This is a short instruction for VSD.?The first part is on the sound file.

All sounds in a VSD file are WAV files, e.g. bell.wav. Other sound file types are not supported.

If you already have a new WAV file for the bell, you're almost ready to go to change the VSD file. However, I suggest to compare the new file with the old file regarding the volume. There should be a audio-player on your computer to do that.

If necessary you can change the volume within the VSD file, see below. But you can also change the volume with an audio editor, e.g. the free Audacity, see??.

If you don't have an alternative WAV file yet, there are various sources on the internet. Here is one of my favorite source:??(see "DA_DI_COLL_V1/Glocke" in the Sound List).

Of course you can record and use your own sounds. An audio editor could record sounds too. Your sound file may be from another file type than WAV. An audio editor also enables the conversion of a file type, e.g. from bell.mp3 to bell.wav.

The next part is about changing the VSD file. Here are the step-by-step instructions...

1) Copy the VSD file to a new directory.

2) Open the VSD file.

The VSD File is a ZIP archive. Rename the file extension from "vsd" to "zip". Then extract the ZIP archive. You will get a folder named "sounds" and a file named "config.xml". A license.txt will be there and maybe a readme.txt.

3) Store the new WAV file into the sounds folder.

Choose an appropiate sub-folder, e.g. sounds/bell. You can leave the old WAV file or remove it to another folder.

4) Change the config.xml file.

Open the config.xml file with a standard text editor or an XML editor. Search for the old bell WAV file name and rename it to the new bell WAV file name. If desired you can set the gain parameter, e.g.?<gain>0.5</gain>. A value below 1 reduces the volume. Do not exceed 1.0. Save and close the config.xml file.

5) Create a new ZIP archive.

Create a new archive including all the files and the sounds folder from the ZIP archive.

6) Rename the file extension from "zip" to "vsd".

7) Copy the VSD file to the original location (overwrite the old VSD file).

8) Test the new VSD file. Repeat the steps if necessary.
