This New Group Is Live 2
Thanks to Mario, this new group is now the replacement for the Yahoo n2adr-sdr group. Please start posting all new messages here. There may be a few rough spots while I figure things out. It seems that the first message from a new user must be approved. I will work on getting all the settings correct. Jim N2ADR

Old Messages from Yahoo Groups 6
This is in reply to Mario, who has gotten this new group started. Thanks Mario! I am not convinced that old messages from Yahoo need to be preserved, but I also have no objection to it. If you can make an HTML archive and upload it to files, that would be great. I can also host on james.ahlstrom.name, but it makes more sense to host here. Just let me know what you want me to do. Simple IQ Quisk? 3
Hi, As a relatively new person to SDR, I have a working SDR front end. It has a Si5351 and I & Q outputs.I would like to interface to a Raspberry Pi3 or a (if possible) a STM32 demo board. I'm assuming that a version of Quisk can be edited to work? For starters, I would just like to decode the I & Q signals.. Can you point me in the right direction? Thanks, Jim W0CHL

Audio problem with Quisk build 4.1.46 11
Hi chaps I've got a problem with build 46. My rig is the G7LHS SDR which appears as a USB audio device under windows. With build 46 Quisk tells me “DirectSound play device G7LHS ADT V1 not found” If I revert to 45 it works fine. Roll forward to 46, no audio. Anyone else had any similar effects? James notes some changes to the directX C code but can't see any problems. Reentering the sound device name (or truncating it) makes no difference Regards Dave G8KBB

Quisk on Python3 13
Hello Jim, So far Quisk is going well using Python3. There are a couple of trivial bugs in that when Quisk starts it is in Audio mode and when switching to another band it does not display the last used frequency. It also defaults to 48 Ksps rather than what was last used. It is reading the settings in the quisk_conf.py as I have custom screen colours which load OK and also reads the quisk_settings.json file and the quisk_favorites.txt files. Another interesting thing is that running quisk-4.1.45 with Python 2.7, people I spoke to said that there was a faint echo on my signal which I put down to RF getting into my microphone (I have had that before and fixed it with common mode chokes) but running on Python 3.6 they tell me it has completely gone away. So far a very positive experience and there is nothing to make me want to revert to Python 2 73, Graeme ZL2APV

Quisk Version 4.1.48 November 2019 8
I fixed some more problems with the Python3 version of Quisk. I added support for reading and writing the EEPROM in the HermesLite. Reading the EEPROM requires code version 68 or newer. The EEPROM settings are on the radio Hardware screen. Jim N2ADR

Power Calibration Table 3
Hi, Is there a way to export an existing power meter calibration table to another computer/ Quisk installation ? I tried to copy mine from one json-file to another but succeeded only in messing up the QUISK setup. Obviously then json-file with a calibration table inserted was somehow corrupted. To clarify, I did this from WIN10-system into Linux Mint 19.2 - system. 73 de Heikki (OH2LZI)

WSJT-X not connecting to Quisk via hamlib 2
I've had this problem now for a few releases. I don't update on a regular basis, so I don't know exactly when it started. I am using Quisk with fldigi and wsjt-x on a nanoPi running Linux. This is with the 'old' Python 2.7 environment. With a fresh install of Quisk, I cannot make wsjt-x connect via CAT/hamlib to Quisk. I always have to change one line in the Python sources - to get hamlib to work, I have to change the following line: self.hamlib_socket.listen(0) # listen for TCP connections from multiple clients I need to change the '0' to '10' (or anything non-zero), then wsjt-x will connect. Am I the only one with this problem? On a different subject, I also cannot see the SWR value displayed (I assume this is due to the screen resolution on my LCD display). I only see part of the first digit. To remedy that, I remove the 'SWR' from the string that's being displayed when there is an actual value. When nothing is there to display, it still reads 'SWR --', so I know what kind of value to expect in that field :) I am not familiar with how the GUI toolkit works. Is there a way to automatically size the content to the size of the field? Thanks, Karl Heinz - K5KHK

