Re: Installing DecoderPro onto MacBookPro and ESU decoder?

After trying to start JMRI and it does not work, use Finder to navigate to /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/JMRI/log. Depending on how your have Finder configured, you may need to use the Go menu with the option key to show Library. Open the session.log file with TextEdit, copy the entire contents and paste them in a reply. Dave Sand On Oct 1, 2019, at 11:38 AM, Steve Rippeteau <[email protected]> wrote: |

Re: Installing DecoderPro onto MacBookPro and ESU decoder?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDave:Thank you. I will share your information with our club members as we are struggling with DCC issues. ?In the meantime a good friend who is qualified and has an ESU decoder program has set up the two new PA units with the Walthers ESU decoder and the Walthers PA bought last year with SoundTraxx decoder to run together as an A-B-A set. So that resolved my primary problem.? However, still having a problem installing the newer JMRI Decoder Pro v.4.17 onto my MacBook Pro that has been up dated.? I downloaded the JMRI then moved it into the Applications folder, but will not open. I called Apple support and the issue had them stumped.? I really like the JMRI Decoder Pro with visuals, graphs and the spread sheet format to record and view your roster.? ?I started to add departure times as suggested. I built three trains and terminated them. Each train time was one hour a part. i.e. 1:00 2:00 3:00. When I ran the trains, they were run in order of the time.?
So now I figure I can print up as many trains as I want to run in a session now knowing what sequence they should run in. At the end of the day the computer will know where everything is at.? Mike S |

Re: getting decoder pro 4.16 to work with zephyr
Tim,
When reading CV values on the service mode programming track, older Digitrax command stations can have more difficulty than the recently-released Digitrax DCS52, DCS210 and DCS240. This problem can be exacerbated for sound decoders and locos with "keep-alive" features. JMRI can attempt to work around some of this by "retrying" the operation, but this does not always work. Be sure that your programming track and loco wheels are CLEAN. Dirty track can cause CV read and CV write failures, simply because the decoder does not reliably see the CV programming packets, or because the command station simply does not see the "acknowledge" pulse from the decoder. Providing direct wired connections to the decoder is a pain in the butt, but can be a significant improvement over wheel-to-rail contact. The DCS50 and DCS51 have a "Blast Mode" feature which sometimes can make it easier to program decoders versus the default "non-blast mode". If you are attempting to read a recent full-featured sound decoder, it is VERY common to take long times to read all CVs, simply because there are so many CVs. If your decoder has a keep-alive feature, it may be helpful to remove the keep-alive device during programming and re-install it afterwards. If your decoder is a sound decoder or has a keep-alive feature, in some cases a "programming booster" device will help. I prefer the SoundTrax "PTB100". Other programming boosters exist and may help with your programming difficulties. Regards, Billybob |

Tim,
Was it using Direct or Paged method? Paged is slower than Direct. Also if it didn't match the decoder right, it could be asking for CV's that don't exist on that decoder. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.org www.syracusemodelrr.org |

I do not use Dropbox, but I share my VSD files for several JMRI profiles. My path looks like "C:\Users\Klaus\JMRI\vsdecoder\". Since the VSD files contain the sound files, one folder should be enough for VSD. It's a good idea to use a top folder like "resources". Conrad, If you want to follow this recommendation, please set the new path for each necessary JMRI profile doing PanelPro >> Debug >> Virtual Sound Decoder >> VSDecoder Preferences >> browse for the desired "Default VSD File Path" >> Save. If you are using Roster for VSD, then please check the path in each Roster. Klaus |

Re: getting decoder pro 4.16 to work with zephyr
That worked!? At least, it's reading CVs.? ? Though for some CVs it says " programming error no acknowledgement from locomotive" then seems to try again and in at least some cases moves to the next CV without the error message.? It took a long time too. About 15 minutes.? How should I interpret that? Thanks. ?

Mike,
?You don't have to if you plan on running real time, one after the other. However if you get too far ahead you will end up with a lot of caboose hops as there won't be any open spurs to receive cars. If you want to have the crews have their switch lists for the full run, yes... you will need to terminate each build before the next one. The only problem with this is if a crew misses a pickup then you start to have no place for setouts... and then the fun begins! Gordon Spalty |

If you terminate a train then the cars will be available for other trains
However, if you are running more than one train at a time during the session cars might not be set out at a location when the other trains are looking for them.. Bob |

Re: Paragon 2 SW-1500
If all fails, reset the decoder. Our experience with BLI with early QSI and then Paragon, is that at times for no apparent reason, they stopped working. We never found the real reason, but we did notice that on shorts on the layout then eventually the engines in question would show that problem (BTW, not all at once). We still have a few engines with Paragon 2 (a couple of USRA Pacifics and an AB Shark nose set). All the rest have been replaced with Tsunami 2200. Well... engine can also be put to sleep pressing F9 a couple of times puts engine into idle mode F6 will wake it up... Then there's the suggested check CV19 if not 0 then a consist has been set and it will only respond to the CV19 engine address... P2 are not happy with programming track reads sometimes... If the engine responds to any function of it normal address try programming on the main to just change things not reading first. Jim Albanowski |

Re: Sound On/Off
It's possible but unless you're only operating a single engine on that route it gets complicated fast...
JMRI can sense a locomotive passing a point with either optical or in track detection and send the appropriate function to a known engine. Need sensors and a connection to the RR. A little programming in JMRI a Logix would do it. What DCC system? If NCE their MiniPanel, AUI and a couple of detectors would do it too... Other systems... What do you have in the way of detection on the RR? Jim Albanowski |
