Our organization is currently working with public and private partners to develop LA Carnival on the Shaw, an economic development initiative along portions of Crenshaw Blvd. in South LA.?

A major part of the project is to engage artists to work with businesses along Crenshaw to bring creativity, art, entertainment and joy to their establishments to encourage more visitors to their businesses. We are now? hiring artists to begin working with the project to create ‘LA Carnival Vibe Spots’ along the parade route.? The parade route is along Crenshaw from Obama/Expo Metro Station to Leimert Park Metro Station, including Leimert Park Village itself.

Position Summary

The Director of Development works to advance the organization’s mission through relationship-building and communication efforts. This position strengthens relationships with donors, funders, partners and stakeholders while leading donor engagement and corporate support. Key responsibilities of this position include grant research and writing, event planning, Board management and stewardship of current members and donors. The Director of Development supervises one intern.?

The compensation for this position is $85,000. The Director of Development is eligible for the following benefits:?

Essential Position Responsibilities

• Build and strengthen relationships with donors, funders, partners and community stakeholders.

• Lead donor engagement efforts.?

• Cultivate corporate relationships and grow corporate support.

• Plan and execute events and fundraising opportunities such as donor membership events, yearly fundraising campaign, Giving Tuesday, programmatic fundraisers.

• Assist with the grant process, including researching and identifying opportunities, writing and submitting grant proposals and tracking.?

• Maintain and implement stewardship of current members and donors.

• Board committee meeting management including scheduling, invitations, reminders and agendas.?

• Supervise the Development and Marketing Intern.

• Assist with the development of the organization’s marketing plan.

• Build positive relationships among staff, dancers, volunteers, funders and partners to foster high morale and ongoing commitment to the organization.

• Oversee implementation of membership program and membership recruitment

• Create opportunities to increase the visibility of the organization in Los Angeles through strategic partnerships and special initiatives.

• Cultivate press relationships and facilitate PR opportunities.

• Other responsibilities as assigned.?

Education and Experience

• At least 3 years of direct fundraising and communications experience required.?

• Bachelor’s Degree preferred.

• Comfortable initiating and conducting donor visits and fundraising calls, with demonstrated success at securing donations.

Qualifications

• Proficiency with Google Analytics, Google Suite, fundraising software, CRMs and? online advertising.?

• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships.

• Knowledgeable about the latest fundraising tactics and the ability to determine their effectiveness.

• Complete deliverables in established timeframes while maintaining flexibility.

• Excellent planning and organization skills with a strong attention to detail.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

• Availability to work weekends and evenings as needed.?

• Experience with Neon CRM preferred.?

is excited to announce the inaugural Demand To Be Heard residency, supporting performing artists who are survivors of gender-based violence, interpartner violence, domestic violence and/or sexual assault. A catalyst for self-discovery and personal growth, Demand To Be Heard invites survivors to shatter the barriers of stigma, cultivate empathy, understanding, and support among a wider community. This platform raises awareness about the impact of trauma, challenges societal misconceptions, and fosters a culture of healing and resilience.

We encourage survivors from all backgrounds and experiences to embrace their creativity and participate in this transformative initiative. By sharing their art and stories, survivors not only empower themselves but also inspire others who may be on their own healing journey. The Demand To Be Heard residency will support artists in developing work to reflect their lived experience as a survivor, and will provide an opportunity for artists to show their work in a culminating production.

Resident artists will receive:

• Group workshops led by professional performing artists, body workers, writers, educators, and leaders in the gender-based violence field. Presenters include:

• One-on-one mentorship with The Sunflower Project’s founder .

• Bi-weekly Body Memory Method sessions (read more about the Body Memory Method )

• The opportunity to showcase their work in a professionally staged production at the end of the program.

• Process and project documentation, plus a production stipend.

The resident artist cohort will meet regularly in Los Angeles from May through October 2025, at intervals and times determined by the group as a whole. Artists should anticipate spending 3-6 hours a month in group and individual meetings, plus additional time working on their project.

Applications are open on March 1st, and will close on March 28th. Selected artists will be notified by April 13th.

Artists/survivors of all performing arts backgrounds are encouraged to apply, regardless of the number of years you’ve been practicing. There are 5 spots available.

The Sunflower Project envisions a world where all survivors are deeply supported in reclaiming their voice. By using storytelling, embodied movement, and a wide range of creative outlets, our work encourages emotional processing, fosters healing, and builds community. We aim to educate all young people about healthy relationships early in life, regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, background, location, or socio-economic status.

The San Pedro Waterfront Arts District has received a grant from the Port of Los Angeles Community Grant Program to create and install a 650 square foot artist designed crosswalk in front of the Maritime Museum at 6th and Harbor as a demonstration site. The proposed design must stay within the existing crosswalk area.?

SUBMISSION?REQUIREMENTS

Please?include?the?following?with?your?submission:

1. Artist Statement – brief description of your work as an artist, your interest and qualifications for this public art program, as well as your experiences and approach to this project
2. Resume – please send your current resume and include the artist team, if applicable.
3. References – name, address, email and phone number for 3 professional references or someone who can vouch for you.
4. Images of at least 3 of past public art projects and/or a website highlighting your work. All image files must be in a PDF format and clearly labeled with your name, contact info and date.
5. Sample Concept Sketch as a full color rendering of the proposed design in a PDF format.

FEE?SCHEDULE?AND?THE?WORK:

The Arts District will award 3 artists $250 for a detailed rendering of the proposed design.?

After a public selection?process,?the?winning?artist?will?receive?$1500?for?the?design,?in?a?format?acceptable to?the?paving?company.

SUBMISSION?PROCESS:

DEADLINE:

• All submissions are due on Monday, April 7, 2025 by 5pm.
• The 3 finalists’ designs will be selected by Friday, April 14, 2025, and will be used in social media campaigns for community voting and feedback.
• Community feedback/voting will conclude by Friday, May 9, 2025, and the selected artist will be paid $1500 in 2 installments, payable by invoice to the San Pedro Waterfront Arts District.
• Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.
• The winning artist will be expected to work with the paving company to implement their design on the crosswalk.
• Artist designed crosswalk to be completed and installed by Monday, June 30, 2025.

For over 30 years, the Getty Marrow Undergraduate Internship program has funded paid summer internships for outstanding students who are underrepresented in museums and visual arts organizations. This can include—among other things—socioeconomic status, cultural background, physical or other disability, geographical origin and/or any life experiences that add diverse and underrepresented perspectives.

Eligibility is limited to currently enrolled undergraduates (bachelor's degree program, associate's degree program, or vocational or technical program below the baccalaureate level) who?reside in or attend college in LA County. Students must have completed at least one semester of college by June 2025 and be a United States citizen or permanent resident (non-citizen authorized to live and work in the United States on a permanent basis; also known as a "green card" holder). Students with DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival) status valid through the internship period are also eligible. Candidates may come from all areas of undergraduate study and need not have demonstrated a previous commitment to the visual arts.
