JMRI user group meeting at the 2025 NMRA convention #announcement

The organizers of the 2025 NMRA convention in Novi Michigan have scheduled our JMRI User Group session for Tuesday, July 15 at 1PM.

I hope to see a lot of you there!

If you’re going to give a JMRI-related clinic at the convention, could you let me know? I’d like to create a list of those on our web site.

Thanks!

Bob

Re: disable interrogate:

Sorry for the double post.? I am not getting posts from this group.
Yes I have checked my spam/junk folders and it is not being bounced.
I do get several other groups.io emails.
So I am checking via the web site.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I will be updating at least 2 PCs to see if that helps.

Mttfgeo,

?

If you are talking about the PH5, that has the USB on the front panel, it may need a firmware update. Please check the date of the firmware via the CMD STA options. If this is true, I can help you with that. I don’t think NCE has updated their website to deal with this yet.

?

Which flavor of computer and OS are you using?

NCE PowerPro with USB - no AIU getting to JMRI #nce

Currently running the latest JMRI production version with a recently purchased Power Pro. ?I’ve created all my sensors, blocks, set up the layout.?
when i use my PowerCab and USB card everything works perfectly in JMRI. I can run throttles, operate switches, and show block data on my JMRI display from my AIUs.?
when i use my new PowerPro everything work except i am not getting AIU block data.?
what am i missing??

Re: disable interrogate:

Where can i find this to set it up to allow for AIU data to be received??

btw, it sounds like you’re assuming North American practice?? ?Other geos have vastly different standards. F1 in the UK for example is often the sound activation function, and there are rarely bells on F2

Something else to factor in. DecoderPro is most definitely international

Hi Bob,

? Thanks for the quick response.? I'm actually looking at it the other way (I want to know which FN corresponds to "Short Horn"), but your example does a good job to show me that I'd have to search for multiple names ("Short Horn" OR "Short Whistle" OR ...).
?
? Looks like I'll need to spend some quality time searching through the XML's.

Re: Looking for help to set-up proper Locations for my RR. #operationspro

Jon,
?
My suggestion is to create a series of spurs as your "pigeonholes", each with their own schedule that effectively are the source for "merchandise" or destination where the loaded cars are them MTY'd. They are all spurs for Location "Fiddle Area".
?
I have used this sort of setup on my club's layout where we have tracks representing interchange to the rest of the world. For example, I could be sending an MTY boxcar to the interchange, and the schedule for the interchange will load the car and send it to one of several industries elsewhere on the layout. This means that as you add towns, the schedule can be increased to provide the variety of destinations.
?
I find that doing this is simpler than using Staging, even though I use staging on my own layout.
?
Hope this helps,
?
Eric

Looking for help to set-up proper Locations for my RR. #operationspro

I’m new to OperationsPro and have spent several days searching the Messages trying to find a discussion about an Operation Scenario that matches mine but have not had any luck.

?

Here’s my Railroad’s configuration: Cars/Locos are stored in “Pigeonholes” in a “Fiddle Area”.? There are several Tracks that Trains can be assembled on using the Cars/Locos in the Pigeonholes.? Currently there is (1) Town that is ready for Operations, it has 15 or so Industries (Spurs).? A Train (“Local Turn”) is built in the Fiddle Area, sent out on the Railroad to service the Town, returns to the Fiddle Area with any Pick Ups, and the Cars/Locos are returned to the Pigeonholes.

?

All the Spurs at the Town have Schedules and Custom Loads and Empties (“Merchandise” and “MTY”).

?

What I am struggling with is how to I configure “Staging” and/or “Yards” Tracks?? Do I use “Yards” Tracks that hold all the Cars in the Pigeonholes?? How does a Load Change occur?? When I tried this, if the Schedule called for “Merchandise”, no Cars were found because all the Cars in the Pigeonholes are “MTY”.? Do I need a separate Route/Train to get the Cars from the Pigeonholes to a Staging Track for Load changes?? If so, how does the Program know what Cars are being called for by the Schedules in the Town?

