Pretty good night, but a few busted QSOs, due to
QSB - sorry. Wish I could have heard the sub-ESP crowd
in the last 30-45 minutes, too...!

Thanks for a fun Season! Corrections direct,

Re: The Return of ET

Hi, Lloyd, guys--

lol...what happened to the no-spotting rule??<<
Well, I was sort of thinking of that as an ANTI-spot-- a reminder that hounds
will have to search the entire 20Khz. If anything it becomes a semi-spot when
YOU imply something based on "insider knowledge." [g].

So to clear things up, I will beak from the current practice of not telling
hounds where I will be-- I will absolutely be operating on 7R040+/-R1.

The Return of ET

Hi, guys--

I'll be one of the foxes tomorrow night, in the season-ender with Lloyd K3ESE.

No idea what condx will be like, of course, but if last week is any guide it's
quite probable that a path will exist for only a few minutes at a time. I have
a directional antenna (C4) and expect to be rotating it more often than usual
and will also switch to the vertical from time to time. So... if you have
trouble hearing me, don't give up.

At the beginning I will be sending DE N1FN UP which means I will be listening
above my transmitting frequency, but exactly how far up is something you'll
have to figure out. Generally you can expect me to listen closer to home and
eventually zerobeat as we get into the second hour.

Don't forget we have had to abandon the "up/down" convention where one fox was
above 040 and the other below. [g]

Good luck, and may the Fox be with you....

FOX: final week...K3ESE

Lloyd Lachow

Here we are again - about to face the future with
nothing to look forward to, except Atlanticon, FDIM,
the Summer Fox Hunt...

I'll be one of the final Foxii, along with
Marshall, N1FN, tomorrow night. Particulars are
available at . I'll be found
somewhere, anywhere, between 7.030 and 7.050 MHz, and
I'm hoping for enough skip to keep it going for the
full two hours. (crazy, I know)

I'll be using a borrowed K2 at 5W to the hawgwahr
loop, and I've got a lot of peltii to distribute to
y'all...

But, all seriousness aside, it's been a challenging
and, for the most part, enjoyable Season. Thanks to
all the Foxii, Houndii and to my fellow Committee
members for all pitching in to provide the fun!

see you there,

FOX: W1RT prelim log 3/11/2005

Wish I could have given out more pelts, but it was fairly busy for the
first hour. Band seemed to change right around 0300 and QRM pushed me
up to around 7038 in the second hour. Didn't do much good :(

I had fun anyway, and I'm looking forward to the summer series.

End of Season Extravaganza?

Joe asked on QRP-L...

... 10 foxes on at once,
working on frequency. I think I worked all but one that night, that was a
blast. Wondered if you guys did that anymore? <<

We are in fact thinking about it and might even have a new "wrinkle" or two.

It would be either the week after next, or we might take a one week "break" and
do it "super-bowl style."

Watch this space...

It may get better next year. As the SSN reduce the A index also goes
low. As long as we have no other strange events the D region
absorption will be very low.
One of the most successful hunts this year was N4DD. He had a very
very low A index and Sun Spot number next to none.
40 should open up early and stay open later with low SSN's

Hi all,
I think I have only had one or two Foxes that were really loud at the
beginning. All the others that I have gotten were originally ESP to 229,
and I had to wait for them to get stronger.

That¡¯s why it pays to listen, and scan the band segment continuously for the
whole two hours. People that concentrate on the loudest one often lose the
opportunity to bag the other guy, and then the one they were listening to
eventually fades out.

Yes!

I finally bagged Tom at 0307Z. It was amazing how
he came up from ESP levels at the beginning of the
hunt; to the point where I didn't even need
headphones anymore during the second hour.
same for me...nothing at all, at first, then up to Q9
on the QSB peaks.

Ditto
for me too, re: W1RT. Where was Jim parked ? I
heard neither he; nor the hounds chasing him.
Jim, I mean John was at about 7032.5, then moved up
to about 7038 for the last 30-40 min., I think. Not
that I heard him...I went down to the low end and
tried to work TO7C.

It's been quite a dry spell this season, and I'm afraid that the
declining SSN will make it even worse for the next couple years - at
least for those of us who aren't in TX ;-)

Worked Tom at about 0250Z - it only took a couple calls to figure out
where he was listening.? Nice, solid S5 signal here.?

No joy with W1RT; I didn't even hear any hounds calling.? However, I
did hear a LOT of PSK31 and Pactor.? Was there some sort of digital
sprint going on?

Lloyd Lachow

Brent, WB4X, won't be able to hand out pelts this
Thursday, but he'll be replaced by John, W1RT, in
Virginia. John will post later, about his
setup...enjoy! Only four more pelts left this Season!
