You do not need it (ALC cable). The TX delay on the Yaesu is important since the LA-1K is NOT a full break in amp it is set on the VOX control (at least that is the way on my FTdx5000) and I believe on the 991 too. I can not speak on any ICOM
Your call would be nice when you post. Enjoy your amp. Unfortunately? due to some health issues I may neeed to part with my amp

I am also at lost about TX delay thing in the manual.? Currently I have just keying cable connected to the amp.

I will be using either Yaesu FT-991A or Icom IC-7000 but most likely it will be 991A.? I don't even know where to look for the TX delay. I only place I can see in the 991A manual was in menu setting for CW.

Re: LA-1K / HF Auto purchase

I've had my pair almost a year now. I absolutely love them ! It's about as close to having an easy to use 1kw transceiver as you can get. Mine are both black in color. My wish list, the same touch screen on the tuner, and legal limit on the amp.?

I purchased both units two months ago (early December). On both of my units, the color is a fairly dark gray -- not black, however the shades of gray don't match each other exactly.

If I have any complaint at all, it would be about a service issue. My LA-1K had the finals go out just seconds after powering the unit up for the first time.? After sending it in for warranty repair, Palstar called on the phone blaming me for causing the finals to die. The remark was, "I don't know what you did to cause this to happen."? They couldn't figure out why the finals died, so they seemed to think I caused it.? ?I had never driven the unit with more than 40 watts, and the SWR was well under 2:1 for the few seconds before the finals failed.? I had followed all precautions that were recommended by Palstar.? The bottom line is, the finals were defective, plain and simple.? That's why we have warranties to protect the consumer from these kind of defects. Why they wanted to blame me, a brand new customer, didn't seem to promote quality customer service, in my thinking. Anyway, they expected me to pay the return shipping, which I did because I wanted my amplifier back. So, if I question anything about Palstar, it would be the way they handled this warranty situation.??

If you decide to purchase either or both of these units, you'll have very high quality gear that will give you great service.

I've had mine only month maybe two, but they are wonderful. I'm extremely happy with the set. Extremely simple to use.

As for the case. I'm not in front of mine now, but I believe the case is black and the face plate is a darker grey. Here is a link to an image of mine.

The touch screen on the LA-1K will not operate on the HF-AUTO. They are connected only via coaxial jumper. The controls on the HF-AUTO are controlled via physical buttons so you wouldn't even be able to replace the screen on the HF-AUTO and use it that way.

You will love the LA-1K.? Got mine couple months ago and it works like a dream.? On 6 meters puts out a KW with only 40 watts drive.? I use TRX-Manager to run it remotely on the computer.

With a?dedicated 110V 20 amp circuit, you should be able to easily drive between 850 watts to over 1KW SSB peek, but if are able to get or have access to a 220,? then even better.

I have ave my entire office, PC, cable modem, router, Monitors, Radio, power supply, auto antenna turner and LA1K Amp and lamp on a?
dedicated 110V 20 amp circuit. I can easily get between 850 watts to over 1KW SSB peek.

Good Luck Kelly.

Re: Flex to amp cable

Make sure your cable from your amp is plugged directly in to TX 1 Jack. Then go to Radio settings and click TX settings. Select RCA TX 1 and click Enable. Under Max power type in the recommended wattage number of Manufacture not to overdrive the amp. If using ALC, click under Hardware Enabled. You will adjust the desired ALC level with the tune button engageged and the slider. Set the tune slider to 10 watts. Next to Mic then adjusted desired Mic Gain. Then you should be good to go.
