7
https://www.italiandualcitizenship.net/italian-citizenship-through-parents-grandparents-great-grandparents/ I've been hearing from my friends of Irish descent about getting their Irish citizenship and decided to look into getting Italian citizenship. The link above shows what documents you would need and I was wondering if anyone might know if any of these documents are in a box in the attic or something? just planning my future health care plans...lol Love Randy Documents You Will Need to Obtain Italian Citizenship You will need to complete an application form for Italian citizenship but there are also documents which need to be obtained for your parent, grandparent or great grandparent. Mangled spellings
2
Hi all. I had a pleasant conversation last week with a customer service representative. Yes! Situation was handled professionally and with humor. The routine name, address, phone # and email info was collected. A couple of hours later I received the receipt email. Long story short, I was never asked to spell my last name. Now I¡¯m no English major or teacher so when I reviewed the receipt I was delighted to see what I would determine to be a phonetically correct spelling of my name. RUGIRI. I¡¯m curious if any of you have seen mangled spellings that stuck with you? We could get into the wacky ways we¡¯ve heard others read it and try to pronounce our name. Textually that could be problematic, but fun to spell out. Apologies to all whose last name has never been Ruggieri even if you self identify as such... Let¡¯s see your stories. Aunt Ronnie's Parrot

some of us "younger" cousins have been remembering all kind of fond memories about our wonderful family. One question that we had was: What became of that darn parrot? Thanks Randy

A new perspective, a new love
10
Yesterday I had a very random thought. Archie, my grandpop, died when I was 8 and I had not much memory of my dad ever sharing any stories. Could be my memory facility in question. I decided to learn what I could. First I confirmed my personal suspicions with Rand. The I reached out to Aunt Elaine and then Paul Andriole. They were great. In fact, Paul ended thanking me for helping him come up with some very fun stories. I wish I had the tech know how to have done an oral history recording. So one thing leads to another, right? Elaine told me about the information she received from Lynn Sinclair. She¡¯s researched much Kenneth Square history and is involved with the historical society there. Who knew? Well I have to admit to learning a lot. I never knew Archie learned how to read and write English starting at age 15 at the library. Wow! I do remember Aunt Lonie working at BT library when I was a kid. Got shushed way too often. Archie¡¯s accomplishments hit a strong chord with me. I spent 16 years volunteering as a trustee with our local library and two other library related boards of directors with no knowledge of granddads start. The conversation I¡¯d like to start with this is any and all of you is to read the following and see what strikes you. If you¡¯ve got additional memories, please share. I now know I owe him a great big thank you for so much. Merry Christmas, happy holidays and cheers to a much better 2021! Archie Ruggieri January 9, 1896 ¨C June 24, 1962 Kennett Square Businessman, Founder/Charter member of the Italian-American Club, and Founder/Charter Member of the Sons of Italy. Born in Sant¡¯Omero, Abruzzo, Italy. Arrived as an immigrant in Kennett Square in 1911 as the oldest child of his family. Learned English in the local library. He and his father Dominic supported the family as shoemakers and cobblers. 1920 ¨C He and his father bought 110 West State St. (now owned by Kennett Glass Co.). 1922 ¨C Founded the Mushroom Transportation Company. Director until 1930s. 1923 ¨C Built next to the 110 West St. property and extended it to 114 West State St. (plaque honoring him on The Mushroom Cap exterior). 1923 -1924 ¨C Bought a Victorian house at 405 South Union Street for his parents, his wife and six children, and various family members at different times. 1925 ¨C Became a naturalized U.S. Citizen. Built three stone houses on the south side of Cypress Street between Center and Union Streets. Dates undetermined. 1930 - Bought a bar/caf¨¦ at 117 West State Street called La Cantina (now Chantilly Blue). His wife Angelina made lunches there including spaghetti and meatballs. Archie operated the bar throughout the WWII years. 1947 ¨C Sold La Cantina and bought another bar at the corner of State Street and Mill Road. Clientele not so nice as the former. So many frequent fights would break out that a local policeman maintained security. The bar and land were bought by Peebles Department Store (or a grocery chain) and became the beginning of a new shopping area. Throughout this time he bought and sold several lots and properties, including three or four lots in the new housing complex near Cedarcroft, the former home of Bayard Taylor. 1954 ¨C Bought Wayside Market between Kennett Square and Toughkenamon. With his wife and family, he operated the general store featuring fresh mushrooms and produce bought in Philadelphia or from local farmers and orchardists. 1956 and 1958-1959 ¨C He and Erminio Bugliani made visits to Cuba to start a mushroom export business, but were unsuccessful because of the political situation there. The mushroom trade at Wayside Market was developed into a wholesale and brokerage enterprise by his son Dino Ruggieri. Wayside Market continued as a family business. 1962 ¨C Died on June 1 of poor health. The dog¡¯s dietary philosophy: ¡°If it falls on the ground, eat it. You can always throw it up later.¡± Dave Barry Steve Ruggieri 414-630-2558

