Classification yards
#operationspro
I am running a train with a route that selects cars to leave a classification yard and goes to 2 locations with yard tracks. It then picks up cars from those locations yard tracks and returns them to the classification yard for re-use. I dont use schedules or custom loads. Local trains then bring cars from yard to 3 industry locations. And returns cars back to the yards. ?
I then run the same train again.. It’s run over and over again as i only have 2 small yards and 3 locations. I want to service the locations with a local train and the local yards with a train out of the classification yard. ?I rather have a train that returns to its starting point to simulate what many people with large layouts do using car cards. When operating i take a train out of a yard, do setout to locations and bring back pulls from those locations. the manual indicates that a train with the same route cant re-use cars it delivered.? Does this mean after a certain number of runs of the train that all 400 cars in the classification yard are no longer subject to be selected. If so, how can i find out which cars cannot be selected by that train? ?Do they remain in that status forever? is there a way to achieve what i want to do other than changing all the c/i tracks in the classification yard to yard tracks or creating a virtual classification yard with a single track as large as the max train length and use a virtual train to move the cars from the virtual classification yard to the real one so the program can find the cars to re-use? i am having problems building trains going to 2 yards.both yards accept the same type cars yet the build will only deliver/pickup to one yard. I also ask for 16 cars and usually get 6. ? Both yards are almost filled so i use aggressive mode. could the c/i yard be the problem? tony |
From the help about C/I tracks, please read:
You would use a C/I track when you don't want the same train that set out the cars, to also be able to pull them later.? C/I tracks are considered an advanced feature. My recommendation is to not use them until you understand how the program works. You should be using "Yard" tracks You can change your C/I tracks to Yard track using a tool in the edit track window, "Change track type". Again, and this is the last time for me, only ask one or two questions per post, take baby steps, fix one thing at a time. Dan I |
开云体育PhilI assume when i read this statement that if i create train 1 using route 1 that i cant pickup the car with train 2 using route 1 because the program will see that the route is the same. ? Statement in manual specifically says ?“the same route”. Are you saying that the program will allow train 2 to pickup the car dropped off by train 1 because the train name is different? For the program to not pickup a car it must somehow mark the car to be not picked up by the train that left it. Is there a way to check which cars in my classification yard are so restricted as i do use the same train name with the same route name over and over.? PhilTony, you are correct, I think. In JMRI Help, I found that for C/I tracks, the same Route precludes pickup of that car.? I had thought it was "Train" number rather than Route. However, I could not find that statement for Yards or Spurs but I guess I wouldn't chance it, and I would make a new Route for a new Train, maybe just by copying the existing Route. Phil |
Phil, you are correct.
A copy of an existing route will be considered as a different route with regards to the C/I track default.? Note that you can always override the default by telling the program which routes or trains are allowed to pull or set out cars to a C/I track.? Better to use "Yard" track type in this case since there isn't any kind of sorting needed. Dan |

开云体育PhilBy any chance do you know how jmri marks a car to prevent it from being picked up by a train using the same route that dropped it off. ?Is there a way for me to examine my car database ?or other place to see which are so restricted.
