Re: Decoder pro cant read decoder
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI use digitrax dcs100 on my test layout which is where i program decoders. ?I do have a pbt100 and will try it. ?I was reading the dispatcher documtation last night and thought 'oh first I need to figure out signals'. I am glad I can do that virtually - as I dont want to wire anything else physically at this point - in case I 'learn' that I need/want to restart again.? Your comments help me with these next 'learn'n' to be done?

Re: Help learning automation

For automation, you need minimum contiguous block detection for the automated part of the layout.
I also recommend profiling your locomotives with the roster profiler.
Signals are not necessary to automate, but they help.
I defined all my control point signals as masts, most are virtual (no hardware).
With defined signal mast logic (SML), you can automatically generate sections.
Once you have sections, you can define transits.
Then you can create trains that run on those transits.

There are some other DCC command stations, by different manufacturers, which can do so, too. But _all_ of these systems have limitations for allowing "Programming on the Main CV Reads", including: . Those command stations can support "reading of mobile decoder CVs On the Main" from only certain types of mobile decoders. Some of these solutions only support reading of mobile decoder CVs On The Main when using the DCC system manufacturer's decoders using its special electrical signaling. Other solutions support a different electrical mechanism that is aligned with the NMRA's optional "RailCom" feature. If the mobile decoder does not support the required electrical signaling solution, then the decoder cannot be "read" using the command station's special hardware which can otherwise support CV Reads when performing "programming on the Main". - Those command stations can support "reading of mobile decoder CVs On the Main" when the supported decoder decoder is on a chunk of track that is powered by the command station's DCC Track outputs. If the mobile decoder is located on track powered by a different "booster", it will (probably) not be readable "on the main". - Those command stations can support "reading of mobile decoder CVs On the Main" when the supported decoder decoder is configured to allow Programming on the Main "Read" access. If the decoder supports the Programming on the main Read" feature, but has it "disabled", then the mobile decoder will not be able to perform "programming on the main reads". Other restrictions may apply, like "certain manufacturers' decoders put so much electrical interference onto the DCC track signal that they can prevent Programming on the Main CV Reads from working reliably to _other_ decoders". In this case, it may be necessary to remove those badly-behaving locos from the command station's trackage when trying to perform Programming on the Main CV Reads. FYI - I believe that at least _some_ Tsunami mobile decoders _can_ have their CVs "read" via "Programming on the main" with a certain manufacturer's command station hardware. Check with SoundTraxx and the command station's manufacturer for confirmation. |
Re: Decoder pro cant read decoder
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýYou can¡¯t read decoders on the main. You must use the program track.?What command station are you using? This loco probably has a Tsunami-1 decoder, which requires a program track booster like Soundtraxx¡¯s PTB-100 with older Digitrax command stations. ?You¡¯re not using a DB150, by any chance? ?That one doesn¡¯t have a readable program track at all. Re: Decoder pro cant read decoder
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWhile not impossible, it¡¯s VERY challenging to correctly change addresses on the main. Best avoided at all costs (you can easily end up with your loco misprogrammed!)Set the address ON THE PROGRAMMING TRACK, then you can do everything else on the main

That means decoder pro is looking for the engine on the programming track when it¡¯s on the main . The ¡®program on main¡¯ is selected but whited out. Since i cant read the decoder i cant get the decoder pro to select ¡®program on main¡¯ using the big boy.

Yes it¡¯s an old tsunami decoder but decoder pro lists many versions of that decoder under the title of steam engines and a bunch of different steam engines.. First off, no DCC System will READ on the Main without additional hardware.
Second These Athearn engines used the older Tsunami decoder and they require a Program Track Booster (PTB-100) to READ on the Program track other wise they will fail on the READ. There is no ACK involved in a WRITE on MAIN, so your last error indicator makes no sense ( no engine on Main ) as the system does a blind write on the main. Marc |

The install program and launch program are 32 bit, that way you dont need 2 jmri installs. At execute time it evaluates the 32/64 conundrum.

