Locked Re: Digitrax programming and Track Power On (was JMRI 4.18 is available for download)

Ok, there is plenty of evidence that this power-on happens. Now we have to try to figure out why, and under what conditions.

Next question - if one powers-up the railroad, with track power off, and waits a minute, then starts a JMRI configuration which _does not_ load any panels or logix or scripts, and then waits a minute or two, does track power mysteriously come on?

I would do these experiments myself, except I have been away from hardware for a while, and do not anticipate having access for a few days more...

Running JMRI 4.18 on Raspberry Pi 3B+ with NCE PowerCab 1.65B, NCE USB and AIU-01.
In PanelPro, NCE->Show Cabs lists the active cabs as 2:ProCab, 8:AIU & 9:USB as expected (I guess it makes sense that the PowerCab is listed as a ProCab).
If you run EngineDriver on two phones, only the loco on the last mobile device used shows up in the Show Cabs list.?
Is it possible to see a line for each phone and if the phone is controlling more than 1 loco, displaying multiple locos would be great.

Locked "Output Matrix Mast" - only 6 lamps #signalmasts

Is there a good reason that the "Output Matrix Mast" can only control 6 lamps? A german combined exit and distant signal can have up to 9 lamps (signal system DB HV 1969). Would be nice to control all 8 aspects via one signal mast.

I think (I'm away from my computer) you go to one of the throttle windows and in the file drop down, click on save as default throttle layout. I arranged mine the way I want them to remain and go into the preferences>startup and add the default throttle layout file in the list of startup items.

Howdy Klaus. By the way, Happy New Year!

I tried to add the stop at zero line, but I believe I am doing it wrong.? I installed (on Win 10 PC) 4.19.2ish and now get a pop up something like "Must be 0 to start", but the enbgine only starts when auto-started, or clicked on screen, not by my throttle.

In my file, I have this code:
????? <trigger name="ENGINE_STOP" type="FLOAT" valtype="FLOAT">
??????? <event-name>SpeedSetting</event-name>
??????? <target-name>ENGINE</target-name>
??????? <match>0.0</match>
??????? <compare-type>LT</compare-type>??
??? ??? <action>STOP_AT_ZERO</action>
??????? <action>STOP</action>
????? </trigger>

So, maybe I need to replace the STOP action with the STOP_AT_ZERO??

Well, I'll see if I can try after lunch.

Thanks for your amazing contributions!

Locked Re: Roster media? #rosterimage

I have to agree with Ken. I¡¯ve been working on the same problem on one particular laptop for over 5 years without resolving it. I have 3 computers, one desktop and two laptops, one new and one 10 years old, all Dells. All three are running up to date Windows 10, and the same version of DecoderPro (4.18) and Java. All 3 have Norton antivirus and all 3 are set to allow DP through the firewall. All 3 have Photoshop and other image editing software on them since that used to be a fair portion of my job, and my wife is a graphic artist. The images are on a shared OneDrive Folder where I have all of the JMRI user files. The images are all .jpg set to 500 pixel width and a 300 PPI resolution. The file sizes vary from about 250kb to 500kb. They originally came from a variety of sources, including ones that I took, ones downloaded from railfan sites, and on-line images from vendor sites. The original image formats were .jpg, .png, and the occasional .gif.

The drag and drop works fine on the desktop and the newer laptop. The older laptop has always shown the red slash circle with all images, including a birthday cake picture I took. It doesn¡¯t matter whether the images are in OneDrive, a local folder, a flash drive, or directly from the camera. However, any of the images can be opened, viewed, and edited on that laptop with any of the photo editing software. It is only DP on that machine that won¡¯t allow them to be dragged in. One thing of interest is that if on that laptop I edited an engines information in the roster.xml file to include the link to the image, it would show up on the roster entry without a problem.?

So after 5 years of fiddling with this I have declared myself officially stumped. I like having the image of the loco on the throttle so I use the desktop PC to drag the images into the Media boxes, so that¡¯s what I use, and the laptops for programming. I don¡¯t think it¡¯s a JMRI problem or an image problem since everything works fine on any other computer. My best guess is aliens manipulating the space-time continuum.

Locked Re: What's a good way to learn jython?

We have the same programming history and age issue. What I did was get the book "Python in easy steps" by Mike McGrath.?$15.
This will give you a good enough of an overview to proceed. I then used examples in the JMRI files to find ones similar ?to my projects.?
Doing that I rather quickly built scripts for ping-pinging my McKeen car, control my grade crossing lights with approaching trains, car traffic lights and controlling my Acela speed as it proceeded thru a nasty curve.?
Start off with a simple task such as controlling an engine running around your track and you'll soon catch on.?

Locked Internal Block Occupancy Sensors ?

