Re: Resources to distribute for Scouts and Leaders

I am the Ohio Section Youth Coordinator and we are publicizing event in out state newsletter.

The resources would be good to print out and laminate to have at operating locations. Visiting scouts can scan QR codes to take home information on Amateur Radio with no need of worrying about paper handouts.

Re: Resources to distribute for Scouts and Leaders

Sounds like you're in the correct place.? We are the ham radio operation at the WSJ.? Are you looking for some sort of scheduled contact?? If you get the Voacap data between your location and ours, we can work out details.? We're obviously not on the ground yet, not are antennas in the air, but give us until the end of the week and that will change. ?

Re: Anytone 868 SBR WSJ DMR Code Plug

Oh, I agree, D*Star is a much more ham friendly system and it is my preference too.? But DMR has really taken off, especially with hams under 30 and repeater builders.??

The first group seems to be attracted by the muh lower cost.? Getting into D*Stat is still going to run more than $200?unless you can get a deal on a used D*Star transceiver.? You can get into DMR for under $100,?although I was warned to avoid some of the lowest cost options.??

The second group falls into it's own two categories.? There are the ones that have experience in commercial communications systems, not unlike the hams that created the repeater boom in the 80s & 90s.? They'll use some pretty high end commercial gear and often can get tower access through their business connections.? Then there are the makers, those that want to build their own repeater from a Raspberry?Pi, Arduino, their own custom boards, etc.? While I think that the MMDVM repeaters could also do D*Star, I haven't really seen it done beyond personal hot spots.

For those reasons, I have decided to pick up DMR in addition to D*Star.??

Mainly our operations will focus on HF, Satellite, D-Star, and Echolink. There are members bringing DMR gear to do stuff with as time permits, however it will not be a focus of the operation.

What is OM Scouts? Which are leaders regularly registered in a scout association and who have a call sign (no simple OM)

What time on the 10th July? Because from then on we will miss 12 days at the beginning of the jamboree and we must arrive prepared

Re: LOOKING FOR TEST QSO FROM WEST VIRGINIA

Just had message from our licence holder that our special call during the period of the WSJ will be GB0FFS.
We are located in IO86 square at Fordell Firs, a Scout Adventures campsite near Dunfermline in Fife, Scotland.

Re: SCOTTISH SCOUT PARTICIPATION IN WSJ

The KARS group at the Fordell Firs Scottish Scout HQ campsite will be using special call GB0FFS for the duration of the WSJ. We plan to operate from GM during the "opening hours" at WSJ and, hopefully, after hours as well, probably on 7 MHz. We plan to use? IC7300 + ACOM 1000 to 3 ele yagi for 20.15, 10 metres and a phased pair of delta loops for 40 metres beaming at West Virginia. We should also manage 80 m at night usinhg a dipole.
Our shack is being refurbished and we now have an access ramp, kitchen and bathroom. So should provide some comfort for visitors and operators. All we need is good conditions for HF propagation!!
Leave a message on this blog if you'd like to try for a QSO - as well as WSJ we hope to be in a position to work other Scout? stations in Canada, USA and Mexico. It would be good to hear from you!
And, of course, from Scout stations anywhere else in the world - we cannot guarantee QSOs but we shall try!!