?

At some point in the future there will be more Towns/Spurs serviced by other Local Turns and maybe eventually an on-line Yard that the Locals will “Turn” from vs the off-line Yard and then Transfer Trains will be used to get Cars from the Fiddle Area to the on-line Yard.

?

Thanks for any help, Jon

disable interrogate:

Howdy All:

I think it would be helpful for me to disable interrogate on my remoter panel computers.

The DCC system is Digitrax,

Computers are a combo of W7 and w10

Java version on all is 8.201 or better

JMRI version is 4.26+r38lc8dfc32 on the main dispatcher PC

JMRI version is 4.16+r6f9aced on my the TCP server PC that feeds 3 other PCs.

?

I start the dispatcher computer first.? It interrogates the railroad and then via start up routes all the switches to normal.

Then I start the TCP server computer and it too will interrogate the railroad. ?

None of the nine remote monitors displaying panels use sensors in the panels just switches.

The other 3 computers also interrogate the railroad.?

This can and has locked up the usb port on the locobuffer of the TCP computer.

?

So my question: is there is a way to disable the interrogate function when panel pro is started?

Re: programmer error: requested operation not implememted in command station (303)

If you're not looking for help... what then?

If you are: are you perhaps (warning: guesswork) using the NCE-USB unit to connect the PH-Pro? That combination has many things it just won't do, as they are not designed to work together even if they do. Sort of. Ish. A USB to Serial cable is what you need if this is the case. And if so, others will know better than I do what is currently the most advisable type to get - there are many, and they are not all what they claim to be with regard to chipsets, which makes the going treacherous.

But I repeat: this is guesswork.

Re: One Industry, Seven Tracks #operationspro

In terms of the industry, I see a minimum of 4 tracks to define in JMRI.?

1- Track 1, DDG loading [spur type], length set to available spots]
2- Tracks 2/3, corn unloading [spur type], length set to combined available spots
Although you could split these, I don’t see the need. “Local instructions” be it a spotting diagram, Spur Notes, or just plain old crew knowledge could indicate to split available loads between the tracks or fill up a track and set the balance over, etc.?
3- Tracks 4, 5, 6 Yard [yard type] similar to above I would just combine all the available space and define it as YARD.?
4- Track 7 tank cars [spur type] length set to available spots. If there’s extra room as you state, optionally create another [yard type] track called Trk7 Off Spot and define available length, with only the tank car type allowed.?

So far as getting the loads, entities to swap.. you will probably have to create either staging or spur type virtual tracks to represent your staging/storage drawers. Possibly even creating custom loads and schedules for spurs.?

As another poster stated, DDG is typically loaded in larger covered hoppers than the corn would arrive by, so reloading the empty corn cars is not all that prototypical.. but it’s your railroad!

Re: Decoder Pro / WiThrottle Protocol: Is there a standard for Function Labels? #functionlabels #withrottleserver

There really isn’t a standard.

For example, the JMRI XML decoder definition files have about 100 (!!) different definitions for just FN3.

Just a small sample:

Ditch light
Ditch lights/Acc 1
Doors
FWD Sec Marker
FX3 Light
Gyra Light/Air Release
High-Low Airhorn
Horn 1
Horn Short
Horn
Interior lights
LEDs 1-3
Mars Light/Air Release
Mars Light
Open Door/Close - Track Squeals
Passengers Light
SEPTA/TTC Advance Light
Short Horn
Short Whistle
Start up - Shutdown
Straight to 8
Toggle Switch

My question is whether there's a standard for those labels. Or could one decoder call it "Dynamic Brakes" [plural] and another call it "Dynamics", and another call it "Dyn Brks", etc.? I do realize that a user can change the labels at will, but most people don't - they stick with the default that's in the decoder definition xml.
