Re: car numbers---setup
#operationspro
The program tracks cars by road and number, so you need to enter them to create the database.? However, you don't need to display them on your Manifest or switch lists. Below is an example using both car's number and road that most folks use:
Scheduled work at Danville
?[ ] Pull SP 163025 Boxcar 40' Silver L<oad> from #133 Herald Star??
?[ ] Pull NKP 87194 Boxcar 50' Tuscan L<oad> from #147 Drywell Ink??
?[ ] Pull CP 30102 Flatcar 52' Black E<mpty> from #133 Kratz Mfg??
?[ ] Spot CNW 1555 Boxcar 40' Tuscan L<oad> to #133 Herald Star??
Train departs Danville Westbound with 1 loads, 1 empties, 877 feet, 993 tons Here's the same, but only the road name, no road number, which is controlled by the Manifest Print Options window: Scheduled work at Danville
?[ ] Pull SP Boxcar 40' Silver L<oad> from #133 Herald Star??
?[ ] Pull NKP Boxcar 50' Tuscan L<oad> from #147 Drywell Ink??
?[ ] Pull CP Flatcar 52' Black E<mpty> from #133 Kratz Mfg??
?[ ] Spot CNW Boxcar 40' Tuscan L<oad> to #133 Herald Star??
Train departs Danville Westbound with 1 loads, 1 empties, 877 feet, 993 tons
And here's a version without road or number: Scheduled work at Danville
?[ ] Pull Boxcar 40' Silver L<oad> from #133 Herald Star??
?[ ] Pull Boxcar 50' Tuscan L<oad> from #147 Drywell Ink??
?[ ] Pull Flatcar 52' Black E<mpty> from #133 Kratz Mfg??
?[ ] Spot Boxcar 40' Tuscan L<oad> to #133 Herald Star??
Train departs Danville Westbound with 1 loads, 1 empties, 877 feet, 993 tons
The car's length, color and load are also optional, so you could have only: Scheduled work at Danville
?[ ] Pull Boxcar from #133 Herald Star??
?[ ] Pull Boxcar from #147 Drywell Ink??
?[ ] Pull Flatcar from #133 Kratz Mfg??
?[ ] Spot Boxcar to #133 Herald Star??
Train departs Danville Westbound with 1 loads, 1 empties, 877 feet, 993 tons

Re: Interchange track question
#operationspro
Sorry I'm not very good with computers. I highlighted all of the text in the build report (using text editor) and I tried both control c and selecting "copy" from the drop down menu. In the reply box I've tried control p (which brings up a print screen) and I've tried to right click but "paste" does not appear in the drop down menu. Is there information about how to do this online somewhere? If so, a link to that might be my best chance. Thanks again. |

If it wants to print, then you hit the wrong key combination. You need CTRL_V, but you do have to first select (put the cursor into) the reply message you're composing. The control key on your keyboard should be labeled "CTRL", hold the control key down and press the p key, that should paste into your reply.??

Re: decoder pro showing idle
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDavid, To check if the LocoBuffer-USB itself is working properly, go to
the LocoNet drop down list and select 'Monitor LocoNet Stats' (4th
item) This should show you the version number of the unit and some
other info. Note that the system must be connected and powered for
this to work properly. If the result is a string of empty boxes
then something is either set incorrectly or not working. Running a
more than year old version is seldom helpful. (just sayin') (just
don't use 4.16) Dick :) On 4/4/2020 7:20 AM,

Re: Operations
When a car with a final destination reaches its destination, the car is available to be moved using the random move method, or if there's a schedule at the destination, whatever the schedule demands the car to do.? It could be a new final destination, or a custom load, or anything else.
2nd question. A car can only be in one train at a time.? However, a car with a final destination can travel on several trains before arriving at its destination.? So when you build a train it carries the car to the next destination when you terminate the train.? This tells the program that the car is now available to be used in the next train.? This continues until the car arrives at the final destination.? Final destinations assigned to cars is an advanced feature, I would recommend that you?and play with the demo files to understand how to use the program using the simple random method to move cars.? Once you can build trains, read the build report and understand how the program works in the simple case, you can move up to the more advanced features if you need them, in most cases you will not need or want the complexity. Sorry to be so much trouble. I was able to highlight all of the text in the build report and select copy.
I don't see a way to paste it here. Control p only brings up a print screen. I know this is not the place to learn how to do these things so l will try to figure it out. I don't want to waste anyone's time. Hopefully I can post the build report soon. Thanks again for your help. |

Operations
After reading the operations manual i dont understand what happens to a car which has a final destination entered in its entry in the cars database after it reaches that destination. How does it get reused??
Also if i want train 1 to bring a car to a yd and train 2 to deliver it to a industry can i build both trains at the same time or must i terminate train 1 before building train 2. tony |

car numbers---setup
#operationspro
Hi everyone, Just beginning to st up JMRI and was wondering if you need to actually put in car numbers or just use the type of car. I am running N scale and would rather just? put a type of car instead of looking for a specific car number. Thanks in advance, Mike

Re: decoder pro showing idle
Have you checked Device Manager in Windows to check that the Locobuffer is actually seen and working as far as Windows is concerned? plug/unplug a few times and watch that it appears and disappears and is not marked with a yellow warning, and also note the Com port. ?Get that right first, if the Locobuffer isn¡¯t registering with Windows no amount of uninstalling and reinstalling JMRI will have any effect at all. |

Re: Error 303
Ross,
Good Morning. The previously successfully read decoder was the BLI Paragon 3 and the programming track was attached to the PR3. I did not change the preferences. It has/had worked in both locations. I didn't know there was a suitable preference and never gave it a second thought. Admittedly, the only Preference I ever changed was the File Location. I honestly don't remember why I changed it. The USB port has not changed. I checked the port in Device Manager and all is well with the drivers and it recognizes the PR3 though it doesn't use that name. JMRI 4.18 has worked for the BLI and other locomotives as well as previous versions. Thanks for your help. -- Richard Richter |

Use the link I gave you to use the text editor and set the build report in very detailed.? Then open the build report and select the text you want to copy,? which is the entire build report, then use control copy, which is the c character.? Then paste into your reply using control paste which is the p character.
