Re: Slaters L&B Coach Kit
开云体育For c1908 livery (India Red)?I used to use (I think Phoenix)?LMS Crimson Lake. I now use Vallejo Dark Red over a Humbrol Dark Earth undercoat (which makes the Dark Red much richer). For the lighter panels I use cream and off-white (in the proportions shown in the 'blobs' I photographed for Narrow Lines!) Don't get hung up on what isn't an exact science, no matter how many people try to tell you otherwise. There *is* plenty of science to demonstrate that we perceive colours by contrast, but it is what works for you by way of body versus window surrounds that matters. As Paul H says, there are many factors to take into account: a recent issue of Finescale Modeller showed the same aircraft in 3 different lighting conditions and they look very different indeed! For Christmas I bought myself a book on mixing acrylics so I could cut down drawers full of paint to about a dozen colours from which all I want can be made up. Hi?
I do not know of any specific makers of L&B paints, but would suggest something from the Phoenix Precision range would do. ?You may have found this article on line -http://www.009.cd2.com/liveries.pdf This rightly points out that no records survive and black and white film is notoriously difficult to interpret. Add in light conditions, reflections, scale effect and distance effects as well as weathering in the salt laden wet west country air, then no-one can guess at any 'correct colour'? There is an LSWR salmon in the phoenix range, with a selection box of browns reds and creams ?They are excellent paints (no personal interest apart from end user) which I now tend to use exclusively. ?Plus mail order very prompt (if not cheap as they correctly use courier not the GPO for solvent based products.) Re: Slaters L&B Coach Kit
Thank you Paul for your help, I already use Phoenix Precision Paints for my LSWR stock, I will check out their site to see what they have, my shoot of an email to them to see if they can help me, from what I can see from the printing of the Slater's instructions for the 1898 livery, the L&BR Coach Salmon looks like a creamy flesh colour, the Chestnut I think could be made by experimenting with a Crimson Lake let down by a Mahogany colour, I can only experiment and see how things go, I already have the circlets for the 1898 livery, I purchased these from EDM.

Re: Slaters L&B Coach Kit
Whilst on the subject of L&BR Carriages, can anybody give me some pointers as to where I can buy the following coloured paints, for the L&BR Liveries shown in the instructions, I am interested in getting hold of;
L&BR Coach Salmon, L&BR Coach Chestnut, L&BR Coach Ivory and, L&BR Coach Crimson What I am intending is to build my carriage stock to represent the line as at opening in 1898, and also to represent the L&BR post 1903, the only mistake the L&BR Trust has made with their carriages is that they have been painted in the later Crimson and Ivory livery and yet they carry the circlets that were carried with the Chestnut and Salmon livery, I wonder if there is an intention of returning carriages in Southern Railway livery owing to the fact that the replica of Lyn is in this livery. |
Re: Slaters L&B Coach Kit
Lovely kits, but do double-check the back-to-backs against the O14 standards. Mine were all too wide and rode up out of the turnouts on John's PLR. I sent a copy of the standards to David White and they've re-tooled, but just in case there are some old axles around ...
The new kit will be of the open 3rd (coach 7 et al) type. I got to see an early part-build at Bristol 0-Gauge trade show this January. By the way, it was only at Bristol that I realized that Slaters produce the bogies separately as a kit in their own right: Paul sells them from EDM. Very handy for finishing those 'scratch aid' L&B kits from Golden Arrow and Worsley Works. David H Chelfham O14 |
Re: Slaters L&B Coach Kit
I like this thread, I have purchased direct from Slater's two of their L&BR brake thirds with 14mm wheel-sets, I have found the kit to be some what easy to work with once I get around to building them, I have also purchased from John his lovely couplers and I can honestly say like the coaches I am looking forward to adding them to the coaches, the only thing stopping me at the moment is my backlog of work on building my LSWR stock and locomotives.
I read in the O Gauge Gazette that Slater's will be releasing a second L&BR coach kit soon, is this true, and can somebody tell me which type it will be please? |
Re: group wiki
I've done a bit more cleaning up and a big pruning of the o14group website. I've split the Hall of Fame into a layouts and Locos etc. sub sections and started adding some of the residual posts into the latter. Please anyone feel free to continue with this - and adding more too.
I've removed the broken links on NG&I and added one to this group - and to another forum John |

开云体育I’ve been in touch too, Peter has some battery locos still in stock and is hoping to get the others in stock by late summer.Cheers Geoff On 7 Mar 2018, at 10:12 am, Paul Fisher via Groups.Io <paul.wfisher@...> wrote:

开云体育Having now moved those pages on to the NG&I website (which I agree makes sense) you might want to also update to remove links to the o14group website that now throw a 404, Mark On 17/03/18 13:53, John C via Groups.Io

After discussion with Roy we have decided to host the Review excerpts on the NG&I website at? so I have altered the link to my trackwork articles to point there. Roy has kindly created copies of all the NG Sand and Gravel articles so again I've added a link from the Hall of Fame. John |
Using OOn3 wheels from Dundas Models
开云体育I have finally ?added my own item to the wiki ‘Resources’! This is on the recently introduced 8mm metal wheels from Dundas Models. ?
? The OOn3 12mm gauge wheels come on 20mm long, 1.5mm diameter axles which match those in my Roy C Link wagon kits.? The wheel tread is thinner but a re-gauged pair fitted to a skip chassis seems to go through my track okay (although I have not tried shunting under power yet – still working on the scenery). ? The pair I have run true and didn’t take too much effort to push out on the axle. ? My main reason for looking into these is because I need a source of wheels to go into a diesel chassis designed for 2mm diameter axles, but I can sleeve the 1.5mm axles through the bearings and gear. ? They should also be okay for the front bogie on my WDLR Baldwin project. ? I have to admit that I have struggled with the KB Scale loco wheels as I don’t have a wheel press and I am too ham fisted to get them to go on true or concentric, so an apparently fool-proof alternative is very welcome. ? Dundas Models also do 9mm wheels to 12mm gauge, which again opens up more possibilities. ? Cheers, ? Robin ? |
Re: Grandt Line closing
That's a shame.
I've bought a number of windows and doors from them in the past. Slightly out of scale for the UK I know (1:43.5 vs 1:48), but it makes no real noticeable difference and their range is/was extensive. I've also used LCut Creative's range of laser cut products () and they're very good, although they have a smaller range. Tony. |
