I have a similar problem and none of the provided methods would cause the train to pause in the first block of a 2 block section. Steve G basically said that for autotrains running try to use only single block sections. My configuration has train and block lengths accurately defined, all cars detected and transits configured to allocate to Safe sections.
I managed to come up with a kludge which almost stops a train in the first section. I set an action to turn the sensor to the first block off as soon as the train enters the second block. Autotrains thinks the train is now totally within the second block and pauses. It also ensures trains stop near the center of the two blocks preventing overshoots if the train length is close to the length of the block.

The Pause action has more than a few issues that have been around for ever. It tends to only work on entry no delay, and uses a different stopping method than anywhere else.
Using a multi block end section for back and forth has issues as well.

Anyone who has fandangled there JMRI install will have little problem grasping it. Newbs, not so sure.
Those of us creating profiles and setting up JMRi to our liking probably do not need DROPBOX instructions. The Dropbox instructions are created for the benefit of many users who set up shared User Files, Rosters, Profiles etc. Many of these will have got rid of their My_JMRI_Railroad default profile by now. I see what you mean, but it's pretty easy (at least for me) to assume that 'Roster Location' and 'Roster Folder' are the same place.
I was educated in an era when syntax, punctuation and capitalisation were treated as very important. I now 'work' as a JMRI developer, with Java code, Mac/UNIX case-sensitive file and command structures, etc. where correct? syntax, punctuation and capitalisation are even more important
'Roster Folder' (a term you have coined) is not the same as 'the "roster" folder' (the term we use).
Hence?'Roster Location' and 'the "roster" folder'?are not the same place. And it does say that the media files can be in the Roster Location, which is apparently incorrect. If the roster.xml and the loco.xml/ media files are supposed to be in two separate locations then maybe add a statement to the effect. Just a suggestion.
I'm fixing that. I would also suggest adding a link to the ProfileFileStructure page to the Technical Section of the main JMRI Help page unless it's there already and I just can't see it.. I can never find it when I need it.
Links were supposed to be added, but seem to have been overlooked/removed.

The System Console log file, when a Locobuffer (or any Loconet based device)? is involved, does not provide much. This is not like NCE and all the details that are thrown back and forth. All we see in the log is the connection type that was opened and all the other JMRi housekeeping. Even with the error condition replicated, there is nothing in the log that reports or shows it occuring.? This is pure USB.?
NCE is USB and RS-232 so there is much checking if USB is ok, then RS-232 baud and jumpers. None of this in the Loconet interface world
I've encountered defective Locobuffer-USB before and the console log was of no help.
Ross has been at this for a long time and I have read him for years (never met) on different forums, so I know he has dotted all the "I"s.

One thing to add. If the roster.xml file and the locoxxx.xml and images are supposed to be in two separate locations, then the <>???is incorrect. According to it, they should be in the same directory.
Thanks for catching that error in the documentation. I will fix that this morning.
It should read:
"Roster Location (portable name = "roster:")This location contains:- Your "roster" folder. This contains:
- An XML file for each loco entry in your roster, with stored CV values, etc.
- Copies of media files you have added to roster entries, throttles etc.?
(Older JMRI versions stored roster images in a "resources" folder in the User Files Location. If you have been using JMRI for a long time, you may have roster images in both locations.) - ".bak" files, which are backup versions of entries in your roster.
- A "consist" folder, which stores information on consists you have created using the Consist tools in JMRI.
- A "roster.xml" file, which is a (recreatable) index of the XML files in the "roster" folder. You should create/recreate "roster.xml" (Actions->Recreate Roster Index) if it is missing or you are experiencing roster problems.
By default the Roster Location is the same as (and follows) the User Files location unless you explicitly set a different location. You are free to change the Roster Location as you like (Preferences->Roster->Roster->Location Set/Reset). The Reset button causes the Roster Location to again follow the User Files location." I will fix that this morning.

? ? Maybe it has to do with train length.? I'll check that out next. But strange thing is I did a test with the single block section behind it and the train did slow down when it entered the block and stopped after the last block was cleared, but it had also entered the block ahead.? Not so with the two block section.

A working setup of LB-USB should display the blank 8 boxes for a second +/- and switch to three boxes displaying FW Ver, Breaks and Errors.
Testing I have done were the Monitor Loconet Stats shows 8 blank boxes is when the LOCONET cable is not present. The LB-USB gets power from the RailSync of Loconet. Without this, half the LB-USB is inoperative.? You see this by the indicators of the LB-USB.
I have several Loconet cables I intentionally modified for testing purposes. One has missing RailSync, other missing Grounds, third is missing Loconet
If RailSync is missing the RailSync led on LB-USB will not come active.
If Loconet wires are missing, the LB-USB will indicate good RailSync power but MLS will display 8 blank boxes. No control on layout.
I would tend towards a Loconet cable issue, a faulted upstream or downstream device on Loconet.

Hooray....It is working. I can once again blow the horn. ?I finally got the right LokSound version by calling Atlas and they told me to use LokSound select. ? So now all is working. ?I want to thank ALL who provided information and help in solving this problem for me. ?It seems that these engines were new in the box but a little older than I thought. ?However all is running just fine and many thanks?

Have you checked that +/- 5 v is really there? or is it just close? I use powered hubs that ensures that my voltage is true and also allows me additional devices such as a 2tb HDD for my Raspbery Pi.

In any event, I moved the roster.xml to the User Files location (the folder that contains the Roster folder along with the profile folders, systemfile, etc.) , renamed the roster.xml and .bak to 'Oldroster', reinstalled 4.17.2, and restarted DP with all of the media files showing on the roster.
