet wet. In the end, I believe that together, we completed 39 QSOs in the allotted time period. I wish the bands had been better and that I could have handed out even more pelts. But all that said, why do I feel like I just worked about every QRPer that the state of Texas has? ;)

Substitute Fox!

Larry Makoski W2LJ

Okay guys, coming out of the bullpen for Jim W???EB is the rookie, Larry W2LJ !

Due to last minute circumstances, I will be your "other" Fox tonight, along with Rick W???IS.

As per usual, I will be listening somewhere between 7.030 and 7.050. When I call "CQ Fox" or announce QRZ, I will indicate whether I am listening "UP" or "DN". When you hear me; tap out your call and if I hear you , I will come back with:

YOUR CALL 559 NJ Larry 5W K

The you pass on your information. If I ask for fills, please be patient. As a Rookie, I'm sure there will be a ton of butterflies flitting around the ol' shack tonight. As the night progresses, I will switch from split operation to "normal" so I can work those of you who don't have the facilities to work split.

I will be using my K2 @ 5 Watts to either my G5RV or my Butternut HF9V vertical. I will alternate between the two to try to hear and work as many of you as I can.
73 es GL (GL to me, too! Whew!)

FOX Change tonight!

Lloyd Lachow

Jim,W0EB, had something come up unexpectedly
tonight, so Larry, W2LJ, will be sharing Foxing duties
with Rick, W0IS, tonight.

I say this most regretfully, as Larry and I will not
likely hear each other, but...c'est la guerre!

Good luck, Hounds!

Ohio triple 2fer

william squires

Out of the strangest conditions of the Fox season yet comes Ohio's triple 2fer, WOW. Way to go John K8WDN and Mike WA8BXN . Lots of noise and QSB that was so fast by the time the fox got his call out he was gone or barely esp level.
I stuck to my plan this week and stayed with AC7A until I got my pelt then went hunting for N9AW . Jerry could not be found at the start of the hunt but was now loud enough to work if the qsb would subside a little. I bagged him a short time later to complete my 2fer for the night.... About 5 minuets later he was gone.
Hope everyone was as lucky as me.
