Amberley Museum’s Autumn Industrial Trains Day Sunday October 11th
Official press release: Amberley Museum’s Autumn Industrial Trains event, primarily aimed at the enthusiast, this year falls on Sunday 11th October Much of the industrial loco collection will be out and about, and down at the De Witt Kilns we should have the standard gauge Simplex 4wDM loco ‘Burt’ in action at various times. A conducted ‘Behind the scenes tour’ will take place at 2pm (meet in the triangle area, takes about an hour). We’re looking forward to meeting old and making new friends. We also offer 1-day ‘Steam Footplate Experiences’ through the year, so why not ask one of our railway volunteers about which dates might suit you? Amberley Museum is a 36 acre site set in the South Downs National Park dedicated to industrial heritage, with communications and electricity exhibition halls, working printshop, stationary engines, lime kilns and more. Visitors can take free rides on the narrow gauge railway or historic bus. The Museum is home to a variety of traditional craftspeople, such as the wheelwrights and potters, with a café, gift shop and nature trails. ?We open from March to October and hold many events ranging from children’s activity days to classic vehicle shows and the ever popular Santa Specials. Full details at www.amberleymuseum.co.uk.

drive system for you that will not intrude into the cab area.

Re: O14 locomotives
开云体育Hi David,
?
I think the original motor supplied with the Ruston’s is the Mashima 1015
.
?
My re-motored Ruston has a Mashima 1020 . I think I may have had to remove
part of the firewall? Looking at the model now, there is a hole in the firewall,
and I cannot remember for certain, if that is how the kit came, or whether I had
to do some modifications?
?
By comparison, my BullAnt packet tells me that my Bullant powered Ruston’s
have Mashima 1024 motors. (Major firewall modifications.)
?
I like to let my models run continuously, so for me, having more power than
necessary will ensure that I am not over-working the motors!
?
I hope this helps?

Hi Bruce
?
By sheer coincidence my Ruston's
motor disintegrated while this thread has been going on.? Although I am a
fan of the BullAnt I was thinking of just replacing the old motor with something
a tad larger.
?
Can you recall which motor you
used and were there any pitfalls of which I should be aware?
The loco will only run with light loads, in the order of 3 skips, but it is a long way from one end of the layout to the other! ?
Many thanks

Hi Joe,
?
My experiences:
?
The Ruston kit supplied power chassis, works OK. However, the motor is very
small, and I found the wheels could have been better. My plan to replace the
mechanism addressed both these issues, with a much larger, more powerful motor,
and very high quality (Nickel Silver – I think?) wheels.
?
I do operate at least one Ruston with the original wheels, however the
motor has been upgraded, and this Ruston still has all its cab interior
intact.

Re: O14 locomotives
开云体育Hi David,
?
You are correct with what you have written. I thought I mentioned this in
an earlier posting, however a compromise with the Bull Ant was the removal of
most of the cab detail, including the motor, driver’s seat and firewall /
driving controls. The Bull Ant motor is considerably bigger than the original
motor supplied with the kit. My driver sits on the Bull Ant motor, and this
obscures the view into the cab, so I don’t think it is that noticeable that the
cab interior has been removed.
?
On the Loepold Haller website, I tried to zoom the pictures to see how the
mechanisms worked, and then the pictures lost clarity. I wasn’t sure what gauge
these mechanisms are (16.5 mm?) however I suspect they have very small motors.
With a tram, the motor only has to power one (very light) carriage, so motor
power is not that important.
?
Best regards
Bruce

Re: O14 locomotives
Hello again Bruce,
I have looked on the Holywood foundry site. I have seen these Bull Ant units at a show and was impressed but ,looking at the basic4-wheel bogie, I can't see how you would fit this over a KB Ruston chassis as the flywheel or motor would take up the full length of the engine comaprtment and the cab. You have obviously achieved this so am I missing something?. Also I have looked at the Loepold Haller website. They have a good reputation for tram bogies. One in particular for a so-called old-timer tram would appear suitable. Has anyone used these and,if so, can they be regauged to14mm? David |
