The San Pedro Waterfront Arts District has received a grant from the Port of Los Angeles Community Grant Program to create and install a 650 square foot artist designed crosswalk in front of the Maritime Museum at 6th and Harbor as a demonstration site. The proposed design must stay within the existing crosswalk area.?

Artists are invited to submit their qualifications, examples of their work and an illustrative concept sketch, to be painted and executed by a paving company. The theme of the proposed crosswalk design should include the following elements:
- History?of?San?Pedro?as?a maritime?port

Your?qualifications?will?be?evaluated?and?scored?by?a?Design?Advisory?Panel?of?the?San?Pedro?Waterfront?Arts District, based on the following:
- Artistic?Quality
- Technical?Ability
- Thematic?Expression?of?the?Crosswalk?themes
- Compliance?with?Crosswalk?design?specifications
SUBMISSION?REQUIREMENTS
Please?include?the?following?with?your?submission:
- Artist Statement ¨C brief description of your work as an artist, your interest and qualifications for this public art program, as well as your experiences and approach to this project
- Resume ¨C please send your current resume and include the artist team, if applicable.
- References ¨C name, address, email and phone number for 3 professional references or someone who can vouch for you.
- Images of at least 3 of past public art projects and/or a website highlighting your work. All image files must be in a PDF format and clearly labeled with your name, contact info and date.
- Sample Concept Sketch as a full color rendering of the proposed design in a PDF format.
FEE?SCHEDULE?AND?THE?WORK:
The Arts District will award 3 artists $250 for a detailed rendering of the proposed design.?
After a public selection process, the winning artist will receive $1500 for the use of the design, in a format acceptable to the paving company.
SUBMISSION?PROCESS:
- Provide all documents electronically in a PDF format, in an email addressed to?55lindagrimes@...
- Organize your submission materials in such a way to make it easy to follow and be read by those evaluating your work.
DEADLINE:
- All submissions are due on?Monday, April 7, 2025 by 5pm.
- The 3 finalists¡¯ designs will be selected by Friday, April 14, 2025, and will be used in social media campaigns for community voting and feedback.
- Community feedback/voting will conclude by Friday, May 9, 2025, and the selected artist will be paid $1500 in 2 installments, payable by invoice to the San Pedro Waterfront Arts District.
- Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.
- The winning artist will be expected to work with the paving company to implement their design on the crosswalk.
- Artist designed crosswalk to be completed and installed by the paving company by Monday, June 30, 2025.