Re: Decoder pro cant read decoder
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýSorry i misread your message.I did place the Athern big boy on the programming track and selected new loco and read the decoder. Got no response and error message about an acknowledgement. Thus i cannot determine what decoder is in the engine. So i use another engine and have decoder pro identify its decoder. I then select programming on the main and put the bigboy on the main. ?I write the long address to the decoder and get message that there is no engine on the mainline. Re: Decoder pro cant read decoder
First no reading with POM. (Programming on Main)
Place your Lok on the programming track and do new decoder, followed by read type from decoder.
read the main page to get the Lok address. Find the pages with stuff you want to change and read those pages t00. (All is best if you have the time)
Save that as roster entry.
The you can go to POM and select that roster entry, which has the address and other data.
You can now program everything except the address with POM.

I (almost!) always use the default paths when installing software, so that's where Windows put them.

Re: migrating from RR&C Train Controller 5.5 B1
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDale, Just one comment, and that is that JMRI has full support for the new NMRA LCC standards if you have any interest in that. Getting LCC equipment to interface with Train Controller is convoluted at best, and AFAIK involves converting all messages into LocoNet format. I am not aware of any meaningful TC support for LCC command stations. (existing or future) As of our last conversations a year or so ago, the author of TC had no intention of upgrading TC so that it could support the larger address space used by LCC. (i.e. from 32 bit to 64 bit variables) As a proprietary commercial program, that could change at any
moment without notice. I am just commenting based on my own
experience. Dick :) On 3/5/2025 11:39 AM, Nigel Cliffe via

Re: ESU 51840 SignalPilot
#definitions
Peter, thanks for your quick answer.
?
I felt that SignalPilot was similar to Switchpilot, because when creating a new decoder project in Lokprogrammer, SignalPilot is the first selectable one in the Switchpilot tab of decoder selections.
?
I will try to have a look to some of the Switchpilot supported by DecoderPro to have an idea of how to define one for SignalPilot and, in the meantime, if any other colleague is building something specific for SignalPilot I would appreciate any idea of help for doing it.

Peter, "routes, trains, manifests, and operations" are parts of Operations, which is used to move cargo between locations, such as staging, yards and industries. Running trains automatically is normally done using the Dispatcher tools. ?This is implemented by Sections and Transits. ?The initial help page is at? You can also use Jython scripting to automate running trains but that is a lot of programming work. Dave Sand ----- Original message ----- From: "peterparsons.pub via groups.io" <peterparsons.pub=[email protected]> Subject: [jmriusers] Help learning automation Date: Thursday, March 06, 2025 2:05 PM Hi All, ? I decided 3 months ago today to 'dive' into DCC based model railroading for the first time, though I've know about it for 25+ years.? I figured getting started was the best way- and I have a long shelf along the wall behind my home standing desk that I envisioned as the main line for sort of a dog-bone layout.? ? So.. I dove into n scale, Digitrax, Kato Unitrack, and have my training layout built (already on Version2 of it - as you all alluded to here!).? My layout has 16 blocks (BXP88 controlled), 1 auto rev section, one double crossover, about 10 turnouts (all with DS15k1s - don't get me started on that learning curve with BXP88s and shunt resistors).? Scenery is a future vision, after I really understand operations. ? And on to this email. I have installed JMRI - I am a Mac guy , so this is running on Mac Mini.? I have PanelPro running, talking to my LocoNet layout. I built the layout in layout editor, declared all the blocks, turnouts etc. I used the roster editor to enter my 3 engines (one is a consisted F7A-B unit).. And lots of learning - at the basic level I am up an running. I can run trains via throttles in JMRI, and blocks light up and turnout throw - that's all awesome , it was my first goal 'run trains from SW'. ? However, the NEXT step looks like a really steep learning curve - creating, routes, trains, manifests, and operations.? My next goal is that JMRI can run trains on routes I create, and manage them simultaneously - an automated operations setup.? I watch all the videos I can (not too encouraged by what I find on YouTube), and I joined this group a month or two ago which has been great.? ? So my ask is this - any other tutorials, pointers, help with this next part of the journey?? ?Advice, hints, and help greatly appreciated.? -Peter ? |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýKen, Isn't that a question of whenever he is using 64bit or 32bit Java? If Java is 64bit, I would assume JMRI to be in C:\Program Files\JMRI and if Java is 32bit, I would assume JMRI to be in C:\Program Files (x86)\JMRI. Daniel On 2025-03-06 15:52, Ken Cameron wrote:
