Re: Lagoon 380 S2 Replacement Sails
Frank, the sailwarehouse.com has 5 new mainsails with alittle modifications will fit your boat made by pro/stock. Just FYI. I purchased a new mainsail for my boat and modified it for alot less. I believe they were for a 38 Robert Caine boat. They are full batten. I do recommend changing your batten holders to adjust from the luff instead of leach. This allows a smoother leach that won't hang up on lazy jacks. The sails that I was looking at were the 45'luff and 16'foot. I have found several catamaran sails for new in the $1500 price range at other sail lofts. I found my mainsail for $500 and it was new with a dramatic full roach. Alterations were around $500. For some reason there are alot of new catamaran sails available in that size. A friend of mine spent $5800 for a new mainsail. He is kicking himself right now.? Varnish 380 s2 premium tables (2008)
#380s2
Hi?
does anyone know what kind of varnish has been used on the 380 S2 (2008) tables? We want to renew the varnish, and the expert at the chandlery said that a 2 component varnish would be better, but will not stick on a 1 component previous varnish (and we obviously don't want to sand down everything). So, 1 component varnish would do the job, but 2 component will last much longer (but only stick properly if the stuff that's already on also is a 2 component varnish).? Anybody knows? best regards, Martin (Pachamama, 380S2 hull 519, currently in Chaguaramas, Trinidad) |

Re: Lagoon 380 S2 Replacement Sails
Many thanks for the advice.
I am going for tri-radial cut on both sails. Square top main using the simple Lagoon system for controlling the top of the sail when raising and lowering. Now for materials: I am told by some that Challenge Warp Drive 8.11 is the best for sail shape and life. Others say it is far too light a material for a Lagoon 380 Catamaran. Others say?Contender CDX 7/9 is best. Others say?Contender CDX 9 (I do not understand the meaning of CDX 7/9. Is is 7 or 9?) Can anyone advise? |

Haul out capability on east cost for 2017 Lagoon 42
Has anyone else run into this problem on the east coast finding a marine service center that can haul out the new 42 with 25.5 beam?
I hauled out last year at St. Augustine Marine Center Florida as they have a crawler lift trailer to pull beamy cats with. ?I would like to get out of florida for insurance reasons but have not had any luck finding one using Waterway Guide online which has been very useful cruising. other search engines have not yielded any useful results. |

Re: Hatch bug screen
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýMarcus to the best of my knowledge there are no Sunbrella Hatch covers available. I had some made for our 410 and my wife has made a few that flew away. I¡¯ll mention I have several interior Lewmar screens for sale Jim, let me know what physical size you need. ? Steve in Solomons MD 410 S2 E ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Marcus via Groups.Io ? ok,? now how about hatch covers for a L 400.? thanks... |

Re: Hatch bug screen
Hi Jim, I know there were a couple of iterations. On our 2007 380 S2 #411, most of out hatches have 8 rotating tabs to?hold the screens in place. Size 30(Lewmar part #396309937) covers the 4 cabin overhead hatches and the 2 in the galley. We ordered ours from Defender.com: SP396309937 - LEWM Hatch Screen SZ 30 - $66.99 but I can't seem to find them on their website anymore. They are willing to special order from Lewmar. Even better, Mauri Pro out of St. Pete has them for $56.70:??We ordered some halyards from them and were very pleased. Hope this helps. - Brett

Re: Lagoon 380 S2 Replacement Sails
Most material have directional strength, much like Dacron/woven family. By using radialcut to better orient the cloth, in small panels, along the best loadpath for the sail, a lighter material can be used to?achieve the same strength found in the simpler crosscut design. If the same crosscut material is used for a radialcut, with no weight improvement, it will be stronger/last longer under the same wear conditions.
Radial is more work and has more waste which make up for the extra cost. ¡ª- David |

Re: Lagoon 380 S2 Replacement Sails
Cross cut vs radial cut has to do with the properties of the material. Dacron should always be cross cut since it stretches more in one direction vs the other. Radial cut Dacron does not hold it's shape well. Inexpensive sails, unless otherwise stated, are made with cheap Dacron which simply doesn't last as long as the more expensive Dacron. The main difference lies in how tight the weave is. The good stuff has a dense, tight weave and less resin is needed to create stiffness. Cheap Dacron has a looser weave which means more resin is needed to fill in the gaps. Everytime you flog your sails you are breaking down the resin. Less resin in the material means the Dacron holds it's shape more from the weave and less from the resin making it last a lot longer, even as the resin breaks down.? In summary: cheap Dacron will not last as long. Radial cut Dacron is done for asthetics with disregard for the properties of the material.? Independent sail lofts, like Mack Sails in FL, almost all use Challenge brand sailcloth (Dacron) and like anything else you might buy, there are different grades of Dacron with different pricing available for them to use. Generic premade sails will almost never use the good stuff.? Rick s/v Mai Tai L37 TPI On Feb 25, 2019 7:55 PM, David Godin <godind@...> wrote: Hi Frank, |

Re: Lagoon 380 S2 Replacement Sails
Hi Frank,
I¡¯m no sailmaker and others will have different opinions obviously . I guess budget is the key factor. Dacron is a proven material, commonly available and easy to repaire with needle and thread. Other materials are lighter and/or stretch less, some are molded into perfect shape, etc, but have trades offs such as UV, chaffing and flogging resistance.?If budget is not unlimited, I¡¯d start with Dacron and mods in this order: 1- radial cut headsail. It will hold its shape longer 2- crosscut square top main. More sail area in light winds 3- radial square top main 4- other materials lets see what others ?i hope this helps... David |
