Re: Signal heads/ masts
John,

I don't know which window manager is used by default with the LX desktop used
with the RPi, but it might be possible to tell the window manager to have the property "always on top" associated with lxpanel windows (what yoy are calling the taskbar is a lxpanel). Since *I* don't use the default window manager, I don't know how it is configured. (I always install my window manager of choice: fvwm2. And generally re-configure the desktop to something very different from the stock default.) Re: Signal heads/ masts
John B,
The bulk of the signal mast logic systems have aspects that refer to the turnout as part of the aspect. Generally labeled diverging and usually another word of two like diverging approach or diverging slow. Physically using a dwarf combined with a high mast is not something in most if not any of the systems. Can you roll your own, yes. But that's a lot more work. Also that high and dwarf combo would not be something immediately understood by most operators. Generally the rule systems expect that you have a mast with one or more heads to display the appearance of the aspects. Never on two different physical devices. But maybe somebody can provide a prototype example. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.com |

JMRI and Digitrax SE8C turnout control
Hello.
I have a question about the max. current rating for the SE8C signal board.
I posted this question on the Digitrax group but have not seen any replies. So I hope someone in this group might have the answer. I do not want to try an output on the SE8C if it can handle a old motor driven turnout motor. This turnout motor does turn power to the motor off of after the turnout moves to closed or thrown.
I use Peco solenoid motors on my layout so I would like to use the turnout control on one of my SE8C boards. I have no idea how old this turnout motor is and I am afraid to try without knowing the boards max. current rating.
Hope someone knows the answer as I have not been able to find this specification anywhere.
Thankyou in advance to anyone who knows?

Maybe this is the way things are, but it's irritating if so
I'm running Steve Todds JMRI image on a RasPi and I've noticed that when you move open windows around, they are "in front" of the task bar and not behind it And not just JMRI windows, but that's the primary use Is there a setting i'm missing somewhere that allows windows to slide "behind" the taskbar?? Re: Signal heads/ masts
John, A two head mast will display the aspect for the mast, not the individual head appearances. ? Signal logic combines the block and turnout states to determine an aspect. Dave Sand ----- Original message ----- From: John Bauchiero <john4dhmr@...> Subject: Re: [jmriusers] Signal heads/ masts Date: Sunday, September 15, 2024 1:16 PM Thanks to all who clarified my signaling question. To move on to full block signaling I want to use masts not as 'DCC Signal Mast Decoder' but as ¡®Signal Head Controlled Mast¡¯, specifying each decoder separately, if I understand correctly. As the former I wasn¡¯t sure how to incorporate the turnout position into the signals.? By constructing the mast from two light-it heads I can use one double searchlight mast on the LE display but have two distinct physical signals, a three light high mast for blocks and, a dwarf for turnout position? I assume that was the method everyone offered. There are so many options that it took a while to find the right combination.? Re: Train Controller
Has TC gone multithreaded yet? Last I heard it was still single threaded, and he wouldn't change it. JMRI is multithreaded because of the way the underlying Java works. On Fri, 13 Sept 2024 at 20:59, Flyingbusman via <andyjack902=[email protected]> wrote:

If Head only , and not using stopping sensors or speed profile? it doesnt know when the physical end clears the penultimate block/section and it cant calculate when to stop and you havent given it a stopping sensor at the far end, it has to stop the train immediately.

This is about when the train has to stop in a section it has just entered.

Re: Signal heads/ masts
Dave, I don't understand the last sentence. ?SML has nothing to do with hardware. ?I suspect that you meant that the OP use "DCC Signal Decoder" if available for the hardware connection. Dave Sand ----- Original message ----- From: Dave Barraza <dave@...> Subject: Re: [jmriusers] Signal heads/ masts Date: Saturday, September 14, 2024 9:35 PM I agree that it would be a lot of work to emulate SML using logix, but I don't think one would want to take that approach. replicating signal logic with JMRI logix is simple, for a simple signal system, and complicated for a complicated signal system. In either case Logix are the way to make the system do precisely what you want since they are explicit. Most are not a "Signal Rivet Counter" as I am so SML is a fantastic tool for most.? ? I also recommend the OP use SML if his hardware supports it. |

Test release 5.9.4 of JMRI/DecoderPro is available for download
#announcement
Test release 5.9.4 of JMRI/DecoderPro is available for download.
This is the next in a series of test releases that will culminate in a production release, hopefully in December 2024. It's really helpful when people download, install and use these test releases so we can find and fix any inadvertent new problems early. If you are currently using JMRI 4.99.10 or earlier, there is an update process that we strongly recommend. See the release note section on updates: <> For more information on the issues, new features and bug fixes in 5.9.4 please see the release note: <> Note that JMRI is made available under the GNU General Public License. For more information, please see our copyright and licensing page. <> The download links, along with lots of other information which we hope you'll read, can be found on the release note page: <> Bob ¡ª Bob Jacobsen rgj1927@... |

Re: NCE CS03 Connection
James,
I rechecked notes and yes the USB end dies in the CS03 when you kill power. You really should shutdown JMRI and then shutdown the CS03. I suspect if you check the logs, it is recording lots of errors due to the lack of response from the CS03. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.com |

Re: NCE CS03 Connection
James,
The SB5 connection with the PC is not in the SB5. It is in half of the NCE USB. That side gets powered by the PC so it stays alive for JMRI. But the CS03, what is the connection there? The website shows it as a USB and if that is the case, you power down the CS03 and the USB end goes away with it. Most users shutdown JMRI while shutting down the layout. There isn't any point to leaving JMRI up with a dead connection. -Ken Cameron, Member JMRI Dev Team www.jmri.org www.fingerlakeslivesteamers.org www.cnymod.com |
