Locked Re: PowerCab issue - locomostive continues to crawl after speed 0

How about this is speed Step related? ??? 14, versus 28/128? . JMRI virtual throttle and WiFithrottle are known to have issues with speed step option.
JMRI 4.19.5?? now has an option to select between 14, 28, 128? for the JMRI virtual throttle.

The fact the E-stop does not work sort of points to a speed step setting.?

Hi Steve,

Did you end up finding out about the stopping speed bug?

Locked Re: Throttle enhancement request #throttle #speedprofiling

If you save the throttle as a default layout with the speed steps slider selected, it loads when you load that saved layout.? I just tried it and it works (4.19.5)

What would be nice is a manner of loading this "Preferred setup " instead of loading the New Throttle and then loading the saved layout from within the OPEN throttle.? it is redundant.

I also noticed that if the saved layout? has the engine selected in it? (set)? it loads this save layout the minute I use " SET " (select) this roster entry from within the throttle.
It also worked if I used the Throttle option at bottom right of ROSTER page against this specific roster entry.

Hard to explain clearly. but it works for me.

Tony, you are correct, I think. In JMRI Help, I found that for C/I tracks, the same Route precludes pickup of that car.? I had thought it was "Train" number rather than Route. However, I could not find that statement for Yards or Spurs but I guess I wouldn't chance it, and I would make a new Route for a new Train, maybe just by copying the existing Route.

Phil,

Something like the following might work:

java.lang.Runtime.getRuntime().exec("sudo shutdown -h +1")

This is part of a python shutdown script that is invoked by Logix when the shutdown button is pushed. ?You should be able to adapt it to run any Linux command, subject to permissions.

Subject: [jmriusers] Can JMRI Issue a BASH command to set STTY?

My question: Can JMRI Issue a BASH command to set STTY?

I am using a 9-pin MS100 connected to my 9 pin serial port on my Dell D610 laptop (with 2048 MB memory and a Pentium M #06D8 running at 1.86 GHz). I am running JMRI 4.17.7 with Java 1.8.0_211 on Ubuntu 18.10 (CodeName Cosmic). My Desktop is LXQt version 0.13.0. The LocoNet cable goes to my Command Station, a Zephyr DCS50.

To make this work (and it works well), as discussed in the JMRI help page for MS100, I have to first start JMRI, then open another Terminal and issue a command 'stty -F /dev/ttyS0 38400'.? Until I do that extra step, I can successfully send Track Power On or Off to the Command Station, but JMRI always says that the Power is Unknown and nothing shows in the LocoNet Monitor.

After I send the extra stty command, the system works great, including Programming: for example, I can read from and write to my Tsunami TSU-1000 equipped loco on the DCS50 Programming Track.

I had thought that I could use my Bash script that starts JMRI and merely add that command after JMRI in the script, but that does not work.?

I had written a script that executed at startup that would issue that command after 10 seconds, but that did not work.? (Hmmm, maybe I need to make that 30 seconds?)

So I thought, maybe JMRI can send out a command to the Linux operating system using a script or Logix!? So I am asking for any thoughts that might help.? If JMRI cannot do this, my extra step can always be done, or some other Linux trick might be the solution..

I also thought (apparently incorrectly) that somewhere a conf file could be tweaked to fix the tty, but no Google or duckduckgo searches bore fruit.? I am a Linux newbie, so I rely on Google more than I would like.

I am just trying to make the system boot up, run JMRI and connect to the DCS50 by itself, and although I am making progress with the auto login and scripts at startup, with this stty thing I have completely failed.

Thanks for any advice or helpful suggestions.? I have three PR3's and an LNWI, but was given this MS100 and since my old laptop has the 9 pin serial port, I got it working.? I just would prefer it to automatically run when booted.

Just remembered that the NCE Show Cabs isn't available for Power Cab 1.28/USB V6. Needs Power Cab 1.65 or later and USB V7.

But the NCE Command Monitor is and that may be useful.

The Power Cab firmware update is a DIY operation. The V1.65B chip is available from the NCE online store or some NCE dealers.

I'd be surprised if the Power Cab firmware is the issue.

Do you have a Digital Multimeter (DMM)? If so, set it to DC Volts range and measure across the track (with the Power Cab connected). It should read very close to 0VDC.

As a related question, have you disabled DC mode in all your decoders?

But this doesn't explain why the Power Cab throttle works fine and WiThrottles don't.

Were you able to check the cab monitor?

What version of JMRI?

Have you tried an on-screen JMRI throttle?

Using the PowerCab throttle everything works fine. The issue only occurred with JMRI and WiThrottle throttles.?

The locomotives I tried all had different decoders and work fine on my Lenz system - newly upgraded to an NCE PowerPro I might add.?

Scott,

The Power Cab isn't 1.3 - that's the ProCab part of the Power Cab (the Power Cab being a ProCab with a command station and a booster built in). The Power Cab version will be displayed immediately before (or after?) that, and is one of:
- 1,28C
- 1.65
- 1.65B
Now this isn't a problem I've seen mentioned before, let alone in combination with certain Power Cab versions, but: 1.65B is the one to have. I repeat: I don't think it has a bearing here, but: 1.28C is just old, and 1.65 has built-in problems if you were ever to reset it to factory defaults. It'd basically revert to 1.28C capabilities.

I thought I had sent this last evening but I could not find it today.? Sorry if it is there and I just couldn't see it.

I just set up a Raspberry Pi using Steve Todd's build, connected the USB interface and tested controlling a locomotive.? It all works well except with both the JMRI throttle and WiThrottle when I decrease the speed to 0 the locomotive continues to move (crawl). The response to speed increase and function control are immediate - no delay.? The PowerCab itself works as it should - locomotive stops.

The PowerCab reports V1.3 so it is a little older.? I have another PowerCab kicking around that I'll try later today but I'm not sure what version it is.

Could it be the PowerCab version causing the issue or something else?

Thanks!

Not possible. The LokSound 5 series required considerable modification/addition to the special JMRI code for these extremely complex decoders. The 5 series decoders have over 2,000 CVs and almost 10,000 Variables (settings).

You'll need to upgrade to V4.19.5 or later.

Scott,

Just another test. Disconnect the track leads at the PCP and make sure there
is no voltage on the track, AC or DC. Just making sure these isn't anything
interfering here.

Anyway, everything else I did was OK, and now I can read and write cvs etc.

again , many thanks - problem solved

All is working well.? I have an issue starting DecoderPro.
I have stumbled on it a couple of times and copied the shortcut to the desktop.
The issue is, that it does not always start.
what am I missing?
Second, when I do get this to start it wants to read the decoder but it reads incorrectly and does not program.
Again, what am I missing?
