Very interesting...

Never tried to program with the DCC++ Mega...

Following along I decided to test along and late yesterday I moved my
DCC++ rig to a different Mac (iMac Ed mid 2009) running 10.11.6 and JMRI
4.7.7...

While testing I left the USB 2 port connected to the Mega + motor
shield... Restarted and the screen comes up screwed up. What the? Okay
could it be... yes unplugged we start up...

Okay, iMac comes up but I forgot to plug the Mega back in when starting
JMRI... that left the USB selection wrong... but I'll check the
defaults... can't change radio buttons for programming... Sort out USB
connection... that fixed the change radio buttons...

As was posted now all works! Sitting along side me reading a Select
Micro (ALCo S1) into the database....

Am I wrong if I say I never have had to touch the Default tab for any
other DCC system?

Thanks for the detective work!

A spare cable never goes astray (in case of testing for failures). Best to buy a flat 6 way, you can use it with the NCE USB or the Power Cab.

If you only have one throttle and an NCE USB for your SB5, you may not need a UTP as there are already two sockets on the SB5. But a UTP is better for panel mounting.

Setting up consists: Yes, currently I amable to consist my locomotives using the NCE PowerCab connected to my programtrack. NCE does make it easy toconsist.
I just was not sure that JMRIcould consist my locomotives also.
It should be able to, but we have some unresolved problems with that particular code at present. The person working on it hasn't had time to resolve them.

WhenI put my consist (from the program NCE track setup) and place them on thelayout and run them using the SB5 / PowerCab/now a ProCab connection, they perform as theyshould. I am pretty comfortable with the NCE Consisting process.
If you are creating the consists on your standalone program track (Power Cab) setup and then running them on the SB5, you are definitely not using NCE consists properly.

NCE systems stores extra consist information in the command station to improve consist usage and this does not transfer with your locos. You have to redo the consists on the command station you are using for running them.

Please read my document at the following link so you understand how to use NCE consists to best advantage. If you don't, you are missing many of the advantages of NCE consists. The special NCE features are not available if your command station was not involved in setting up the consist :

I know I will have more questions, but need to get JMRI running my layout utilizing my NCE system.
Thanks.

UPDATE: SOLVED

I was checking to see if anyone else had this problem, and I found a few references to it, one with a solution. The DCC++ Facebook page has a post with this same issue and solution:

****UPDATE**** I have been pulling my hair out with this...After multiple times of uninstalling and reinstalling JMRI, Java and even the Arduino IDE drivers.... I have finally figured it out. I was even down to suspecting the board itself was bad. But since I was getting the one second on and one second off of the LED and it was showing it connected to a com port I ruled that out... (CURIOUS... at one time it was connected to COM 4 but switched to COM 5, Ive made no other changes and confused why it did this) I had even seen that some of the software was not removing itself with the windows uninstaller so using an aftermarket uninstaller (IObit Uninstaller) I had cleaned everything out, several times. Each time I had come back neither of my programmer modes would connect. Started to reason it out...yes, sometimes I can do that.. hehehe. In my head ruled out the card, Java and Arduino. Concluded it must be something in JMRI. (Had found that all the settings I had in JMRI from the first time I configured were always there again after a reinstall, cant pinpoint why this happened even after the uninstaller run) ANYWAYS.... thought there must be a switch/setting Ive missed somewhere. What I had found was that under EDIT>PREFERENCES the DEFAULTS window there are two options to select your connections: DCC++ or INTERNAL. For the life of me I do not remember seeing this page/window before but BOTH Service Programmer and Ops Mode Programmer were selected to INTERNAL. Hit the radio buttons for DCC++ and saved... BAM, everything is green again... WTH???

I checked DEFAULTS and sure enough, service programmer and Ops mode programmer were set to internal. I reset for DCC++ and now I'm good to go. So now I'm going to go play...stay tuned for other issues.

Hi,

Special Interrogate means that it will respond to the 8 interrogate

Turnout 1018 closed(off)
Turnout 1018 thrown(off)
Turnout 1019 closed(off)

Perhaps Dick B. will weigh-in on this...

Locked Decoder Pro

I was wondering if someone can help me out with a decoder pro question? I bought two Walthers Mainline locomotives with Tsunami Sound decoders already installed, OEM. When I try to add them to the roster I cannot find the correct decoder to pick from the drop down boxes. Both locomotives are GE Dash 8-40BW's.

JMRI-supplied graphic files should not be spread outside the "/Applications/JMRI" folder.

