I hate to be Captain Obvious here, but considering all the fixes/changes/additions/(sometimes) subtractions that have been made by the developers in the three years since 4.26 was released, I'd be surprised if any given part of JMRI didn't behave differently. After all, that's why they release new versions!

Peter, thanks for the signposts. I wasn't aware that Java was available from anyone other than Oracle; also the distinction between JRE and JDK is valuable. It appears to be necessary to sign up with Azul to get the download. When I find my lucky rabbit's foot, I'll set about the task.
Thanks, all, for comments.

You only need to sign up if you want update reminders. I don¡¯t, so I didn¡¯t

Just be sure you download the .msi file. ?When it¡¯s downloaded, double click to ?install. Oh and be sure to install ANY existing JAVA first. If in doubt run ¡°Java -version¡± in a command windows. If JAVA is uninstalled you¡¯ll get an error

It's mentioned, with a link, in bold even, with the release notes for each release. You DO read the release notes, right?

Oh, and you only need to rebuild the decoder index ONCE per new decoder family. Any edits you make do NOT require another rebuild

Until you upgrade JMRI anyway

Thanks for your response. Yes I use My_Jmri_Railroad directory so I put my decoder profile in there and used "Import Decoder Profile" within DecoderPro.
It worked fine with version 4.26 but not with 5.10. I have uninstalled everything again and re-installed 5.10 but still could not get it to work. I will look at your way of doing it using "rebuild decoder index" but as you say that would take much longer as it will be looking at all the decoders, not just my new one!

How are you importing your home-written decoder profile ?

The way I've always done locally developed decoder files is as follows:?

a)? Place my home-written decoder file in the folder for local decoders for the specific JMRI connection profile.? On Windows, this is typically:?
C:\users\myname\jmri\JMRI-Profile-Name\decoders
( The default "JMRI-Profile-Name" is "My_JMRI_Railroad" )
?
b)? From the JMRI menus, run the command "rebuild decoder index".? ?This can take quite a while to complete - several minutes.? ?That installs the decoder file into the list of decoders known to JMRI.??

Hi,
Thanks for the responses. I wanted to import my own decoder profile not one of the standard ones already supplied with the software and yes I followed the import procedures.
I did not update version 4.26 to 5.10, but did a fresh install in both cases. My previous version (I think) was 4.16 and I uninstalled this first, then installed 5.10. When I couldn't import my decoder profile, I uninstalled it, and then installed 4.26 and everything worked fine. So still puzzled why 5.10 would not work properly.

Re: Problem with Dispatcher and 'Head Only' auto trains #dispatcher

Just run it. with entire train, which will work as it did before. The head only does all the releasing without adding you own logic.
Head only uses train length for releasing.

Problem with Dispatcher and 'Head Only' auto trains #dispatcher

Hi,?
I have recently updated to run 5.11.1 from 4.26, both on Java 11. I use Dispatcher extensively to run 'Auto Trains' around my loft layout. After much effort a I had a comprehensive set of transits and saved 'Train Info' files set up to run many permutations of starting point, end point, direction around layout, DCC address and loco direction.
?
I run dispatcher with 'no signals', but use section allocations (the direction sensors) via logix to set signals ahead active only when the line is allocated. I do not use conductive wheel sets and instead use logix, train length and transit actions to make blocks active/inactive. This works well but admittedly doesn't capture train breaks, but those are rare.
?
So the problem is, when I now create a new train info file under 5.11.1 I have to choose the 'Head Only' train detection option and this operates a very different allocation/ release routine than the previous and trains become grid-locked.
?
My old train info files run correctly, so for me a quick fix would be to have a train detection option which retains the original allocation/release routine. Is that possible please? It could be called 'Head Only - quick release'?

Re: Panels not rendering well on older iPads #webserver

What is the URL of the page that isn't working? That looks like it is still going to a /panel page, instead of a /frame page, but I can't see the URL in the screenshot.?
I'd also like to see the websocket.org page, as this symptom looks 99.9% like a WebSocket issue.

Re: Panels not rendering well on older iPads #webserver

Hello SteveT -

The websocket protocol works on the older iPads (I checked on echo.websocket.org). I also enabled "frames" and this didn't solve the problem. See the attached pictures for a panel that worked and one that doesn't work.

I appreciate any other suggestions you or others have.
Thanks!
