Frank,

One other idea to keep in mind. If when laying track you use lots of gaps
making for lots of blocks, you can later wire some into a single block if
you find you don't need the extra detection ability. This lets you test the
track and feeders to make sure things are separate to begin with. Problems
with cutting the gaps later is knowing exactly where the feeders are and
making sure all the new blocks get fed correctly.

Do this:

1) Open JMRI
2) Delete your panel(s)
3) Do ¡°Store configuration only to file¡± and be sure to pick a _new_ file name
4) Quite JMRI
5) Open JMRI again
6) Load the file you stored in (3)

Your table contents were stored in that file at (3) and will be reloaded at (6). There will be no panels in that file.

I want to delete the panels I have created because I was just building them to test the process. Now I would like to delete the panels, keeping the turnout and sensor table info, and proceed to build the actual working panel.

Billybob, perhaps that's what you are explaining in the rest of your message. However, for clarification (if that even exists to a non-computer guy like me.) please post the instruction on what I need to do to delete all panels and keep turnout and sensor tables intact.

Frank,

I think the issue is wording. When you load the panel file (which doesn't
really need to have panels, but that's another story) it populates the
tables with all the sensors and turnouts. So with it loaded, you just want
to delete the display panels. You will need to click the X in the corner and
when it asks if you really meant to delete it, say yes. Then you must save
the panel file, I recommend a new name for it. Next time, load the new file,
it should just be the table stuff.

If you have the panel file being loaded by part of the 'Startup Files' then
you would have to edit that (and save) to change to the new name of the
saved panel(less) file.

These are set using Vstart (CV2) and Vhigh (CV5) for these ESU decoders. This is by ESU design.

Locked Re: How to run multiple locomotives with one script?

Fred,

The keyword in your request is the word "simple" and how that fits in your context.

Anyone have simple example of how to do this? I don¡¯t have any sensors or complex stuff.

If you attempt to run two copies of "BackAndForthTimed.py" and only edit the loco number within each, the most recently loaded copy will overwrite any previously loaded versions of the script. That is, unless you rename the classes defined. For example, you could edit your copies so that the classes have different names, perhaps BackAndForthTimed1 and BackAndForthTimed2 or append your loco numbers.

But even if that works for you, there are several more complicated issues to deal with, and many of them have been discussed in this group.

For an in-your-face introduction, while logged on to this group's website use the search function at the top of the page with the text BackAndForth to find at least forty previous postings. Your numbers may vary, since each response to this thread will increment the search count, but not necessarily help.

Also, look in the files/Script Examples for several subfolders of examples to pick apart and choose from.

Without any idea of your scripting experience, there is not much more specific help that can be offered. If you wish to examine a heavily documented and lengthy working example that our club uses, respond to me off-list, that is, use the "Private" button just below and to the right of the "Reply" text frame. Again, that is if responding while logged on to the webpage.

Thank you Ken, Dave, Perry, Cliff and Inobu!

Ok, here is the culmination of my frustrating experience...
Finally, I was able to get the USB cable to work.? Oddly, in another port on the laptop.? For whatever reason it would not work in the original port, although, the short extension and the LocoBuffer II do work in that port so I know the port works.? Who knows...who cares.

I am going to take your advice of using a longer LocoNet cable.? I will run it under the house and into the dining room, where the Dispatcher desk is.? The whole reason for a cord of any kind is that I was having drop-out issues with the wifi connection between the layout and the dispatcher's computer.? We ran this through a master/slave arrangement.? So, no point in having TWO computers doing the work of one AND dealing with wifi issues too!

Solution...use a longer LocoNet cable, under the house, from layout to laptop and two (perhaps three) monitors. (Depends on how much layout I can get on two monitors...A REAL CTC machine would be much better!!!).? Currently, we had been using one laptop with three levels of track on one screen.? Terribly small and no option for a CTC type machine on there.

Thank you everyone for your help in figuring this out!? Now...when are you all coming out to visit?? ;-)

By the way, I updated the blog in case you looked in the past few days and only saw old info.? Someday I will get a track plan made and put on there.? Link is below.

Fred,
I have two separate scripts running to control two locos on the same single track mainline with a passing siding for them to meet. An internal sensor set by Logix when they meet permits each script to contineu.

I started with the back and forth timed script and have been able to get it running just once. I¡¯ve added turnout control and run function keys for light, horn, bell. All under timer control. It works great.

But I¡¯ve not been able to run two locomotives in same script by switching the throttle to different number and sending new commands. I get inconsistency. I tried creating a second def and starting both but not consistently working.

Anyone have simple example of how to do this? I don¡¯t have any sensors or complex stuff.

Thanks

Steve

I have discovered a problem with dispatcher. I have a LH crossover. When the dispatcher routes go across the bottom or top the dispatch works ok, but when the route goes from the top rails to the bottom the crossover is set incorrectly and I have to quickly change the crossover before the train moves across.

If you agree with me that the code is wrong, I would appreciate knowing what code is wromg,so I can do a temporary fix.

In addition to Marc¡¯s points, could you check the JMRI log for warning or error messages? It¡¯s at Help -> Console

Hi there -

I'm struggling to get decoder pro to talk properly to my Hornby Elite. What happens is this:-

I Invoke decoder pro, new loco, then click the button to read the type from decoder - all I get is the occasional click from the Elite, with a message on the JMRI panel saying "read mfg cv8", then after a bit I get the timeout error 306. I guess the clicking is JMRI re-trying a few times.

Port is correctly set = COM2 - the only one on the drop-down when I set up decoder pro - and this corresponds to the USB port shown in device manager. Windows 7 SP1. Loco is on programming track, correctly connected up. Programming mode selected is "directbyte". Elite is already switched on when JMRI is invoked. Loco moves forward slightly at each "click" on the Elite (Normal behaviour when carrying-out decoder readings using Railmaster via the Elite). After a few attempts JRMI switches to Paged mode.

Assume elite drivers are on my machine since I have Railmaster installed on it.

I can read the CV OK using the elite, what seems to be happening is that JMRI talks to the Elite, Elite in turn talks to the loco on the programming track, the loco talks back to the Elite but the Elite doesn't seem to want to talk back to JMRI

JMRI is running on a laptop under Windows 7 SP1, JMRI release 4.17.6, PanelPro settings are;-
System Manufacturer: Hornby
System Connection: Hornby Elite USB Port
Serial Port: COM2
Connection Name:XpressNet
Baud Rate: 19,200 bps
Elite connection uses: no flow control

I've tried 2 different USB cables, both of which work perfectly well elsewhere.

Any advice as to what to look at next? Many thanks - Richard

It may help to see the script.

Basically, the IDTags SHOULD be loading the first time the IDTag manager is asked for a tag. ( they don¡¯t automatically load because you may not need them for every session... ).

The script must trigger a path to fetch the ID tags that doesn¡¯t cause the ID tag load to occur when it should. I would like to fix that. ( it may very well be occurring when the car data is loaded.... )

Does the Windows Device Manager recognized COM2 as the " R8214 Hornby Elite (com2)? ". Or simply some serial device on COM2 ? ?
What if you disconnect the USB cable between the Elite and computer, does Device Manager confirm COM2 has vanished ?

306 = no communication with Command station at end of USB cable. ?? It is even surprising you report a knudging of the engine if a 306 error? is present.
