Bill,

?

That log didn’t have the other run. The session.log gets reset every time you open JMRI. The messages.log is the last ### runs up a meg of file space.

?

I think what would be best is a post of the messages.log so I see the history and a snap of the connection profile showing all the settings.

Re: After Windows 11 upgrade I can no longer communicate via NCE USB module #nce #windows

Ken,

There should be two sequences in there with the latter having it set for SB5 and resulting in the error.

I have three throttles on the bus, my original power cab (with procan cable), a second pro cab and a cab06 as well.

When I set to Pro Cab the system gives me the two green indicators on. Ottom.left and it does seem to read from a loco on the track.

Bill,

This log looks normal. I don’t see it showing any issue with opening the port, getting the id from the NCE USB. But what did you have set in the connection window at this time?
?
I’m presuming you have both a PowerCab and a SB5 from what you said. The recommended setup for that combination would be using two profiles. One for the PowerCab as the command station so you have a programming track. The second is with the SB5 as the command station so you can move around with the PowerCab as a normal throttle.
?
But to do that, I suggest you make a change to the NCE USB. I would use it with all jumpers in place. This is the ‘all systems’ setting. That in turn would mean both profiles are set for 19,200 baud. This way you don’t have to change the jumpers between the two systems.
?
But there is a table of the id’s used by the NCE USB and the code cross checks that value with the command station selection. The message you posted would say the selection you had in the connection settings didn’t match the id value returned by the NCE USB.
?
I take it that this last run didn’t give you any popup?

Re: Adding Sensors Problem #nce #paneleditor

Brett,
?
On Panel Editor it is straight forward. I used the SIM profile because I'm too lazy to pull my Power Pro out (I can if need be)
First make sure that you can see your AIU and that its Cab Address is correct. Show Cab will query your Power Cab
Mine is blank because I am in Simulation mode. You should see Cab ID 4 for your AIU
?
?
You stated that you were able to add the Sensor. I used the 4:6 method and giving the name of 4(aiu06).
This is for Panel Editor not Layout Editor it has a different process.
The System Name is generated by JMRI and it will appear in the Add Sensor Panel automatically.
I added 2 indicators and you can see that they both work.
?
?
Layout Editor can give the same symptom but that's because we don't make the Block association assignment.
?
You Right Click on the Track segment select Edit , Create the Block Name ( I used BLK1)
Then make the assignment.
?
?
Once you make the assignments it will display.
?
?
Hopefully this helps

Re: ESU 51840 SignalPilot #definitions

Looked at it and started to think about to do it, but I found that the SignalPilot has a lot of indexed CVs and, furthermore, there is no documentation about its CVs (all of them) :( , so, unfortunately, more than difficult to do it.
?
Should any one have any information about it, I am ready to help on it, as I already did defining .xml's for including new signals definitions for SignalPilot.

Bill S,

Looking deeper into the code, I see I need to know more things. I’ll recap:

  1. System console so I can see:
    1. Version of JMRI
    2. Version returned by the NCE USB
    3. The logged error message
  2. NCE command station firmware version id
    1. That’s either 1.28something or 1.65something.

?

But so far it is looking like you may not have the right jumper settings in the NCE USB and the version ID it is giving doesn’t match what it should be for the SB5 system. But depending on which jumper settings, the baud rate may also need to change to match what it expects.

?

But with the details above, I can guide the right answers.

Adding Sensors Problem #nce #paneleditor

Hello All
After a year away im back into it,and starting to put layout into jrmi, thanks to all who devolop it.
?
I have added sensors before and had them working but this time not so good
Ihave all? NCE equipment, via usb all good there
?
I have added a basic Layout in Panel Editor ,added turnouts now onto sensors
I open sensor tab,give the sensor a name,in this case 4(aui01)and the input 6.
A green tick appears, but when i activate the sensor nothing shows
What step am i missing.I tried manually setting to active but didnt help.
?
Is it a case of not getting the right info to jrmi?
Thanks for your time
Brett

Re: Frequently Asked Questions/Topics/Official Announcements?