Locked Re: DCC++

Correct JMRI installation on a Mac consists of simply dropping the JMRI folder from the mounted .dmg file onto either the "Applications" alias provided (or directly onto the "/Applications" folder and choosing "Replace All" when prompted. That automatically does a clean install and is a very quick procedure.

If you are in the habit of storing your own data/scripts etc. in the "/Applications" folder, that is strongly discouraged as these will be lost in a correct update/reinstall.

If there is some settings issue causing problems, that can be quickly tested simply by creating a new blank profile under Preferences->Config Profiles.

Could someone tell me how this could be done or is this going to require a change and compile of JMRI. It seems it should be a menu item just like picking the font size

If memory doesn't deceive me there is an option in the menu to smooth the
characters on screen in the panel.

Hi,

George was kind enough to go in and do some adjustment which should have
made it better but when 4.7.7 came out (in which his fix was included), it
showed no improvement on the PC.
He suggested that it may be that java is using a non-True Type font and
this is causing the problem. I went looking through all of the Panel Pro
sets and the Layout Editor settings and could not find any way to point to
a different font family.

Could someone tell me how this could be done or is this going to require a
change and compile of JMRI. It seems it should be a menu item just like
picking the font size

Locked Re: re-check sensor state

Kev,

The TC64 has a configuration bit which enables/disables the TC64 response to the GPON interrogate. The TC64 also has a configuration bit which enables/disables the "Special Interrogate" feature. Unfortunately, the documentation I have does not describe what "special interrogate" means, or what these configuration bits do.

Perhaps Dick B. will weigh-in on this...

Locked Learning and Working with JMRI

JMRI Users Group,

I am fairly new to JMRI. ?I have set up the roster with my locomotives. ?My system is NCE Power Cab/Pro Cab (NCE SB5). ?JMRI 4.6 is installed on a Lenovo Lap top running Windows 10. ?I am able to program my locomotives (on my Program Track) changing CV's, using the throttle etc., utilitizing JMRI from my computer.
I would like help to do the following:

1. ?Can someone provide me with the connections I need to make between my laptop, SB5 (Power Cab) and my track so I can use JMRI on my layout.?
2. ?I am at the point of wanting to consistsome of the locomotives.? I am not sure ofthe steps.??If anyone could provide me withthe steps to take, I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks

So it's a standalone loconet and the hardware is RR-cirkits TC64's.

I'll give it a go next time I'm at the centre.

Cheers

Locked Re: re-check sensor state

Kev,

Short answer? "sort of."

There a couple of options which might achieve what you are trying to do, depending on what hardware you are using.

One option, if your LocoNet is connected to a command station, and that command station is configured to send "interrogation" messages at power-on, you may issue a "track power on" request to LocoNet. Simplest way to do this is via JMRI's "Tools->Power Control" tool. Press the "ON" button.

If you instead are on a standalone loconet (no command station), then you may issue the 8 separate LocoNet messages which the command station issues for "interrogation". This may be done using the "Jython" script "InitLocoNetSensors.py". This script is shipped as part of the standard JMRI distribution.

Some hardware does not pay attention to the "interrogate" messages. Some hardware only pays attention to the "interrogate" messages when those messages are found on the "DCC track" signal. Some hardware has control bits which allow the user to "ignore interrogate messages" or even "ignore the first interrogate messages after power-up". Some command stations may be configured to not propagate switch messages to the "DCC track" signal, or to disable sending the interrogate messages at "GP ON". As such, your mileage may vary.

Locked Re: JMRI_v4.7.7.R177ca31-beta & 6/16/17 WOW definitions?

Normally, a Pull Request gets the milestone added when its merged into the master branch. We build test releases from the master branch, so by merging something onto it, we¡¯re confirming that PR will be in the next branch, hence milestone.

Right now, the situation is a bit more complicated as we try to stabilize content for the next production release (JMRI 4.8, Real Soon Now). So the situation with milestones is a bit more ad-hoc.

If you¡¯d like a particular PR to go into a particular release, just make a comment to that effect in the PR itself so we can sort that out. You can also make a comment in the ¡°Create Test Release 4.7.8¡± item () if you think it should go in there.

Sorry to sound a bit officious about this, but I think we¡¯ve learned from experience to be careful with the last bits before a production release. People are trying to get a bunch of stuff in, and hilarity can ensue.

These ones appear to have slipped under our radar, probably because they did not have a milestone attached and we have been busy stabilising things for the next production release. Sorry about that.

I have attached a milestone of 4.7.8 and we'll see if we can get them into V4.7.8 <>
