Preliminary 40 Meter Log - K4PQC
This is my preliminary log for hunt #39 4/8/25. If you have any issues please let me know. Thanks for all the help in spreading out. With QSB and my noise floor wondering from S-3 upward If I could make out your call you were definitely an S-5. Just after 0200z the band started going long and signals started going south.... There are a couple of duplicates and both sent the same report... not sure what happened, usually it is a drop in power levels or the posting wasn't sent. 72 and thanks for your help. 40 meter Foxhunt announcement 4-9- 2025
To all dawgs, Here is the drill as I understand it; I will be one of the two foxes for the last hunt of the 2024 - 2025 winter season along with Marty - NR3Z in PA. I am located on a small horse farm in N. GA about 12 miles south of UGA campus... home of the dawgs. I will be operating somewhere between 7030 and 7050 KHz, 0100z and 0229z. Most of the time I will be calling: " CQ FOX K4PQC UP" I will be listening UP between 1 and 2 KHz. My exchange will be your call, your RST, GA, Phil & 5W and your call again. When I hear and copy your exchange and post it to the Fritz map, I will send your call again and either UP or CQ... If, by chance, I copy several calls I will send all the calls, then my exchange ONCE and then each of the calls, one at a time. Please spread out as I will be looking for hounds in the clear underbrush. If I don;t call UP please don;t zero beat my calling frequency. This also goes for times that I DO CALL UP, I will also be listening to my calling frequency with another receiver and if I hear any stations calling me I will be the one sending UP. I hope it is clear that I will NOT answer ANY calls on my frequency! As I have been plagued with local power line noise (PLN) I may have some difficulty, especially working weak stations, so, please be patient with this fox. 72 and good luck and hope you get your pelt. Phil - K4PQC Bishop, GA

It started out great for the first 15 minutes and the the MR, QSB started to play games.I think I got them all right and I appreciate all the call sign repeats. Last call was about 10 after 10 and I moved down near my call frequency 3.557 and nothing. The 80 meter band has not been friendly lately. KW4NJA Preliminary log 80M 4.4.2025
6
Wow.....this was one TOUGH night!!! QSB and QRN, Static crashes galore. I'm sorry there were several I could just never pull out of the noise. I was able to give out a few more pelts than I expected. I started on 3.566 listening "UP" 1-2 KHz and then went to simplex at 0158. Many of you were smart hounds and came back for a confirmation QSO. 80M is just one of those bands that can either kill you or make you stronger. I think I'm a stronger op after tonight for sure. Here is the prelim log........look it over and let me know of any changes. Thanks again for a great hunt......even with all the noise. Good Morning Hounds, As Dean N2TNN mentioned, I will be the other foxii tonight. Coming to you from the woods of Northeast Georgia, I will operate somewhere between 3.550 and 3.570 MHz on my FTDx10 gated back to 5w into an OCF Dipole up 23'. I’ll start out split, calling “CQ Fox de KW4NJA UP.” If and when the pack thins out, I'll switch to simplex, “CQ Fox de KW4NJA.” I will repeat your call at the end of my exchange, so please correct me if I miss something in the QSB. I will be sending to the "Fritz Map", so if you don't see your call after we have worked, please feel free to find me again for an insurance QSO. Hope to hear you on 80M! 73 Scott KW4NJA Athens, GA

All you HOUND dogs: I’ll be one of your two foxii on 80 meters Thursday night, along with Scott, KW4NJA in GA. I'll be operating from Chesapeake area of Virginia between 0100Z and 0230Z and within +/- 10Khz between 3.550-3.570 MHz I’ll be running my K3 throttled down to 5 watts into full 160 meter loop up 55 feet. I will be posting QSOs to the Fritz map (http://www.k4oaq.com/fox), so you can check the status of your pelt. I will start running split, up 1+ and may change to simplex toward the end of the hunt. My exchange will be RST, VA, Dean, 5W. I will expect the usual RST SPC Name PWR from you. I’m sure everyone is aware to the damaging weather in the Midwest this evening and it’s expected to get to me tomorrow evening. W4CMG Preliminary Log for 40M Hunt 04/01
Another interesting night in the woods! A few fumbles with the log entry when I hit "enter" to soon. Sorry, Dale WC7S - your first QSO landed on the map with your "alias" the first time around. It was corrected before the next op, but there needs be an "oops" button that the fox can hit on the map (Fritz ? :) ) I went simplex just shy of 20 minutes before the end, when 40M got even noisier, and there was new some competition from a station who started calling CQ. Wish I could say it worked, but not quite. Apologies for the partial calls that I could never capture in the noise, and those I heard calling, but never heard their exchange. K9DRP 40M preliminary log 04/01
Well, it started out pretty good, if you discount my computer freezing up around 01:13. Turns out I had hit the "`" key in the call section which made my keyer produce a continuous carrier. I was scratching my head for a few frantic moments! But everyone waited patiently for me to get it corrected. Thanks The noise and QSB continuously worsened as the hunt went on. You start out shooting fish in a barrel and end up digging hard to pull out a signal by the end of the hunt. There were a couple of stations at the end I just couldn't pull out and I apologize for that. Thanks to all who gave it a shot. W4CMG 40m fox announcement for Wednesday , April 2 GMT (Tuesday April 1st evening)
2
’ll be one of your two foxii in the 40 meter hunt on Tuesday evening, April 1 (April 2 GMT date), along with Don, K9DRP in IL. Look for me to be handing out pelts from Nashville, TN, grid EM66qd, between 0100 and 0230 Z and between 7030 and 7050 kHz. I’ll be running a Yaesu FT-991-A turned down to 5W into an inverted vee G5RV up 35 feet. I plan to be posting dots to the Fritz map (http://www.k4oaq.com/fox) so you can check your QSO, as long as technology cooperates. I will start running split, up 1+ and may change to simplex toward the end of the hunt. Exchange is the usual RST SPC Name PWR (RST TN CATHY 5W). I will repeat your call at the end of my exchange, so PLEASE be sure that I got it right before sending your full exchange. Some requests: * Faster doesn't mean better. I will be running at 20 - 22 WPM, and will slow when responding for those who need it. * If you hear me call another hound, please QRX until the QSO is finished. * If I’m running split, please don’t bunch up, because I’ll be listening outside the bunches. * Same for simplex, please don’t zero-beat me. * If technology cooperates, you can check the Fritz map to see whether I've logged you. If you see dots for "Worked W4CMG", and none of them are yours, then a repeat QSO is welcome. Looking forward to handing out anther round of pelts for this season! Good luck! 73/72, - Cathy W4CMG

K9DRP Fox announcement for Tuesday, April 1
2
I’ll be one of your two foxii on 40 meters Tuesday night, along with Cathy, W4CMG, in Tennessee. I'll be operating from "The Banks of the Wabash" near Marshall, Illinois between 0100Z and 0230Z and within +/- 10Khz of 7.040 MHz. I’ll be running my Argo V throttled down to 5 watts into an EFHW up 50 ft. with an East-West broadside, and to an OCF up 40 ft. with a North-South broadside. I will be posting QSOs to the Fritz map (http://www.k4oaq.com/fox) using ACLog on Linux, so you can check the status of your pelt. I will be listening up to as high as you're willing to try, so take advantage of that range. I doubt that I will run simplex, unless things get awful slow. However, I will listen nearer to my transmit frequency for the last 30 minutes so that the old rigs without split capability can use RIT to make the contact. My exchange will be <Your Call> RST IL Don 5W <Your Call>. I will expect the usual RST SPC Name PWR from you. I hope to give out pelts from coast to coast and beyond! Good luck and happy hunting! 72, Don, K9DRP
