I hope this is the right group to ask these questions. If not, please excuse the post,
I am monitoring our Digitrax system with Decoder Pro's Monitor Loconet feature. I am getting some curious output and would be interested in comments from members: "19:46:07.715: Query Tetherless Receivers. 19:46:07.730: UR90 Responding with LocoNet ID 7. 19:46:07.749: UR92 Responding with LocoNet ID 7, duplex enabled." We don't have any UR90s on the layout. "19:46:09.491: Device type report - SE8C Board ID 87 Version 3 is present. 19:46:09.506: Device type report - DS64 Board ID 125 Version 3 is present." We don't have either device on the layout. "19:46:28.844: LONG_ACK: Function not implemented, no reply will follow." What does this mean? "19:46:35.805: Reported Duplex Group Name="ARM-DPLX", Password=00000000, Channel=20, ID=0. 19:46:36.030: Reported Duplex Group Name="ARM_DPLX", Password=00000000, Channel=21, ID=7." This look very odd, it is reporting the duplex group as on channel 20 with ID 0 and then channel 21 with ID 7 in less that a second. "19:46:36.149: Reported Duplex Group Name="ARM_DPLX", Password=00000000, Channel=21, ID=7. 19:46:36.181: Reported Duplex Group Name="ARM_DPLX", Password=00000000, Channel=21, ID=7." Then again in a fraction of a second the system again shows channel 21 ID 7. Our system is set to channel 21, so this looks correct, but why such repetition? "19:46:36.060: Unable to parse LocoNet message. contents: D7 22 00 0F 20 25" I think this has been asked before, but what does this mean? The system reports finding our UR91s and a single UR92, but not two UR93s we have installed. Is this something our JMRI version is not able to do? Finally, "19:46:46.685: Sensor LS193 is High 19:46:47.024: Sensor LS193 is Low 19:46:48.630: Sensor LS193 is High 19:46:48.907: Sensor LS193 is Low" This repeats endlessly, Is there any way to figure out what this sensor is? None of our UR5 panel are powered, so that doesn't seem to be the source. We have 8 BXP88s installed, but these are set up to sense blocks 1-64. Ther are occasional odd sensor reports, I have no idea why, but they seem to happen at startup and then go away: "19:46:10.750: Sensor LS8 is Low 19:46:10.766: Sensor LS8 is Low 19:46:10.830: Sensor LS8 is Low 19:46:10.845: Sensor LS8 is Low 19:46:10.879: Sensor LS3778 is Low (3778?) 19:46:28.602: Sensor LS387 is High 19:46:28.602: Sensor LS8 is High 19:46:28.747: Sensor LS2 is High 19:46:38.792: Sensor LS2 is Low 19:46:39.846: Sensor LS2 is High" After 19:46:46.685 in this run, only Sensor LS193 is reported flipping back an forth. I appreciate any thoughts. Thanks. Jerry Michels Amarillo Railroad Museum |

Re: Question about sound only decoders
Am I the only one asking the obvious question?
A "decent" sound decoder would be able to handle the motor requirements of the locomotive.?
Why buy a non sound decoder for the motor then a second decoder for the sound system?
If it's a question of wires between the tender and engine there are plug harness's small enough and available...
Would an accessory decoder be more appropriate if truly required?
Better sound quality would be more a function of a better speaker, enclosure, and location than other factors, would it not?
What am I missing?

A beginner's question: on transferring my RailModeller Pro XML file to Panel Pro,?
I am faced with a plan covered in black circles. Is there a function that will hide these?

This should give you the greatest flexibility for loco movements around the service facility.? Occasionally, the shop move can be just in or just out, and the shop foreman will get a break... ;-)
?
I am working with Dan to hopefully take care of one little hiccup when it comes to consists and movements.? Sometimes the "over horse-powered" desired set gets replaced by a lower horse-powered set and I suggested we try to let the User decide rather the program automatically doing so.? Should allow for a dedicated Hostler position on layouts for some folks...

And, if you also select the "Prompt for Arrival Track" for the staging location, you would be able to choose which track the returning (from maintenance) loco would then go to and maybe make up a paper list for reference rather than having to open the "Locomotives" window each time... I just set JMRI so that the locomotives window opens on startup, so all is good there.

Did you also set up the Hostler (in/out) trains?? This would allow you to move locos in one direction at a time rather than always "exchanging" a set... I don't have enough room for that.? Re: JMRI Will Not Start After Upgrade from 5.0 to 5.6
#upgrading
I looked around myself and it was clear that JMRI couldn't even get to the point where it started to look for my profile.? There was probably something wrong with Java.? I removed JMRI 5.8 and went to another computer and installed Java 17 and JMRI 5.8 and it worked there.? So I came back to my layout room computer and installed Java 17 and reinstalled JMRI 5.8 and it worked.
?
I have no idea why it didn't work with Java 11 when JRMI 5.0 worked fine with Java 11. |
Sorry Billybob, I wasn’t clear. I was actually asking the OP to report back

Re: Question about sound only decoders
As the SoundTraxx reply to my querry in 2020 didn't seem to cover everyone's concerns, let me clarify.? The TSU-2 decoder does not need a motor or other load to accept programming, that includes reading and writing, and also includes programming on the programming track - I use Digitrax hardware, a PR-3, and JMRI.? I use both the programming track and programming on the main.? The loco in question was a diesel, so no chuffing was affected (generally a timing issue with TSU decoders.)? Obviously, if one wants all the realism available with this modern technology, sound wise, one should put a motor in the B unit (in my case).? The ability to program the device without a motor or resistor is great IMHO!
?
Thanks.
