To access the serial port? you must be a member of the dialout group.

dave@tk7:~$ groups
dave adm dialout fax cdrom floppy tape sudo audio dip video plugdev lpadmin netdev scanner sambashare

You can assign yourself to the dialout group using the Cinnamon user interface, or from a command line terminal on Ubuntu:

Add yourself to the dialout group

??? Open Terminal.
??? Enter the following command, replacing <username> with the name of your account. sudo usermod -a -G dialout <username>
??? Restart your computer for the changes to take effect.

Re: No S/SWR/Power Meter on Ten Tec 550 Pegasus

When I view the trace log, I see flrig sending a "get smeter" command every second, but have displayed S-meter on the radio. When I press the "Tune" button, I also see a "get power out", but no display on the meter.

Re: flrig Transceiver Bandwidth - Can't Scroll

Sorry, I erroneously reported that I see this issue in flrig 2.0.0. This version does appear to scroll correctly, but occasionally will show the wrong filter bandwidth.

Re: Where to get schooled on Linux desktop managers, compositors, UI interfaces??

Try out different ones to find the one that works for you. Problems are solved by doing internet searches, asking ChatGPT, or just messing around with it and learning from it.

Debian is my choice at home, I run MATE on lower end systems and/or where I dont want or need eyecandy, or the kitchen sink load of apps, and Cinnamon where I want something that looks nice, and has a good range of stuff already installed.

flrig Transceiver Bandwidth - Can't Scroll

Hi all,

Have experienced an issue with my Ten Tec 550 Pegasus and flrig, where I cannot select a transceiver filter bandwidth because the scroll feature automatically resets to the top of the selections when I attempt to scroll down. Upon selection of a bandwidth and closing the selection dropdown menu, the selected filter shows that it has switched back to 300hz, but the radio still sounds as if the selected filter bandwidth is correct, just not indicating correctly. This seems to only occur in USB, LSB, and CW modes, I can still correctly set the filter bandwidth in AM mode without the scrolling issue. As this is difficult to describe, I¡¯ve attached a screencast of the problem.

This is on flrig 2.0.0, 2.0.05, and 2.0.05.85 on MacOS 15.2 and Fedora Linux 41 x86_64.

Happy to help however I can to solve this.

Very respectfully,
Geoff Marr

Re: No S/SWR/Power Meter on Ten Tec 550 Pegasus

Just adding that I've tried the above listed versions of flrig on MacOS 15.2, latest Raspbian with a 6.6 kernel, and Fedora 41 respectively.

No S/SWR/Power Meter on Ten Tec 550 Pegasus

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi all,

Thanks for all the work you do on the fl-suite of software.

Wanted to share an issue I¡¯m having with flrig and the Ten Ten 550 Pegasus transceiver. I can connect and operate the radio just fine through a USB-to-serial adapter properly configured from flrig, minus the S meter, SWR meter, and power meter. I have tried versions?2.0.05 and 2.0.0 on Mac, as well as versions 1.4.7, 2.0.0, and 2.0.05 on Fedora Linux and Raspbian, to no avail. None show the any indication of the meter.

I¡¯m happy to help troubleshoot further, just don¡¯t know what would be helpful right now. Any help here would be great!

Very respectfully,

You should be able to change the LPM setting during reception.

Please test and report results.

"Yes, for Kyodo one needs 576/60. Fldigi removed the line setting from its interface at some point, quite a long time ?ago. What I did, was that I created a copy of Fldigi source code and changed hardcoded 120 to 60. So for Kyodo decoding I would simply run a second altered Fldigi.

I think the best course of action is to permit changing the combination of all those parameter as it was before, also as it is described in the wefax standard in the PDF i linked before - I will do it myself but I'm not a skilled programmer anymore (I was a programmer in the late '90 :) )

Is there some way to get back those settings for?WeFax? I think now it's unusable for KYODO NEWS decoding.?

[OT] Re: MS apps under Ubuntu WINE

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Re Zoom.

A group of 4 of us here use it regularly, they on Windows or various phones, me generally on Linux (LMDE 6 now) and no issues at all (other than me forgetting just what controls the audio/camera interface selection!)

In the past we've had as many as a 15 participants using a variety of computers tablets and phones, and all works very well.?? (Even when many of us were also playing Uno online at the same time, and thrashing the automatic Bot's into touch!)

I have a 100Mb LAN (Wired, not WiFi) and a 33/10Mb VDSL broadband service.

No issues with lag, stuttering or whatever.

DM is often independently streaming something at the same time too, to her phone or TV.

You may not find direct Linux equivalent tools to what you have had on Windows, but there are usually many choices of similar tools that can do the same job, it's just time to find and evaluate them.

Libre Office is genuinely good, and very compatible with MS Office in most things.? Just make sure you get as late a release as you can.? Many distro's bundle it, but not always the latest proven release.

If Ubuntu doesn't cut it for you, look at Linux Mint.? More or less specifically created to make the transition from Windows relatively easy.

All the best.

Dave G0WBX.? Who finally moved to Linux full time, after the great Windows 10 "Push Download" that bricked my then Win7 machine!

I have not regretted moving at all.

Re: Where to get schooled on Linux desktop managers, compositors, UI interfaces??

Well, simply... software component that combines visual elements, like windows, graphics, and text, into a single image on a screen. X11 is the old compositor and Wayland is the new Linux standard. So its handling the on screen display of things.

The Desktop Environment (DE) is graphical user interface (GUI) elements such as icons, toolbars, wallpapers, and desktop widgets, i.e. its the GUI. Some of these ahve built in compositors.

I'm a KDE guy so in OpenSuse Tumbleweed I am at KDE Plasma 6 (the DE) and Wayland (the compositor).

I don't know what the Bookworm versions of these pieces are but from what I was able to see it may be behind the curve with the current leading edge of where the current versions of some of these apps are at. I know a year ago (is Bookworm that far behind compared to Tumbleweed, I don't know?) Wayland was pretty flaky.

So start with the DE. What is your preferred DE and why? (Because Debian/Ubuntu uses it is not the best answer ;) Decide on the DE and then the compositor will fall into place. Wayland is the future in compositors for Linux and it's solid on Tumbleweed, but this is with the latest versions of all of these components. The old X11 compositor is going away.

Conky is not all that Wayland friendly I hear. I still love Gkrellm and use that. This might shed some light on Conky and give you some ideas:

But the fix might be up to the Conky devels or be using a later version (latest) of Conky. What version is that you are using and on what DE and what compositor?

Let us know if you have questions...

Steve,

While I can't answer all of you questions, being a user of Kubuntu, and not a developer, programmer, etc, the names you mention, Gnome, LXQT, etc., are all different desktop environments.? I'll put a link at the bottom of this email to a page that details them a bit.? Each is aimed at different audiences, and have varied capabilities.? Some are meant for systems with lower resources, such as Xubuntu.? Some software I have downloaded over the years has been meant for say, Gnome desktop, but has not worked with my go-to KDE desktop.? I don't know if that is still true, and have not had that issue occur here recently.?

The page I linked to includes these desktop environments and a description of each.? Each run on the Ubuntu platform.? So, I can change my desktop to each of these if I choose, making the desktops selectable at login.? The desktop variations give me the freedom to do this if I wish or need to for some reason.?
