Re: Cannot run NCE on JMRI
Ken S,
So your log file (with 4.16) would be the result of either wrong port or a cable problem. Minor chance of a driver issue. Just to confirm things, I'd open up the Windows Device Manager and watch as you plug the USB into the computer and remove it. Watching the COM port appear and disappear confirms the COMx value. Also confirm the properties says the driver is working ok. One trick about cables, if you remove the PowerCab and put the USB on that cable (without moving the cable), should let the identify of the USB work at startup. That's the line that would say 7.3.0 for the version and it wouldn't complain about the AA command timing out and failing. Once that is working, then we know the USB and cable to the computer is good. After that, we try with the other cable and see if it will talk to the PowerCab. Small steps is best for this sort of work when we are helping from around the globe. Think of it as sneaking up on the real issue. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.com www.syracusemodelrr.org |

LE menu Bug
I was having some difficulty with the Layout Editor interface today using version 4.17.2
I am using Linux distro Lubuntu, Java shows as 11.0.4. Connections are defined as NCE Sim and CMRI sim with Nodes 0-3 defined. When I launched PanelPro and created new Layout Editor panel, I was able to access each menu and add items to the panel without any problems.? This included above ToolBar menu, and pop-up menus in the design area.? Once I saved and restarted PanelPro, the menus were inaccessible.? A mouse click would open the "drop-down" but a release of the mouse click closed the menu.? Using Alt-[letter] also opened the menu, but mousing over items in the drop down simply closed the menu.? Right-clicking on track elements in design area (to assign turnouts, blocks) would again open the menu to show options, but not allow any item to be selected for action. I reverted back to 4.16 and created a new/different LE panel and all seems to be working fine. Mark Z. |

Can someone share insight on what their club (or personal) is doing for tracking engines in JMRI for members who bring their own equipment to run? I know JMRI has groups/member list so that will make life a bit easier tracking engines in the software. I'm referring to engines numbers on the layout, what recommendations do you guys have for avoiding duplicates?? If there is a duplicate there's a chance it will be in a consist but I'm not sure JMRI will like a duplicate number in the roster. Is there an outline anywhere for recommended practices for a club?? |

Yes, I have NCE USB interface with a Powercab. Baud rate is 9,600 and I have no jumpers on interface. As I said before this combination worked a year ago. It only occurred when I tried to update JMRI version two weeks ago. Ken S -----Original Message-----

Re: Benefits of running a Rpi
While the 'big' computer runs most of the layout (read Intel NUC) we have deployed the Pi as the roster system for our active locos and cars (700 and 2000 respectively) with JMRI DecoderPro and Operations.? Another Pi runs the 'back end' of our yards and 2 engine service facilities with 'virtual' panels for ladder routing and reverse loops (accessed through the JMRI Web server) connected to a growing set of LCC components (multiple Towerman and SMD8/FOB combos.)? ?This system starts with the layout and is manually shutdown at the end of operations (VNC from the main computer).

Re: Cannot run NCE on JMRI
One issue with 4.16 is that there may be a baud rate issue when installed.
Some combinations work fine, other fail. There are ways to deal with it, the issue is it either blanking the baud rate in the profile.xml data or not reading it successfully. The result is JMRI will use what it thinks the 'default' rate for the interface and that isn't always correct. So expecting instant success isn't right. Reviewing the console log will tell what it ended up doing. From that we can point to correcting it, if the baud rate issue happens. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.com www.syracusemodelrr.org |

Re: DCS52, Loksound Select, JMRI Eror 308 during identify decoder
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Dave, Yes, so I was able to confirm that changing to Direct Byte mode corrected the issue without any problem and we can now read the decoders on the programming track of the DCS52 in either Dedicated Programmer Mode or Zephyr Express Mode. One thing I am struggling to setup is setting Direct Byte mode to be the default programming method vs Paged, so that when people come along to read the decoders, they don't get frustrated that things aren't reading, when they forget to change that. Is there a way to set this somehow, as i didn't see it in the preferences.

I am running the latest version of Steve Todd's (thank you Steve!!!) DCC++ image.? Only using PanelPro for all JMRI activities.? I can easily create throttles, turnouts, and run with python programs.? I cannot get JMRI to sense any of the four NCE BD20's in the layout.? While it appears I can create the turnouts in JRMI, JMRI senses nothing.? A test with a multimeter shows that the voltage drops from about 4.25 volts to 0.005 or 0.000 when a locomotive enters the block.
The BD20's are powered by the 5v and Gnd on the Motor Shield.? Each of the BD20's logic+ is connected to an "open" digital i/o pin on the Motor Shield pins 2, 4, 6, and 7 (see ).? These pins are mapped to Hardware IDs 8, 10, 12, and 13 when the sensors are setup.? I even tried setting up sensors for every possible pin of the Motor Shield. I have tried numerous times deleting and re-creating the sensors in JMRI.? I always test to assure that the logic+ of the block containing the locomotive has dropped to zero.? My conclusion is that for some reason, the sensors aren't working in the current version of DCC++ & JRMI. Hoping someone here can put me in my place and tell me what stupid thing I have forgotten or gotten wrong. |
