dave,

That should be uploaded now.

I'm struggling to find the BR2003-WE signal definition.
The folder of definitions just shows BR2003 but when i go to add a signal, im only shown BR2003-WE.

I have uploaded my BR2003 folder anyway

You can upload the session.log file. It is at the settings location/logs. See Help >> Locations.

Mitch,

I see that you have a custom signal system: BR-2003-WE. You will also need to create a zip file and upload that to your problems folder.

I can send you privately some instructions for a non-JMRI test of your serial connection to the Power Pro. That takes a big set of variables out of the equation.

But I'll need to fit it around other priorities, if you are prepared to wait...

I don't bother with OpSw 36 but instead use OpSw 39 two or three times a year at my club. We do not disconnect or touch anything on the command station. Using LocoNet >> Configure Command Station 39 is closed. If I read afterwards, OpSw 33&34 always show closed which isn't a big deal as I would close them anyway when I set all the OpSw's t0 what I want. I sometimes close 39 a couple times just because.
It seems to take awhile for the slots to all show cleared but that's not a big deal either.

We are now using the roster for this but I can't remember at the moment exactly what i do or what I see.

Jeff,

It sounds like we are not getting to the USB device. But there are a few
options left to try.
1. Create a new profile to get a fresh start. Just in case something is in
the existing profile causing issues.
2. If the USB has jumpers on, remove them all. Then try this at 9600 baud.
Depending on versions and other things, this eliminates any possible issues
with cab bus id etc...

Based entirely on experience with DCS100/200 Command Stations, but using PanelPro with JMRI version 4.17.3 and several previous versions, there is something important to add to Billybob's excellent summary of the Digitrax OpSw puzzling state of affairs.

If you access your DCS100/200 OpSw data with the menu item LocoNet >> Configure Command Station, JMRI will send a single LocoNet request and the command station will reply with a fourteen byte packet that should provide the current status of each OpSw.

We have two DCS200's and one DCS100 that is only used as a backup. I do not have the version numbers, but from external symptoms, they seem to all have the same firmware.

What can be clearly observed is that the status reports for some OpSw values cannot be depended upon to be correctly reported. From here, my only record of the questionable status is that OpSw14 consistently is reported as THROWN, but my untrustworthy recollection claims that there are others.

Why does this matter?

If one simply clicks OpSw36 to CLOSED and then clicks the "Write" button, it is entirely possible that your customize settings for other OpSw's is no longer what was expected. Please don't ask how this was discovered.

Using the Monitor LocoNet window with both the "Show raw data" and the "Show timestamps" options checked, will allow you to verify how how Command Station responds to OpSw reads and writes, one OpSw at a time.

Clicking on the "Write" button sends a fourteen byte packet to the command station and does NOT send any instructions to any Turnouts.

Our experience has led us to believe that the Digitrax instructions to unplug the LocoNet from the rest of the layout is redundant when the fourteen byte packet is transmitted, either from the Configure Command Station window or from our script. Stay tuned because we cannot decisively prove that conjecture.

Hi Marcus,

Sorry, I have obviously assumed far too much knowledge of things I've been immersed in for 40 years (though I'm 60 myself and semi-retired, this is my trade more or less).

It is a fact that AV products are far from infallible, they use rules to check whether a thing is evil or not. Sometimes these rules are too rigid, or out of date, or the software just isn't that clever, and they get it wrong--'false positive' is a term you might hear when this happens.

An MD5 checksum is a calculation that is performed using e.g. an installer .exe file as the input. More here: and here:

I see that the managers of jmri.org have used sha256 checksums instead, which are just a different way of doing exactly the same thing. The above tools will calculate either.

What it does is enable you to compare very quickly a known good download from a suspect one. You can view the sha256 value posted for the download. Compute the value for your download and compare--if they're the same (it produces a single number, which is the checksum), then you have a good one. If not, it might have been tampered with.

Most files on the internet are hosted on what are called mirrors, which are simply a warehouse of files hosted by some business who make money doing this, in exchange for offloading the task of managing it from those who have better things to do. Like all other internet resources, they can be hacked and this happens from time to time for various reasons, but is not all that common. Very often, this is noticed very quickly by others, and fixed. However infected files can escape and be downloaded in the meantime.

So, unless a particular mirror has been compromised, you are highly likely to have a valid download which your AV simply does not like for reasons best known to itself, You have a way of checking this using checksums, and if your AV permits it, create an exception for this file and proceed with your installation. I have always taken the view that I run the computer, not the other way around, and I am very firm with them at all times :-)

At the end of the day though, if you're not? confident wrangling this arcane stuff, phone a friend is also an excellent solution and I'm glad you have resolved it.

Best regards,

Charles

Surely you can override this warning with most AV products?
I would have thought you can obtain an MD5 checksum of a known good copy of the installer, check your download against it, and if all is well, just direct your AV to quit squawking about it.

Or am I missing something here? And how would a W10 upgrade help anyway?

I've seen plenty of cases where AV gets it wrong, and most of them let you do something about it.
Also, have we ruled out a real problem with the installer e.g. perhaps a mirror has been compromised? Also not impossible.

Thanks for the replies, guys. I probably did a poor job of explaining the situation in my original post so let me try to clarify

I have two flatcars. They do not travel in a kernel. Here a the possible scenarios.

1. When both are on a given train going to that location and loaded, I would like the switch list to have the train drop both off

2. When both cars (now empty) are on the spur I would like any train servicing this location to always pick both up.

3. If a train has previously dropped off one flatcar, I want a subsequent train carrying the other one (and it's loaded) to switch the empty for the loaded.

In all of these possibilities I can only see two moves.

Any thoughts? Thanks

Gerry,

The EasyDCC Command Station has V629 firmware.

According to EasyDCC Tech Support, that should work fine. The latest is V631. The only change, I was told, is that now the Command Station remembers what DCC addresses (Locos) its front panel throttles were controlling when power is removed. Thus, they don't need to be reentered when the Command Station is powered?up. No change to handling of commands from the serial port.