Which uncle?
9
Was chatting with my favorite brother recently. He said something in passing that reminded me of a story dad used to tell about an uncle of his that neither Rand or I could remember whom it was. The story went that this guy only played the ponies from the racing forms in the daily paper. He¡¯d bet on a horse race and if he won, the $2.00 would go in his bank account. If the horse lost, he¡¯d take the bills out of one pocket and put it in the other pocket. Granted, the story may have been fiction, hell, the uncle may have been fiction. It could have been an ethics lesson on gambling. Who knows? If anyone can flesh out this random memory please share what you know. I still tell people the story when asked if I¡¯ve bought a lottery ticket for the millions. So even if it was just a story I figured it plays well as family lore... VOTE!!! Ruggieri for PA State Rep
6
Hi, all. Paul Andriole sent me a campaign card for Richard Ruggieri who is running for State Representative, District 13, in PA. He is the grandson of Dickie and Mary Ruggieri. www.ruggieripa13.com. Check it out. You¡¯ll like what you read about him. I am so delighted to see a tradition of running for office that my brothers, Dino and Mim, started. Paul said Chester County is mostly Democratic now - what a change from when I lived there. I emailed Richard and told him to get the Ruggieri army to work and vote for him. Also I sent a small donation. Hope everyone is healthy and ready to vote on November 3. Love, Elaine

Rosalie's china cabinet
6
Hello all. Things are good and boring here in Lancaster for Stephanie and I. Health is good, no 'rona, and our income wasn't impacted. We also managed to stay married through 10 weeks of contractors all over our house during the quarantine. New roof, siding, spouting, kitchen and laundry. The next project is our dining room and we no longer have room for our china cabinet (nor do we have any fine china to display - we're anti knick knacks). It belonged to Rosalie, then Joy , then me. I wanted to offer it to any family first before I give it to a Medigan. So Fay, Laura, nieces, nephews... Anyone? Cheers, Pete and Stephanie 7175571527 Pete's smartphone

Lonie and Eapen
4
Preface: I¡¯m not trying to start a political discussion and I¡¯m not trying to influence anyone to vote any which way! Ever since Joe Biden picked Kamala Harris I¡¯ve been thinking a lot about Aunt Lonie and Uncle Eapen and how thrilled they would be. Kamala¡¯s Mom is from the state adjacent (just north) to Eapen¡¯s state of Kerala. Her mom came over to study in the US in 1958 (the year of my birth - cuz everything is all about me lol). If my memory serves me right, Eapen came over in 1968 to study English. It served him well as went on to teach English to university students. I can only imagine how proud he would be right now and I¡¯d love to sit and listen to him express his happiness. I miss them both so much. Thanks Rand

Easter horror story
7
Tough intro huh? First, Happy Easter everyone. Ok, it was 1966 I think, we had a fire at 126 Ridge and were happily invited to move in with Aunt Millie for the duration of the renovation. I was in 6th grade at Kennett Elementary next to the jr-sr high school. Yea, we had to learn how to navigate a bus from Toughkenamon to the high school drop off. After walking it was challenging. Randy was in second grade. Easter at Millie¡¯s, Sally and Jacque we¡¯re also living there. Jacque, fill in if you were not about kindergarten age, memory is spotty. Anyway, Easter morning my brother and I came down to see a huge Easter basket(Jacque¡¯s). It was monstrous. In our awestruck speechlessness we got busted by our mom. She was so embarrassed, as guests, by our reaction to Jacque¡¯s basket that mom immediately ordered Randy and I to take our wonderful Easter goodies to the migrant workers living on the mushroom farm campus. All we succeeded in doing for them was rudely awaking these young men, living in barracks far from their loved ones on Easter, hoping to get some well deserved extra sleep. After waking them coming out their door seeing two quaking kids wanting to honor mom¡¯s orders to share, we dropped our baskets and ran. I¡¯ve no idea what they thought. This episode in our young lives may or may not explain certain relationships I and possibly Randy have towards family, religion, immigrants and who I see myself today. Sally, Jacque I¡¯m not sure if you were even aware of this episode in our lives, but rest assured, it was just one day. We were kids. We accepted, adapted and knew family and love are all important. Still, at that moment when those young men came busting out of their dorm yelling in Spanish was a pants wetting moment. Steve Ruggieri 414-630-2558 The grumpier you are, the more assholes you meet. Tippi Pesce
6
Tippi¡¯s father, Paul Pesce, was my mother¡¯s brother. So Tippi and I were first cousins. Her sister Joanie, Tippi and I were very close much like I was with my Ruggieri first cousins, Dorothy and Sally. Tippi and I called ourselves ¡°twin cousins¡± because we were born on the same day, same year. She jokingly always told people that I was 17 hours older! I am heartbroken over her death. Tippi and Donnie Carlino were high school sweethearts and were happily married for 44 years. It was NOT an abusive marriage. Joanie was married to Augie Baccheta for ? years. That was not a happy marriage but also not abusive as far as I know. She married Jack DePoulter and was very happy till his death a few years ago. Tippi will be buried tomorrow privately, of course. A memorial Mass will be held whenever possible. Blessed Easter to all.

