Re: Lagoon 500 window bedding

Haven't done my 500 yet, but there were two 500s at a charter base in Belize that I passed through last year, and the guy there told me they reseal bridge deck windows every two years :(?

Not looking forward to that, but I can second DOW 795. Used on my last sloop with similar caulked in windows, never leaked again, lasted 7 years+. Ditto on remove as much of old as possible and tape, and check expiration dates. 795 nasty, but works.

Re: Does anyone know a source for the timer relay in the showers on L450 other than Lagoon

Hi, I have the Schieber style on my 500, CNB sells for a bunch of money, but are available through Marinebeam.com for $90

However, I've sourced two possibilities:

First is adjustable relay by Bosch, Summit Auto has for $30ish. Only problem is it's delay off only, but they are just like kind you have:

These infinite cycle loop relays are available from china, and are both on and off delay programmable, not sealed, but so cheap I think I could live with it:

Haven't used either yet, but I ordered a couple of the china ones. Other stuff I found was 5amps or less, which I think it marginal on a shower pump.

:)

The timer relay's (3 of them on my owners model) turn on the shower sump pump. ?I have replaced them in the past with parts from Lagoon which are expensive, 56 Euro and take time to get. ?Anyone know a US source that can ship direct, I have spent several hours on-line searching and can't find a source ? ?Lagoon Part # 080156, mfr ETA # TR2--2E5-1-15S. ?In the past I have repaired them but this time the failure is not in the armature or the contacts, it engages but won't ?turn on the pump. ?I have swapped a working one in and the pump turns on so I suspect it's the timer chip or another electronic component.

Re: Quick windlass question

I had the same issue, turns out the magnet had come lose remaining glued it in its hole cleaned the sensor and she is working fine. Ordered a new sensor for a back up. Also painted my chain on last hual out but paint didn't last long went to zip ties.. for that time when counter decides to malfunction?

The counter works via a magnet on the underside of the gypsy that passes over a small sensor (with 2 or 3 wires) embedded in the base. Each rotation counts as a specific length of chain based on the size. Both the magnet (rusts) and sensor (or wires) fail over time in the salty wet environment. You’ll need to check both and the Quick website should have manuals with diagrams showing exactly where.?

?

In the meantime, you can set the handheld unit to “windlass mode” (I think...) which disables the counter function and will allow you to raise and lower completely without having to press enter/reset every 4 seconds. (Or you can release the up/down button every 3 seconds to fool the sensor.)

?

Worth noting, I replaced both the magnet and sensor and it did not solve my problem... but the new sensor was not new... just one on board that came with the boat...

The design of the 421 davit has a bend rather than straight which makes it easier to mount solar panels. It won't stop the failure like you had if overloaded but does provide a cover over the dingy which avoids excessive rain coming in to the dingy.Image

Re: Lagoon 440 Davit failure

Great, comments. I’ve found a custom shop that’s cutting out the bad adding a inner sleeve to connect the two pieces and then adding an outer sleeve to both Davis for added strength.

i like the composite S bracket the best unfortunately not available.

thanks for your comments much appreciated.

Re: Quick windlass question

Until you find a fix for the counter you can get by with painted marks in 50 foot incriments on your anchor chain. Easy to do and hard to break.

Re: Mainsail downhaul, L380, NOT sq top

开云体育

I saw a pretty smart solution on a L400 that would work for any model and was completely removable when not needed. It was made of 1/8 or 3/16 spectra and one of those low friction rings. The ring was held in place at the bottom of the mast with a strop around the mast (strop length just slightly bigger than the diameter of the mast with an eye splice in each end) and a soft shackle connecting the strop eyes to the ring. The downhaul spectra line then runs from the helm to the ring and then to the top of the sail (either to the halyard shackle or its own soft shackle).

He said it works great... easy, cheap, and no extra holes drilled into your boat.?

Am specifically interested in L380 owners on the how you led it back to the cockpit as the 380 mast step is in a 'well' and not flush with the deck. So putting a turning block at the base doesn't work well, one would have to be put into the mast itself. Complicates things. Thanks.

Re: Onan genset MDKBN 11Kw

Hi Steve

Two years ago, I had to replace the starter motor on my 16.5kVA Onan generator, model MDKBR, and it was very difficult to remove the faulty starter motor, owing to access to the bolts being almost impossible. Who designs these things?

To begin with, it looked like it would be necessary to lift the whole unit from the casing to allow access from below. In the event, I jfinally succeeded without doing this. The top bolt wasn't so difficult, as access is easier. I had to grind down an 18mm ring spanner (wrench) on one side, so it sat properly on to the bolt head, as there was insufficient space between the starter housing and the bolt head. There was no access for an open-ended spanner (wrench) without removing the engine. Once loosened a little, I was able to use a socket with various adaptors to undo it.

The bottom bolt was an even greater challenge. I could get an 18mm ring spanner (wrench) to sit half on the bolt head, but couldn't free the bolt by forcing the spanner (wrench) or hitting it with a hammer, as it would just jump off and risk rounding the bolt head.

I finally succeeded by purchasing , which gave me sufficient purchase and leverage (despite not sitting properly and there being only about 5mm of travel) to loosen the bolt a fraction of a turn. In this way, a fraction of a turn at a time, I was able to painstakingly remove the bolt.?

I bought the replacement starter from eBay for a not unreasonable price of 120GBP (160USD).

By the way, my top tip regarding Onan generators is use Jabsco impellers rather than Onan. The Onan impellers repeatedly failed after less than 100 hours. I fitted a Jabsco impeller 3,000 hours ago and it's still going strong. My other tip is to fit a second oil pressure sensor (there is provision for two) and attach an oil pressure gauge to the second one, then if the main one fails, as mine did, you simply swap the cables and you are back in business. One more tip: don't service your generator in the middle of an ocean passage and, if you do, make very sure you put the the seal for the Volvo Penta fuel filter back on the right way up!

Regards

Chris

Gets you to next large port fix: cut out broken part and sleeve inside or outside with whatever you find?

If you find a good composites shop, think about replacing both with custom S shapes to raise dinghy up? Not sure how they are anchored in the aft beam, so don’t know if this would need to be strengthened as well.

Permanent fix: build rack from hull to hull, about as high as existing cockpit cover. Can also support solar array. Be cautious about added weight and maintaining trim.?