Quisk 4.1.49
Hi, have no audio in Quisk. In config it states, direct sound play device name Speakers (USB PNP sound device) not found. Under device both mic and phones are listed correctly. Strange , because I have had sound up until I added memory. However , at present I do have sound in both Spark and HPSDR. Please help Gil K8EAG

Quisk Version 4.1.50 November 2019 20
Thanks to Martin Schaller for fixing a bug in the SoftRock Tx sound level. I fixed a bug in the HermesLite gateware program button traceback. This Quisk provides pre-built binaries for the Windows Python3 versions. There are now four Windows versions: Python2 and Python3, each for either 32 or 64-bit Python. If you have a recent Python3, just run your Python3 and use pip to install Quisk. Pip will detect the version of Python you are using, and will install the correct version of Quisk. If you want to try Python3, install the latest 64-bit version. The installation instructions are here: http://james.ahlstrom.name/quisk/docs.html#Installation If you are running Windows you can just do a regular Quisk upgrade and everything should just work. If you want to switch to Python3, first decide if you want to have both Python2 and Python3 on your machine. If so, you need to install Quisk on both. And read the Python documentation for the Python Launcher "py". Your Python versions are available as py -2 and py -3. The Python3 versions are new and I would appreciate it if you could test them. Requesy to add connect/disconnect or start/stop button to UI 10
Hello Jim, I am using QUISK with the redpitaya as an SDR transceiver but also my rf- lab to generate test signals and/or make rf measurements in reception mode. As any test environment/set-up it changes often depending on what I want to measure and for this reason it is not unusual that QUISK " temporarily loses" the connection to the red-pitaya (for instance if I reboot the redpitaya or if I temporarily disconnect the Ethernet cable). At the moment when this happens, I have to quit QUISK and restart it (I launch QUISK from the terminal) then re-select the right radio ( I have 3 redpitaya). It would be faster and more convenient for me if we could have a simple CONNECT / DISCONNECT button in the UI (or START/STOP but the idea is the same) so I can click on that button to reconnect QUISK to the RP after it has lost connection instead of having to re-start QUISK). Please note LinHPSDR, PowerSDR , SparkSDR and SDRAngel all have this facility and it would be nice to have it for QUISK too ( if is feasible to implement it with the QUISK concept/architecture). Many Thanks Regards Peter PS: any news on the support of SoapySDR in TX mode ?

How do I alter the frequency range on the graph and waterfall displays. 3
I am sure there is a simple way to do this, but so far I have not found it. In using the SDRPlay and RTL-SDR hardware through the Soapy interface how do I change the waterfall and graph to display more than 220Khz. I have tried the various options in the "Radio" configure screen with no luck Mike N8OOU.

Two simultaneous radios with QUISK ? 4
Hi group, Just setting up my Hermes-Lite V2 build 8. I do not have the "official" cabinet but using an old box which originally contained Softrock SDR (both RX and TX). I have removed all TX parts except the LPF bank but I am considering to leave the Softrock RX as it is and install HL2 aside. My question: Is it possible/feasible to have two instances of QUISK simultaneously, one for HL2 and another for Softrock RX ?Another possibility would be to run Softrock with other SW like HDSDR. Anyways, I would like to have a completely independent monitoring receiver which I have been missing ever since I started to use transceivers instead of a separate RX and TX. 73 de Heikki (OH2LZI)

Quisk Version 4.1.51 November 2019 18
I fixed a bug in the "small screen" code when using the new wx version 4. Thanks to Martin Schaller for pointing out that underflows from the Soapy sample source should not count as errors. This version fixes the Linux installation errors "ImportError: No module named _quisk". It also provides a way to run either Python2 or Python3 quisk when both are installed. To do that use "python2 -m quisk" or "python3 -m quisk". The new installation instructions are here: http://james.ahlstrom.name/quisk/docs.html#Installation Jim N2ADR
