Hardware

Does anyone know of any hardware that is currently for sale that could be used to control room lighting?
All the supported hardware seems to be discontinued on Powerline website. Thank you, Bob

John Moonan,

I think it would e helpful to know which version/s of DecoderPro/JMRI you were using when the suspected bug you referred to happened.

P.S. You can tell from the rack cutout at the top of each page that the person assigned the job of writing the complete LokPilot 5 Basic manual got lazy and decided to scan the instruction sheet that comes with the LP 5 Basic decoder. Probably did this in order to get something on the web site quickly, but then he/she has never gone back to finish the job and replace it with the complete manual.

Nigel, That
s the manual that says there is another more complete manual. Thats the one from which I quoted. You will find the quote on page 3, second paragraph under Decoder Settings (Programming). I guess its just another case of poor documentation. Too bad.

JCrellin,

?

Just to confirm how you used the Light-It.

?

  1. NCE command station (which one?)
  2. Each individually addressed.
  3. Which mode are they? Turnouts, signals, locos?
  4. All on or off at one time, like triggering a route or similar, one right after the other.

?

Thank you for the data provided.

Re: DP timing out talking to Command Station

As a follow-up, I downloaded the driver file from your source (not RR-Circuits) and tried installing (installer in the Applications Folder). On the first attempt, despite allowing the permissions, the driver extensions didn't install. Deleted, restarted, tried again, failed. Third time...success. Correct USB option shows in Serial Port options, and it reads the engine on the track! Yay.
?
FWIW, yesterday I went through the JMRI debug page you cited and it was no help...
?
But, I'm up and running now, so it's back to the tutorials to remember how to use the programmer and other features!?
?
Thank you!

Re: DP timing out talking to Command Station

Try ls -l /dev/ttyA* or ls -l /dev/tty* and look for the device. I’m out of suggestions.

Re: NCE ProCab- Light-it as signal decoder - Simultaneous commands #nce

1.? Using NCE
2.? I had 24 light-its in use.
?
Side note.? ?I use NCE illuminarors for structure lighting.? I have a mini panal that turns 20+ of them on simultaneously ech one is addressed individually in a long string of commands.? They all respond.

Re: DP timing out talking to Command Station

Why don't I? ...because I don't know what that is or what it does?
?
When I type "ls -l /dev/cu*" in terminal it returns this:

crw-rw-rw-? 1 root? wheel? 0x9000005 May? 7 06:47 /dev/cu.Bluetooth-Incoming-Port

crw-rw-rw-? 1 root? wheel? 0x9000001 May? 7 06:59 /dev/cu.debug-console

crw-rw-rw-? 1 root? wheel? 0x9000003 May? 7 06:51 /dev/cu.wlan-debug

?

That's half of the 6 options available in DP.?

?

When I plug the LB-USB back in the same three show in the list.

?

I've tried all three and still get the timeout error message...

Re: DP timing out talking to Command Station

I just bought a new MacMini M4 and did not have to install any drivers. Why don’t you unplug the USB loconet connection and in terminal, ls -l /dev/cu* to list and save that to compare against the list after plugging back in. Just select that in JMRI and you should be fine.
?

Re: DP timing out talking to Command Station

Dave-
I don't have mail set up on that computer (running JMRI) so it was easiest to take a screen shot to transfer it to my main computer.
?
As for the driver, I thought that might be an issue and went to RR-Circuits and downloaded that file. When I tried to install it I received an error that the file was not in the expected place (wanted to be in the Applications folder, but said it was somewhere else). And didn't appear to install.

Alex,

Don't use screenshots for the System Console. ?Use the "Copy to clipboard" button and paste the text. ?Text is much easier to read.

The selected device is not correct for the LocoBuffer-USB.

You need to install the driver from?.?
Make sure that you select the ARM DMG download. ?

If you still have issues, follow the instructions at?

Hi folks-
I’ve been a group member for quite some time, but very inactive for almost as long…at least a decade. I was installing some decoders the other day and ran into some hiccups and realized it was time to connect JMRI/Decoder Pro to my test track (layout under construction). I was planning to use my old iMac (from 2011 running OS 10.13.6) but it wouldn’t start up…so I just got a newer iMac just for the layout - 24” M1 from 2021.

I just installed OS 15.4.1, DP 5.10. and Java from Azul (zulu11.80.21…dmg). My test track uses a DCS50 (Zephyr) and ?Soundtraxx PTB-100 (booster). I’ve also got the test track wired so that it is either the main or programming track (DPDT switch to select the output from the Zephyr). The Serial interface is a LocoBuffer-USB (v2.03).

DP starts and appears to run OK, except that in trying to read from the decoder to set up a new loco I get timeouts (See first image). I’ve tried each of the 6 different port options (second image) in both Programming Track and Programming on the main options - all with the same timeout.?

I thought the issue might be the LB-USB, but the green LEDs are on and on the DP window at the bottom it says LocoNet is online. I also tested the cable I’m using to connect the LB-USB to the Zephyr and it is good.

So I’m stumped. Any thoughts on why the connection is timing out?

The i686 tells me you've installed the x86 (32-bit) version of the JRE. What you need for Win11 is the x64 (64-bit) version.

Re: How do I hook up a bar code reader to JMRI

Nick,

?

Check in device manager when you plug it in. Some devices make multiple entries so they might be used multiple ways. If it creates a COM device (windows) then you have lots of options for how to deal with it. If not, then you have a bit more work with what library or driver you might need to make the connection.

Manual for the Lokpilot 5 Basic is found on the same page as all the other ESU manuals, second item on:?

My bad. Found it on page 72 of the LokPilot 5 manual: “But only when the sound is switched on. You can set the start-up delay of the LokPilot 5 decoder in CV 252 in steps of 65ms.” Interesting that the units are 0.063 sec instead of 0.25 sec.

?

You can access CV252 using the JMRI single CV programmer.

?

I still cannot find it in the LokPilot 5 Basic instructions which say “A list of all decoder parameters can be found in the de?tailed manual for the LokPilot 5 Basic, which can be down?loaded from our website in the ?Downloads? area.” I can’t find that detailed manual anywhere. Anyone know where it can be found?

Ted, Definitely better asked in the LokSound group. All my locos have LokSound. None have LokPilot so I don’t have direct experience. The on-line manuals for LokPilot 5 and LokPilot Basic are not helpful. I can’t find a mention of starting delay in either one. But my understanding is that the starting delay feature was put into later firmware versions of LokPilot V4 and the LokPilot 5/DCC. You might try CV167. That seems to be the usual one used to set starting delay time (units of 0.25 sec) in the LokSounds.

Ted,

?

It’s possible the LokProgrammer software is not 100% accurate. I now realize that inclusion of “Delay starting if drive sound is enabled (bit 2 of CV124)” makes no sense (but also does no harm) since the LokPilot can’t make use of it. That starting delay is tied into the prime mover startup sound sequence which depends on the sound project. The LokPilot has no way of knowing what sound project is in a LokSound 5 that might be consisted to it.

?

The same thing shows up for LokPilot 5.

?

I have JMRI 5.10 and find that “Prime Mover Startup Delay if Virtual Drive Sound Enabled “ shows up under “Advanced>Miscellaneous’ in the LokPilot 5 programmer. The associated value of CV252 is adjusted using the slider. CV252 is in the ‘CV’ sheet. Unfortunately, no separate DecoderPro programmer for LokPilot 5 Basic.
