Hulme End at Narrow Gauge North 6
Hi all A bit late in the day, but with all the uncertainties in the world right now, I haven’t asked before. Not actually 014, as it’s 017.5, but built to the correct gauge for 2’6”, Hulme End is at Narrow Gauge North this Saturday. If anyone here can spare an hour or two and fancies operating, do let me know. Cheers Paul

Conundrum over scale width waggons. 15
I have recently been in discussions to look at having some 3D printed wooden FR slate waggons made. I cannot do 3D drawing/printing, so am looking forward to this little project. It does throw up a problem though. The 7mm NGA 2T waggon has been stretched to make it wide enough to fit oversize 16.5mm gauge wheels. The Port Wynnstay chassis that I used as a base for a pair of scratch built wooden waggons, built some ten years ago is the same. The test print of the scale size 2T wooden waggon is scale width. A 14mm gauge wheelset will just fit in, but it will use 2mm Association tiny bearings and cut down axles. However, the waggon is some 3mm narrower than the other kit built stock. My feeling is to ask Alan to stretch the print by 3mm to match the others, but that is making it inaccurate! What do others think? I have uploaded some photos as album 'Festiniog Slate Waggons' Paul

Lyn - pickups 6
Has anyone worked out a satisfactory arrangement for the electrical pickups on a Slaters “Lyn”? The spidery bar frames and cross-members mean that the usual pcb busbar between the wheels isn’t suitable, but space for anything else is very limited. I’ve managed to fit a rough-and-ready setup on the original David Nicholson kit, but I’m hoping someone has devised a more elegant solution!

Flexible Track for O14 7
In light of the recent discussion of flexi track for O14 with an element of derision for 3D printed bases and the usual belief that someone should do something about it (who is this someone, its never the proposer) I thought I would ask someone I know who has just done just that. Kieren Haskell is a friend and a model manufacturer based in Taiwan. As well as producing models in his own name, the Puffing Billy Na 2-6-2’s in 0n30 for example, he does a lot of work for other manufacturers that sell products under their own name. One of those is Wuiske in Australia who produce HO models of Queensland running on 12mm gauge track. They did sell Peco HOm track for this but there were supply issues to Australia, so they contracted Haskell Co to make their own track. This happened relatively recently so these prices are a valid indicator. Costs Rail Extrusion Tool- ?1600 Rail Material - ?41 per Kg with minimum order constraints but bigger order discounts its only ?36/Kilo if you order 500Kg Injection Moulding Tool - ?7500 That gets you into production to which you will have to add: Machine to cut the rail Machine to thread the rail Packaging Printing Shipping Import Duty VAT Profit So, it’s doable and I know a man who can do it and would do it for us. That just leaves two things outstanding: - someone to front up ?10k or so to get it going and, Decide what exactly you want I suspect that last item will be the insurmountable one Paul Martin EDM Models

Slaters Lyn 22
Prompted by the discussion on Lionheart engines, this has arrived today. I will not be starting it for a couple of weeks snd will outline the build over on NGRM. Then a full write up in The Review. Initial inspection looks promising. Some very fine resin castings and clean whitemetal and brass. The etched bar frames will be fun. I’ve gone with the Slaters SG4 and Faulhaber motor Paul

Lionheart 7mm rtr L&B Locos announced 49
At the L&B Gala this weekend, Lionheart Trains announced a range of 6 M-W Locos and 10 Carriages for O-16.5. Two prototype bodies were on display. By the simple procedure of trimming the axles, these are all designed for conversion to O-14. Expected release is about 12 months. Something that may be of interest to members of this group? Regards, Martyn

Demo Engine - Loaner Required 4
Got an O14 loco that is a good runner, dc powered and won't mind a bit of exercise? Right, so a week on Saturday its the 7mm NGA exhibition. Some clown has decided to release O14 track and is building a demo for it temporarily repurposing an embryonic part of my 0n3 layout. Said Clown........ Has just one O14 loco at the moment Has several that if i did nothing else might be possible to finish for then Has loads of other things that need finishing to show you on the day Is also mobility impaired at the moment so has to be realistic as to what can be achieved Is there anyone out there that has a couple of shortish wheelbase loco's that would run reliably on a shuttle track that they could either send me before the show or bring with them if they are coming? If its the "send" option I will, of course, pay the shipping. Your reward may well be O14 and flexible Thanks (with finger crossed) Paul Martin

Last big layout? 8
When I say ‘last big layout’ it doesn’t mean it will be the last one that I build. I just have a hankering after a continuous run like I had with Dyffryn but with a bit more operational potential. I have a scheme in mind based on a GVT plan drawn by Roy Link for the Railway Modeller and reproduced in one of the Reviews. Whilst based very much on the GVT it would be like Dyffryn in as much as it would give me somewhere to run and showcase stock from between 2’3” to 2’6”. I would try to keep each train to its prototypical formation, e.g. TR trains, CR trains, GVT trains, W&L trains and SDR trains. Whilst I have quite a collection of FR and other 2’ gauge kits to build, I would prefer to build those to 14mm gauge. Hence my dilemma of which one do I build? Of course I could just build all the stock and then impose myself on others to run it on their layouts! I also recognise that I have quite a ‘sable’ collection (stash acquired beyond life expectancy) too, some of which has already been sold on. RtR in either 016.5 or 014 is to be welcomed if it means I don’t have to build some of the stuff I have accumulated over the years. Well done to Lionheart for being the catalyst of the most activity I can remember on this Group for quite a while. Long may it continue. Cheers, Robin

O14 mainstream - was: Lionheart 7mm rtr L&B Locos announced 16
Richard I don’t think O14 will hit mainstream until ready to use turnouts are available. My interests are 021 which is even more niche than 014. But if O14 became more mainstream, would you still want to model in it? O14 has its attractions because it’s needs a bit of work and skill to achieve! best regards Stay safe Stay sane Kelvin

Walmer branch
I was looking at the map of the Walmer branch in Sydney Moir's 24 inches apart and was wondering what the radius of the tight Street side corners might be. They look very severe but don't feel confident enough to guess a figure. Does anyone out there know better than me? David

Thanks for the replies. The Avontuur one I'd forgotten about. The Indian one I'd never heard of. Looked it up. It looks fantastic. Thanks again. David

600mm suburban trains. 3
Hello, I've just read that the Tramway da Cantareira was one of only two 600mm suburban railways that have existed. Despite some intensive googling I'm no nearer knowing the identity of the other one. I thought of the Gwalior but I'm not sure. Does anyone have any better ideas? David.

Britain from Above 9
Perhaps others knew about this already but this is a new website to me. The search works with town names and "Lynton" turned up this interesting image of Lynton in 1920: https://britainfromabove.org.uk/en/image/EPW000975 I hadn't realised how far away from the town the station was. It looks like they could easily have got it nearer. John

I recognise I will need to change the wheels ‘ trucks. Does anybody know of a P48 io list or Facebook page? thanks now to return to all things narrow.
