Locked Can I change the decoder type after I create a entry

I have one BLI Challenger it reads all the functions and names for them correctly i used steam with depleating smoke decoder. I have another BLI Heavy Pacific I used rolling thunder (prolly should of used steam) and all function names are blank on throttle. They do have the same functions is there a way to change the decoder type?

Jamos,

Not directly, no. But what you can do quite efficiently to retain all you did while working with the wrong definition is put it on the programming track, read type from decoder, go to the sheet with all the CVs on it and then read all from decoder. Have a coffee. After a longish while the reading will finish. There might have been a few read failures on the way, so sort on the status column so you see those bunched together, and retry just those until all are read. Then you're good to go.

Yes i use my NCE cab to read all my sheets. I wish i could dup it and it ask for a decoder type so I do not have to type in all the program data and pics.

If some fail to read, 'Read Changes on Sheet' will just read just those CVs in red.

thanks, picked steam this time instead of rolling thunder and it shows all the function names on read. should I care about the errors on reading?

The problem from JMRI's point of view is that the very reason for the different decoder types is that they do not use the same settings. It's completely self-defeating to think of it like that. If there is a way of migrating pictures, then it would be good if someone else chimes in. But I don't think that in itself is much work...

Yes, you should care about the errors on reading, because if you let them be, your roster will not have a correct idea of the data that's in the decoder. Just re-read the failed ones until OK.

It seemed to do so automatically I see no errors on the pages.

You simply used the wrong definition.

Rolling Thunder definition does not have throttle function names simply because it does not use them.? This definition is to be used? to setup the receiver box once
it is attached to the DCC system using the provided cable for the DCC signal.? Nothing to do with the engine.

Rolling Thunder related CV's as they apply to the Paragon3 decoders (Diesel, Steam, Steam w/depleting coal, smoke)? are in the Paragon3 definition.

That Rolling Thunder definition should indicate? RECEIVER ONLY? Much confusion as it is.? Not the first time people get it wrong.

Errors are not? a required action or the rule. Sometimes things go right? and the full CV page is read. ?
The more complex the decoder, the more possibility of? a ' fail to read'

Marc?

Yes thanks I fixed it just wondered if I could change it. Apparently not would be a nice feature to keep all the metadata and re read the decoder type like a dup with replace option.
