It sounds like the Ubuntu upgrade also has a later version of MySQL, and the newer version no longer has a dependency that fldigi is looking for.?
You could try installing an older version of MySQL from the same time frame as fldigi, unless the fldigi docs plainly state why version of MySQL it is looking for.?