Palm Sunday
8
Ciao, mia famiglia. No Palms on my door as in days of yore. Today and Easter Sunday next week bring back many wonderful memories. You wore last Easter¡¯s hat and clothes to church on Palm Sunday and on Easter Sunday all new bonnets, spring coats, and new shoes. In the dining room was a huge Kennett Kandy Kitchen, milk chocolate egg stuffed with their finest candy. Sunday dinner was ham, I guess, but Angie's homemade pasta was always the biggest hit. Family came to visit and talk - no phones to look at and at one point in my life, no phone at all. In contrast, today I went to a supermarket at 7 a..m., wearing a mask, sunglasses, and latex gloves. So covered up, I couldn¡¯t read my list. Then after coming home, spent the next hour disinfecting what I bought. Filled a sudsy sink with apples, oranges and lemons; even carrots! Wiped off with Clorox/water everything else I bought, touched in the car and outside the car, door knobs, etc. Dr. Fauci, the country¡¯s primary doctor, says it works and do it. So I am and I¡¯m sure you are too. I hope you¡¯re all healthy and happy even wearing masks, bandanas bandito-style, and latex gloves with Clorox wipes and Purell handy. Maybe you even have enough TP shelved for the next week or so. Love to all, Elaine

Kennett Township fraud goes around the world
5
The Inquirer article (linked below in case you didn¡¯t read it) came to me out here in flyover country via an old friend and shirttail cousin, John Gatti, who is now living in Cuenca, Ecuador. Does that make you feel under a spotlight? I had a couple of thoughts reading the piece. Having left my home town close to 50 years ago with many memories, both positive and not so positive, I was trying to recall the boundaries of Kennett Township. Then I read the name of the Supervisor. Why did the idea of a Scudder Stevens from Waspville strike me as somethings don¡¯t change. Further on the article mentioned Leon Spencer. I¡¯ve got to ask, was he right that a board of supervisors from KT are all Democrats? How is that possible? And most importantly, when I read that Leon was a former mayor, the first thought was wow, good for him. However, my hazy memory is not helping me to recall why I instantly recalled his name but not why he is familiar to me. He was a few years ahead of me in school, but that¡¯s all I remember. Is there anyone in this group that can jog my brain to clear up this personal mystery? Oh, and by the way, Merry Christmas to all! Thanks. https://www.inquirer.com/news/lisa-moore-kennett-township-fraud-theft-32-million-20191218.html Steve Ruggieri 414-630-2558

Happy Thanksgiving 2019
2
Just wanted to wish everyone a happy and safe Thanksgiving. And please note below and share our family site far and wide (I think I captured all names from the family history that Aunt Lonie researched and drafted): Whether your last name is Snow, Aby, Miles, Tullo, McDevitt, DiDavide, Ely, Woolward, Blittersdorf, Miller, Stapley, Huber, Brown, Pappas, Hynes, Hackette, Deppen, Pratola, Bruni, Zeisloft, Baily, Coutts, Sunshine, Buel, DiProspero, Andriole, Pannell, Ferrara, Stier, or Ruggieri, you share common ancestors: Domenico Ruggieri and Rosina Rochetti. (See the wiki at the bottom of the left hand navigation for more history...a work in progress where many hands would make light work). Sally's update on the Millie family history gave me an idea. This new group has a wiki function and I've started to convert the family history doc into the wiki /g/lafamigliaruggieri/wiki/home I'm thinking that we can make this a place where we capture stories and help us stay as connected as we can in this hectic world. I think building out our own family wikipedia is a better approach than just uploading files. And maybe we could use this to answer questions that doctors ask like when they ask about your family's medical history of X? Maybe we could have a page where family members can share some history to help out someone down the road in the next generation or 2. Trying to make this group useful but I also understand need for privacy. Let me what you think! I know there are other ideas...like which of our family members served in the military and saved the world single handedly. lol Did you know that Uncle Arch went to the Naval Academy and was recognized as an All American Soccer player in 1950? And that my Dad (Mimi, Jerry, Domenic) said he won the Battle of the Buldge and his main goal was to take a piss in the Rhine river. He got about 30 yards from it before a German sniper shot him in both legs. Our family has served and we should honor that. If you have a moment, take a look at the work in progress. Also, let me know if you have questions on how to use this wiki to add and/or edit something. Love Cousin Randy and happy thanksgiving