Sticky is all very well for people using the group's web interface. I don't, and I'm sure there are many like me who just let the messages arrive in email form, either individually or as digests.

Might be worth a poll.

Personally, I think a faq on the jmri site is a lot more useful, and the standard questions could than be handled with a reply in the form of a single link.

I agree with Andy - Move the stickies somewhere else, maybe leaving one sticky with a pointer to the rest. Some of the sticky content is already duplicated in the Wiki, why not put the rest there? Absolutely none of the other fora I follow, either on or elsewhere, whether MRR related or my other hobbies, are similarly cluttered.
?
Besides, considering some of the posts I've seen (not just here), I doubt many people look at the stickies anyway.

Fr a given JMRI profile: "Edit"->"Preferences"->"Start Up". operate the "Add" button, and select "Load table content and panels...". Select the appropriate ".XML" file. "Save" the preferences.

(BTW: If you will want to open any of the "Tools"->"Tables" windows as part of the JMRI "Start Up" preferences, be sure to add those windows _after_ loading the "XML" file. Why? If you open any of the "Tables" "windows" before loading the ".XML" file, the display of the table will likely re-sort all of the objects _for each and every object_, which can be very slow. instead, if the objects are loaded first, before the Table's window is opened, the process of opening the window only needs to be "sorted" one time.)

Re: Edge Connectors in Layout Editor. #layouteditor

Stewart,

The version you showed is the Java version. ?The JMRI version will be 5.something.

Edge Connector "links" are connections between two blocks. ?For example,

Panel 1 :: ?track segment (block A) -> EC [link] EC -> track segment (block Q) :: Panel 2

Hi, I am developing two Layout Panels for my two-level layout. I have added an Edge Connector on each Panel for the connecting track between the two panels. When I try to "Edit Link" to connect the Panels, nothing happens. No Dialogue Box appears. Has this occurred to others, and is there a fix? The JMRI version I am using is 17.0.13.

Not a good reason to add them.? It only means that your flatcars can only take 20% of the available track space, or 1/5 five cars could be a flatcar going to one of those track types.? I wouldn't change a thing.

With regards to boxcars, I agree with you, you might have a few too many!

I have all of the jumpers removed from the USB board.(I read that in a NCE tech note).

I will get the log data when I get home.

Speed testing, Sensors, Speedometer output #scripting

As I posted a few weeks ago, I'm setting up a speed matching loop.? Using 8 BD-20 NCE detectors, 1 AIU, PH-Pro, RS-232 to computer running JMRI (Windows 11 OS).
?
Using the Ultimate Speed Matching (USM) scripts as a basis, modifications seem to be working well with the following exceptions:
?
Speed measurements can be all over the place due to "bounce" on the detectors.? The JMRI Speedometer Tool seems to not see this as much (doing exit to exit on the tool).? So will adding de-bounce to the 8 sensors help?? Do I use active bounce, inactive bounce, both?? Does this change the factors for calculating speeds since in the script, it's looking for sensors changed?
?
Is there a way for the USM script to open up the speedometer windows and provide an output back to the USM script.? In other words, is there a way in the USM script to call the speedometer and get the result back to use rather than the timers used in the USM script?
?
Another couple anomalies:
--? After the script is complete, I then run the loco at the speed steps and measure the expected speed and it seems to run a couple mph slower than during the script.
--? Has anyone figured out how to speed match with an ESU decoder where SS28 is always 255 and the top of the curve is adjusted with CV5 and the rest of CV67-94 are proportional?
--? Using the 3rd lowest measured speed seems to be a short cut.? Has anyone taken the measured speeds, throw out the top two and bottom two and return the average speed?
?
I have a current methodology to manually set the speed table by running the loco at SS 5, 10, 15, 20, 24, 28 and entering the measured speed into a spreadsheet that then tells me what setting to set each of those to in order to get the desired speeds (my standard is 10, 20, 30, 40, 55, 70 at those SS).? After I get more of the bugs worked out of the modified USM script, I'll take a turn at trying this method.