Hi
Am I going about this the right way??
I'm trying to get the JMRI layout control? working "Virtually"? before laying real track:??
I'm working on the outer main line which is essentially an oval of 4 CT sensor blocks with 2 passing loops and bi-directional travel throughout. There are forward and reverse stopping sensors each leg of both loops.? I assume that means I don't have any "safe" sections!
I have several turnouts sharing the same block as the track heading into the toe of each turnout. Whereas this saves me (several)? physical sensors, I don't get the option to set a signal (SML) at the toe of these turnouts to protect either of the two blocks on the 'diverge' and 'through' legs. The previous signal(s) therefore? become the protecting partner pair(s) for signals at the ends of these 2 blocks. This results in a long distance of auto trains travelling at unnecessary caution speed? in 2 blocks instead of just the one block preceding the "danger" signal. With only 4 or 5 sections? in the transit and only 2 signals, in one direction,? trains never see a green light? due to their own occupancy, and stay at caution all the time.? ? ?
So I have given one turnout its own block and internal occupation sensor which, by logix, follows the state of the previous (toe) block CT hardware sensor. This means I can now create a new (virtual) signal and place it at the toe of the that turnout.? Then I deleted all the old block paths and signal pairs, saved and restartied JMRI, and re-created the signal pairs. This appears to give the desired result on the one I experimented on.? I plan to apply this method to most of the 22 turnouts throughout the layout.
Is there a better or recognised way of doing this ?
Any contributions most gratefully received!

Thanks for taking a look.
Steve

Locked Re: Request to Add Action to Generate CSV Switchlist in Automation for Operations #operationspro

Phil,

You "could" set preferences in Manifest Creator (MC) to not print, not preview, and not save the file. This would be a rather roundabout way to eliminate output from MC There is no requirement that you print or save manifests that are generated by MC. But since Dan is adding this feature into JMRI there is probably no need to do that. If you like, give it a try and let me know what happens.

Locked Re: Mapping USB to serial adapter to Decoder Pro

Mark:

The USB adapter when you plugged it in did you get the "found new device" from Windows? If so we can do this...

When trying to set up DecoderPro the dialog to make your connection will ask first for system then the connection type and here you select NCE for system and serial for connection (the USB in the list is for NCE's own interface) and then serial port. If the USB is the only serial device you have connected it should be com 3. If there are others we need to figure out which one is the NCE selection. You can connect to the Pro command station and by trying each see if when you then re start DecoderPro you'll see the green online messages at the bottom of the DP pane when it opens..

Let's start there if that's a no go post back with where you stuck and we can dig deeper.

Terry,

I think the key from looking at the screen shots is the circle-slash when
your mouse moves over the icon area. That is saying the system doesn't see
that as a place you could drop a photo. So in a small way it is tell us 'I
can't do this'. But no clue on the why. On my computer, I get the icon to
change to a little tag with 'Move->' in it.

Very good idea¡¯s. My first attempts were straight from the stick . Then transferred those files to the hard-drive and tried again. Just about every variance I could come up with has been tried as well as all the helpful suggestions from here. Like doing the steps in DecoderPro only, opening PanelPro the individual throttles and doing the steps from there. I have shut the system down opened and run both as the administrator, and as you can see ended up taking my own photos, resizing then going through the same process. I now am a firm believer that this issue is with me and my system not JMRI or the PR3 interface. The newest idea that Inobu stated that the virus protection might be hampering this transfer is the only thing at this point the I can think of that I haven¡¯t tried. I am putting this on a back burner for now so I can just enjoy the operation of the system as it runs now. Thank you all for the concern and input! This group is totally AWESOME!

Hello,
I'm using panel Pro with layout editor.? How do you create two panels one in each window and have them open on the screen in different positions?? The two panels will consist of the entire track plan, how do you join them together, with connectors?? I cannot find where this is discussed in the literature.
Thanks.

Phil,

JMRI now includes a solution that is intended for JMRI Test Release 4.19.2.

A daily build package is available here:
(package 3584 or higher).

If you want to preclude the STOP at a speed > 0, please declare <action>STOP_AT_ZERO</action>.

If I understand this right, you want to be able to start/stop the engine
by a throttle function key, e.g. F8. You can do this in config.xml:
<trigger name="ENGINE_STARTSTOP" type="THROTTLE">
<event-name>F8</event-name>
<target-name>ENGINE</target-name>
<action>NOTHING</action>
</trigger>
This must be declared in the tag sound-event name="ENGINE".
Klaus, thanks for this snippet-it works.? I have no idea how the program links this to the Start/Stop action though, and if there is any way to preclude the action if the speed is not zero.
There is no link. When I implemented ENGINE_STARTSTOP, I didn't see a simple solution with config.xml. So I programmed a mechanism for function keys.
I have to think about a solution precluding the STOP action at speed > 0. I tend towards a yes-no-option. So there's no solution at the moment.
