Artist Opportunity -- City of Palmdale
The City of Palmdale is accepting applications for stair murals to be installed at Pelona Vista Park. This exciting art initiative will transform the park’s two staircases leading to the north fields into visual expressions of the project’s themes of health, wellness, sportsmanship and community pride. With an all-inclusive budget of $10,500, the grant will cover all the necessary expenses, including the artist’s fee, paint supplies and equipment rentals. Included in the budget, the selected artist will receive a $450 stipend to create a color sketch or digital image of the proposed artwork to scale. Proposals must align with the project’s objectives, ensuring the artwork is family-friendly. As a result, Teatro Visión more than doubled its annual budget, programming, and audiences. She also offers grant writing and other non-profit consulting services to numerous community-focused arts nonprofits throughout the Bay Area and the state of California. Leigh is also a practicing theatrical designer whose work has been seen on stages throughout the Bay Area, Wisconsin, Colorado, New York City, and at the prestigious Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space and a cake artist who has appeared on multiple shows on the Food Network. She holds a BFA in Drama from Carnegie Mellon University and an MBA in Arts Administration and a PhD in Interdisciplinary Theater Studies from the University of Wisconsin – Madison. Led by THE OFFICE and implemented in partnership with Arts and Culture, this new opportunity will provide salaried employment for four artists for an 18-month term (June 1, 2025 - November 30, 2026) to support them in their artistic practice and in working collaboratively with community members and organizational partners to address local needs in Los Angeles County. Two artists will partner with local nonprofit organizations in areas recovering from the devastating 2025 wildfires, where they will focus on supporting and strengthening community identity, cultural preservation, and civic memory. The internship is an excellent introduction to facilitating relevance and meaning for specific audiences, especially alternative education youth, by tailoring museum exhibition content through gallery and classroom explorations. While these internships are intended for students from backgrounds underrepresented in museums and visual arts professions, eligible candidates from all backgrounds may be considered. Candidates shall have the opportunity to demonstrate their interest in museums and visual arts professions and how they might add diverse and underrepresented perspectives, which can include—among other things—socio-economic status, cultural background, physical or other disability, geographical origin, and/or any other life experiences. Position Summary The Director of Development works to advance the organization’s mission through relationship-building and communication efforts. This position strengthens relationships with donors, funders, partners and stakeholders while leading donor engagement and corporate support. Key responsibilities of this position include grant research and writing, event planning, Board management and stewardship of current members and donors. The Director of Development supervises one intern. Compensation & Benefits The compensation for this position is $85,000. Essential Position Responsibilities Build and strengthen relationships with donors, funders, partners and community stakeholders. Lead donor engagement efforts. Cultivate corporate relationships and grow corporate support. Plan and execute events and fundraising opportunities such as donor membership events, yearly fundraising campaign, Giving Tuesday, programmatic fundraisers. Assist with the grant process, including researching and identifying opportunities, writing and submitting grant proposals and tracking. Maintain and implement stewardship of current members and donors. Board committee meeting management including scheduling, invitations, reminders and agendas. Supervise the Development and Marketing Intern. Assist with the development of the organization’s marketing plan. Build positive relationships among staff, dancers, volunteers, funders and partners to foster high morale and ongoing commitment to the organization. Oversee implementation of membership program and membership recruitment Create opportunities to increase the visibility of the organization in Los Angeles through strategic partnerships and special initiatives. Cultivate press relationships and facilitate PR opportunities. Other responsibilities as assigned. Education and Experience At least 3 years of direct fundraising and communications experience required. Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Comfortable initiating and conducting donor visits and fundraising calls, with demonstrated success at securing donations. Qualifications Proficiency with Google Analytics, Google Suite, fundraising software, CRMs and online advertising. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships. Knowledgeable about the latest fundraising tactics and the ability to determine their effectiveness. Complete deliverables in established timeframes while maintaining flexibility. Excellent planning and organization skills with a strong attention to detail. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills. Availability to work weekends and evenings as needed.
