Re: Roster Media - Images disappear in one profile - disappear but reappear when roster rebuilt in different profile #rosterimage

It is 5.10. I will revise.

Re: Roster Media - Images disappear in one profile - disappear but reappear when roster rebuilt in different profile #rosterimage

Is that really JMRI version 5.1, if so which version of 5.1,x - 5.1 is a series of test releases.

If you meant 5.10 production release then don't leave off the zero - a lot of people seem to do this, but release ten is distinctly different to release one.

I suspect your problem is the Java releases. Again, if you are really using JMRI 5.1 it was intended for Java 11, so using java 19 or java 21 is likely to have strange problems.

Originally I input the the roster media on the Windows 11 computer but images disappeared in DecoderPro after DecoderPro was stopped (they still exist in the roster directory). I re-input the images again on the Windows 10 computer and the images seem to be stable, at least when I rebuild the roster.

Is there a difference between rebuilding the roster and reindexing the roster in its effects on roster media?

When editing a roster entry, is there a difference between file/save and save to roster?

Control Panel Editor Icon Scaling #controlpaneleditor

Team, I have lots of icons on my panels. Typically I am able to scale them up/down with no problem. Just recently I went to an existing panel with an existing icon and changed the scaling from 80% to 60%. The actual % changed to some seamingly arbitrary # like 32. Surprised to see this, I went back to change it again and, no matter what % I enter, it keeps getting smaller.
?
I recently upgraded to v5.10 but I'm still using Java 11. Is this a new bug or related to using Java 11 with v5.10?

Re: Semaphore signals #semaphore

Hi James?
I like to understand more of what you did to adapt your signals if you don¡¯t mind.?

Re: Decoderpro version 5.10 #definitions

I have followed the suggestion by Mark Granville and updated my 4.26 version (on my main Windows 10 PC) with 5.0. Of course 4.26 already contained my home-grown decoder file, but 5.0 worked ok and operated as expected. I therefore continued with 5.10 installation then after opening DecoderPro, it ran the "recreate decoder index' and my file was still there and it also operated as expected.
?
However of course I did not try to install a new Decoder file as there was no need at that point. Since then though I have added mods to my original home-grown file and tried to import it using both "import decoder file" and "recreate decoder index" but neither was successful in updating my file.
?
At this point I should say that I have two Windows 10 PC's, one running my main layout with Sprog/Xpressnet connected, while my other pc operates a smaller layout via Arduino/DCC++. The main PC now has JMRI version 5.10 loaded and the other 4.26. Although I still could not update my file on the 5.10 PC, I was able to update it without issue on the 4.26 PC using "import decoder file" and after restarting DecoderPro on that PC, the changes I made were all there and it performed as expected.
?
So I see no issue with my home-grown decoder file as it does what is expected in both 5.10 and 4.26 JMRI versions but at least with 4.26 I do seem to be able to update/upload the decoder file when ever I need to make mods to it.?

WiThrottle Configuration #withrottle #withrottleserver

I have several devices that started out life with WiThrottle on a different layout which has a different IP address.
?
Every time i start the iPhone on my home layout the app does not pickup the IP address of the layout and start automatically.
?
Looking at 'Settings' 'Configure' the IP address is that of my home layout.
Looking at 'Settings' 'Wi-Fi Modules' it remains the address of the other layout.? CHange it and it all goes, of course.
?
I have uninstalled and re-installed the app.? Full version, no difference.
?
How do i?get rid of the unwanted address in Wi-Fi Modules so that it starts w/o any further UI interactions?
?
* i have three devices with the same issue, and one that has never been anywhere else and thus behaves!??
?
With thanks

Function Labels / Labels & Media #functionlabels

Have trouble getting Function buttons to be 'not visible' as per setting the flag in Function Labels / Labels & Media.
?
Have read various entries and suggestions, but not getting the results expected.
?
In Function Labels the 'label' field is blank and the 'visible' field is not checked.? Click 'Save to Roster'. Re-open the same panel and the field is 'visible' field checked again.
* same if done via Labels & Media
?
Oh, sometimes if i re-open the same edit panel, 'visible' is unchecked.? Go to the other edit panel and it is checked.? Return to the first panel...and it is checked also.
?
Of course, when it gets to WiThrottle it says 'F4' (button being made invisible with no 'label' field entry.
?
I have 'Preferences' / 'Hide undefined roster function buttons' checked.
?
In the Roster/ entry, in <functionlabels>
* there is NO 'num=4' line.
* there IS a 'Function 4 Sound' entry under <Values><decoderdef>with a value, along with other F4 entries - which may be irrelevant!?
?
The 'roster.xml' in the base jmri folder is the same as the above.?
?
Please, what do i need to do to get the 'visibiliy' button to remain 'unchecked' so that the entry does not end up on WiThrottle...?
?
Thanks
Randall

