I'll always put in a word for Fedora, but full disclosure, I'm a Fedora packager and maintain most of the Ham Radio applications. Of course that also makes it easy to find me if you have a problem.

o/ Also a Fedora maintainer and ham, here.

The ham-related space on Fedora is pretty decent, and I've been working on packaging other things as I find them (pretty rare). Lots of SDR utilties already there, though it can always be improved. If you find something you can't get in Fedora, I'd be happy to poke at it for ya. There's already gnuradio, hamlib, rtl stuff, ax.25 stuff, and more.

I'm very new to ham radio (just a couple of weeks in, trying to learn everything I can) but not exactly new to Fedora, and found this thread while exploring what software I can install for various digital modes and control. Is it trivially easy to list the ham radio packages you so kindly maintain in Fedora?

Hi Richard

I also had some TX problems with 2.2.13 such that I returned to 2.2.12.04. I don't however remember the detailed reason, maybe my bi-directional modem syncing. It resolved with 2.2.14.

A new config file is always a good test too. eg close flamp, rename ~/.nbems/FLAMP/FLAMP.prefs to something else. Restart flamp and just plug in your callsign before doing some tests with the default settings.

Hope this is the right place to post this request.? I use hamlib in a seperate computer that just manage my transceiver and rotator with Hamlib.? Im using Qlog as my main logging programs, but I would love to use flrig as a virtual radio display/control.? But would not like to change hamlib been the manager/contoller of the radio.? Would it be possible to add that capability to flrig? to use hamlib as server over the network?? I know hamlib can connect to flrig, but havent found anything on the internet to the way I want...

Hello,

It sounds like the Ubuntu upgrade also has a later version of MySQL, and the newer version no longer has a dependency that fldigi is looking for.?

You could try installing an older version of MySQL from the same time frame as fldigi, unless the fldigi docs plainly state why version of MySQL it is looking for.?

You could try running it from a console and seeing what error messages
you see when you start winkeyer, might give you a clue.

Otherwise, if you are using Linux, is to run it under gdb and see if
you can get a backtrace to show the function calls up to the point
where it fell over.

If you're not familiar with these steps then we can probably talk you

Robin.

In a command line session, (ctl alt T)

sudo adduser $USER dialout

You will be asked for your password, it will then either add you (the logged in user) to the dialout group, or tell if you are already a member.

Like this....
dave@hp-compaq-sfdt:~/3rdParty/3500A firmware$ sudo adduser $USER dialout
[sudo] password for dave:
adduser: The user `dave' is already a member of `dialout'.
Either way, Job done.

Then, still in that command line session.

dmesg -wH

(A lot of 'stuff' will fly up the screen and stop....)

Then plug in the offending lead, and you should see what the OS identifies and enumerates it as.
such, and display this sort of info.? I don't know for sure, but you may need it connected to the
radio, and the radio powered ON, before you plug it into the computer.

But you should see this sort of info appear...
(There may be spurious other messages, especially if you PC/Laptop is using WiFi.)
[Oct20 11:20] usb 1-1.5.4: new full-speed USB device number 22 using ehci-pci
[ +0.109452] usb 1-1.5.4: New USB device found, idVendor=067b, idProduct=2303, bcdDevice= 4.00

[ +0.001539] usb 1-1.5.4: pl2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB7
It is 'ttyUSB7' that you tell Chirp about, in this case.? (Your case it will likely be a different device...)

If you see red messages, that generally is because the OS can't identify it correctly, or cant find a kernel driver to use for it.
Or sometimes a hardware fault with an otherwise good device.

Hope something helps.

The commend 'id' will list your user id number, the groups you belong to, and other se_linux stuff. I usually just edit /etc/group, then log out and back in again. Another useful command is 'lsusb' which will list all the USB devices it sees. Do one before plugging in your cable, and another after and see what was added.
