Locked Basics: Make connection work, between JMRI and Digitrax

Rolf

PR3 indicates it has a working USB connection. JMRI shows (?i.e. ?the computer has) only a COM4 port and some Fax serial port. Upon restart of JMRI, it notices that this COM4 port is actually invalid. ?Do I need to dive into Windows, to fix this?
I am using Windows Vista Home Premium.

Thanks.

If the Windows Device Manager says a port is invalid (marked with a yellow
exclamation point), then you need to resolve the driver issue within that
first. Once it thinks you have a good port, then go back to trying things
with JMRI.

Hardware connection issues, between the JMRI computer and Digitrax?have been resolved.

The only thing I do with JMRI, is turnout control. I have panels that have worked before.
Direct turnout control works. The turnouts have been set up correctly in the panels.?However, clicking a turnout in a panel doesn't do anything.

In turnout control, a turnout is named by its number as on the Digitrax Command station, like?2.?? In the panel that turnout is called T2. If controlled though Loconet, JMRI knows it as LT2. If controlled through track power, it is "Internal" and JMRI knows it as IT2.??

It doesn't work. What am I missing?

Hi Rolf,

It could be worth diving into preferences=>defaults. If you things set to 'internal' there that should really be pointing to your hardware, then that's probably what's happened. Especially likely if you are running 4.10.

Rolf,

It sounds like somewhere along the lines you saved your panel file while it
wasn't correctly connected to the layout. This was likely related to using
4.10, it has a feature where it would flip to using Internal when it had any
problem with the interface.

What you will need to do is:
1. Make sure the original LT2 type systemNames exist in your tables.
2. Use the right-click Move command on the username to shift it from the IT*
form to the LT* form.
3. Save the file, suggest using new name to keep it clear which is what.
4. If you have the panel file loading in the Startup, change the file name
to match the new panel file name.

I don¡¯t understand what you mean by the 2nd sentence below.

¡°IT2¡± usually refers to a turnout that¡¯s ¡°internal¡±: It doesn¡¯t actually exist on the layout.

¡°LT2¡± can refer to a turnout on the layout that¡¯s controlled via the LocoNet cable. It can _also_ refer to one that¡¯s connected to the track (DCC signal), and JMRI asks the LocoNet command station to send the commands.

?
Thank you all for helping out, Ken,? Bob, and Wouter (ben jij Nederlander?), I'm running Java 1.6 and a corresponding earlier version of JMRI?because with my OS I have not been successful installing a later version.
?
I looked into Preferences -> defaults, and LocoNet is the only option. All my turnouts have been set up as LT's, and they kind-of worked the other day, from a panel. However, when?firing up my PC after a few days, I see that all are now IT's, with only 2 random LT's remaining. Those 2 don't work from JMRI, even with direct turnout control.
?
I'll change them all to LT's again.
Any idea how turnouts can become IT's automagically,?when I didn't set them up that way?
?
Thanks,
?

Yes, I'm Dutch - but have lived in Scotland for the past nearly ten years now!