Wasn't there already a production release in December 2024? Or are you
planning on sending the next release back though time with the help of Dr. Who
or Dr. Brown? :-)

If you are currently using JMRI 4.99.10 or earlier, there is an update process that we strongly recommend. See the release note section on updates:

Re: Semaphore signals #semaphore

A word of warning based on my experience of using the Dapol signals with the Traintech decoder and JMRI.
?
I assume that you are aware that these Dapol semaphore signals?change aspect on push to make (of the yellow wires). My experience is that these signals go out of synch when a push to make is missed (which I found occasionally happened when triggered by the Traintech decoder).
?
I decided to convert my Dapol signals so that they operate by an active low (0 volt) control.
?
Best wishes, James.

Inventory of rolling stock

G'mornin' Troops:
?
I've been programming my decoders for a few years now and JMRI works quite nicely.
?
It occurs to me that JMRI might be a convenient place to list my inventory of rolling stock.? I have searched JMRI and have not found a ready made place to do that.
Am I barkin' up the wrong tree here ??? ?Is there a way to use JMRI in that fashion ??

Re: Layout Editor questions #layouteditor

Yves,

I recommend that you look at?. That will not answer all of your questions but it will provide a good overview.

For item 1, use the "Tools -> Translate (Move) Selection" menu item from the Layout Editor menu.

For item 2, use the "Label Text" tool bar item to put any kind of text on the panel.

For item 3, use the same block name for the first two blocks and the other block name for the last two. ?Blocks are not associated with the turnouts in the crossover. ?The crossover has one turnout. ?The "supporting" turnout is used to simplify the switch machine wiring. ?One layout I work with uses a single switch machine with a mechanical linkage to set two turnouts. ?Another layout daisy chains two Tortoise switch machine. ?Another approach is to use the same address for two accessory decoders.

Subject: [jmriusers] Layout Editor questions #layouteditor
Date: Thursday, January 09, 2025 8:50 PM

Hello All,
?
I am working on a simple layout on Panel Pro, using JMRI 5.10 on Linux 24.04. The idea is to learn panel pro features on a simple layout. Here are the questions:
?
  1. I drew the simple layout (2 crossovers and double main line, simple double loop). I would like to move the all diagram within the layout editor. I am able to select the complete layout, but I have not figured out how to move it as a whole.
  2. It is simple to add and associate blocks to track sections. Is there a way to add the name of the block on the diagram. The idea is that the block name should be visible on the layout diagram.
  3. A crossover has two turnouts that are activated simultaneously. My idea was that each turnout would be its own block, but the edit on crossover is looking for four blocks. I can see two blocks but not four. Also how is the association turnout to block done and how can I find out?
Many thanks in advance for your help
Regards
Yves

Re: "Error Initializing PanelPro" upon JMRI Startup

Isaac,

The cleanest approach is to reset the JMRI user data. ?

Rename "C:\Users\<username>\JMRI" to something like "JMRI-240110". ?When you start PanelPro, it will be like a first time user. ?The initial configuration will be created with the "My JMRI Railroad" profile in the "My_JMRI_Railroad.jmri" directory.

If you will NEVER create sensors or turnouts, you can use the "None" System manufacturer. ?Otherwise use the "simulator" "System selection" for your command station. ?Other preferences can be changed as needed.

The final step is to copy the "operations" directory from JMRI-240110\<profile directory> to JMRI\<profile directory>.

Steve,

Thanks for the reply! If it's trying to connect via Bluetooth, I didn't intend it to. I exclusively use OpsPro without any connection to the layout (using no other PanelPro functionality) so I certainly don't need it to connect either.

With it still erroring before I get to the preferences screen, any idea how to resolve?

Best,
Isaac

Re: how to deliver a car from Yard to Spur in the same Location #operationspro

Without knowing your details I have a similar situation which I solved my changing the location of the spurs by adding -1 to the location. ?It prints without the suffix so it looks the same but is handled as a separate place allowing a separate route.?
