The router detail level change needs rebuilding. But that doesn't really matter, it only creates lots of pages for the build report, so the level isn't interesting unless you have a routing issue.
?
As long as the first selection for detail level is "Very Detailed" that will work, and changing that detail level doesn't require rebuilding your trains.

Roger,

Select "Computer" from the Finder "Go" menu.

Navigate to "Macintosh HD/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines".
Move the old Java install to the trash. ?It will be necessary to authenticate with the admin password. ?Empty the trash.

I prefer the Azul (zulu) installs.

None of the test releases leading up to 5.10 require Java 17, so you should be able to continue using Java 11 with 5.10.

Thanks John and Dave,?

The light finally came on here. ?I have JMRI and several amateur radio programs that use a serial interface. ?When I used one of the amateur radio programs and went back to use JMRI after I was finished, at times, I had a connection problem. ?It was intermittent but I am not sure which radio program was causing the issue due to the length of time between using JMRI. ?Sometimes, it is weeks or longer depending on how often I operate my model railroad.?
?
I purchased another FTDI USB to serial interface which is now used exclusively with JMRI and connectivity to my layout on an NCE Power Pro system. ?Since I did that, I have not had any further interaction connection issues. ? ?

No you will not. Even though 17 is recommended, there are no plans as of yet to make it required.

You need at least Java 11. Many seem to now be using Java 17. Wonder if I will need to upgrade from Java 11 to Java 17 when I update from JMRI 5.8 to JMRI 5.10.

Roger,

Start by replacing Java 10 with Java 17. ?JMRI requires at least Java 11.

Change the number of passes to only 2. That should reduce the number of pages in the build report.

One could start by reading the release announcements and release notes where the proper requisites (and additional steps when needed) are thoroughly documented.

It sounds like the problem is your minimum train length. If it can't find enough cars to set out to make length, it will add through cars so your trains are long enough.
?
Thomas suggested you deselect "Allow Through Cars", but if that's all you do, builds will fail when there aren't enough setouts to meet your minimum length. Change both, and perhaps you'll get consists that are all to be set out before the far terminal.
