Re: Using Dapol semaphore signals signalist sc1 and dp8
I don't own a Dapol signal, but you may find some help on the forum.
I the semaphore can display just 2 aspects, you would configure the mast in JMRI as a single output mast (one output/turnout closed/thrown). Egbert |

Layout Editor issues
So, I'm working through the Layout Editor tutorials. I have part of a real control panel entered. I've noticed two problems.
1. Moving: Even when snap to grid is turned on, and objects started on the 10x10 grid, if I select a range of stuff within a box, and move it, the new locations aren't on the grid. I seem to need to put the cursor on the grid to start. With snap to grid on, I think the cursor should jump from point to point on the grid, so this problem doesn't happen. 2. Loss of control: at times, trying to move track, detectors, anchors, and switches in a group, they would only move in one direction, no matter what I did with the mouse. They'd drift off the side of the panel. And, there's no "Undo". 3. Closing without saving: In times like that, I need to close the panel without saving it. What's the right way? The only choices I get are delete or hide the panel. So, I've gone to the Panel Pro window and closed JMRI to escape. I don't know that it's the right thing to do, but so far, it's the only thing I know that closes the panel as saved before the editing messed it up. 4. Grid: The detector symbols default to 5x5 units off the grid. I can't seem to set the finer grid to 5 units, to let me put them on top of the track, which is on the 10x10 grid. I need to go in and edit each one's coordinates. These changes sometimes get lost when moving groups of objects. What's up with that? is the finest grid setting 10x10? 5. Placing many objects with sequential numbering: I'm putting in 64 photodetectors, each one displaying on the panel. It would be great if after I name the first one, ending with a number (for example PD00), that the next one placed had a default identity one number higher (PD01, PD02, PD03,...) I've used other editors, especially ones for schematics and printed circuit design, that had such features. I keep looking for them here, as I'm conditioned to expect them. It's hard to unlearn things that seem intuitive! Don Weigt Connecticut |

Re: Change Turnout on my Layout
This a pure guess: I assume you are using a Layout Editor panel and "Options >> Use Direct Turnout Control" is checked. If so, the right mouse button does the throw action. When the option is not checked, the left mouse button toggles the turnout position between closed and thrown.

Re: JMRI / DCS240 set up question and why so slow?
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýOperations Mode The NMRA DCC Standards S9.1, S9.2 & S9.2.1 define the technique for encoding bits and sending data packets to a decoder via the DCC track bus. This bipolar bit stream is also rectified to provide the loco power and is basically one-way, with no provision for decoder reply. S9.3.2 (RailCom) later provided for limited return communication by switching track power off briefly to allow a decoder to talk back using onboard stored power, however it is not widely used by either Decoder or command station/booster manufacturers. Service Mode The NMRA DCC Standard S9.2.3 defines Service Mode (program track). This is a separate isolated piece to track with current flow both limited and monitored. The command station can ask questions using DCC packets but then has to wait a limited amount of time for a response from the decoder. This response from the decoder consists of a single pulse of increased current draw (at least 60mA for 6ms), usually achieved by the decoder pulsing the motor on. This means the only two possible responds are ACK (yes) or silence (time-out) taken to be a NACK (no). For Paged Mode Reads, the only question that can be asked is: - Is 'xxx' the value of 'CVnnnn'? As others have pointed out, the worst case is that the command station has to wait 254 timeout intervals before it determines the correct answer (or 255 timeout intervals before it determines a no-reply). For Direct Mode Reads, the two questions that can be asked are: - Is bit 'x' of 'CVnnnn' set (1/on)? - Is 'xxx' the value of 'CVnnnn'? The worst case is that the command station has to wait 8 timeout intervals before it determines the correct answer (or 9 timeout intervals before it determines a no-reply). These protocols and timings are defined in the NMRA DCC Standards and no amount of processing power in the command station or connected computer can overcome them. --? It just perplexes me that the speed of communication between the controller and locomotive in a non-programming environment (say, setting speed step from 0 to 80, or turning a forward light on or off) is relatively instant, whereas reading a small packet of data in the programming environment is remarkably slow. ? ?? Even if there are 120 CV settings on one sheet, why can't the software create ONE string and send that data packet instead of individual packets for each string??? I don't expect there to be a simple answer, nor do I expect there to be ANY answer... just things I think about as I watch the reading/writing color bars do their thing on the screen during a read or write. |

Using Dapol semaphore signals signalist sc1 and dp8
I am struggling with JMRI to configure Dapol semaphore signals to British Outline BR 2003 . ?How do I set up the signalling heads and signaling masts to operate correctly.?
The semaphore signal has the accessory address 6 and is connected to a signalist sc1 decoder with a dp8 this is set to cv 15 for British outline signals.? If any member of the JMRI users are able to assist in me configuring correctly with the various steps I would be grateful. Previous layouts I have used 2 and three aspects with JMRI no problem but semaphore signals a different problem |

Change Turnout on my Layout
Hello from Paris France,
?
I start on JMRI, and here is my problem, which I think comes from a bad configuration:
?
Context:
?
Arduino DIY Central: DCC ++
JMRI 4.12
Decoder accessories Arduino.
?
When I create my turnouts in the "turnout table" I can control the movement without any problem OK
?
When I create my itineraries in the "itineraries table" I can order the movement without any problem OK
?
When I create my TCO with "Network Panels" I CAN NOT control the movement! KO
?
Or more precisely, what makes me think of a bad setting on my part, only one direction works when I click on the turnout : Thrown => Closed? OK But Closed => Thrown KO
?
When I use Engine Driver no problem either turnouts, or route.
?
An idea ?

I changed the custom signal system appearance paths from ../../../ to preference: and the icons load properly. I suspect that the 4.12 install had a copy of the custom signal system which was being used instead of the custom signal system in the user files location. Engine Roster ?
I just updated JMRI to the latest version.? Before I did this the previous version showed the entire rooster entries to date.? I tried to enter an engine into the new version and it syas it has already been entered but I cant see it.? I entered a new engine and it says it in saved in the engine roster it but I can't see the engine roster data for all the engines I entered.? I appear to be missing a step somewhere to see my list of engines in the? roster.? Can anyone assist?

Signal icons missing after upgrade from 4.12 to 4.14
Hi all, My setup was a simulator-only layout (NCE-sim) with my own signalling system, derived from the basic signal mast logic present in the distribution. - the 'resources' directory - the startup script I use - the log for 4.12 and for 4.14 (36 image loading exceptions) - the profile - the panel file I have included two screenshots as an album: Don't worry about the outline of the signals showing on the three panel editor panels; they are separate from the signal image itself to allow rotation under 4.12 without having to rotate the signal icon (which did not work) - that's NOT the problem. It looks like JMRI is not able to find my signal images now (located in resources within a dropbox directory). In the old version, it could (and can again when I reactivate 4.12 instead of 4.14). What do I need to do? If I missed any required information, just let me know and I'll add it on. Thanks in advance, Wouter |

Re: JMRI / DCS240 set up question and why so slow?
Reading CVs is not a simple case of asking for the value in a CV and reading the answer.? To read a CV the command station sends a packet to that CV with a value - usually starting a x'00' - and waiting to see if the decoder responds by pulsing the motor (the only way a decoder can respond) to indicate that is the value in the CV.? If it does not respond then the command station sends the next larger value - x'01' if it started at zero - and waits for a response.? If the CV has a high? number in it, say x'249' then it takes a long time to cycle through all the values to get a response.? As you can see, if you are reading a 1000 or so CV it will take a long time.? Some command stations like the Digitrax DCS100 will start at the last value acknowledged instead of always at 0 to try to reduce the time required.?
