Re: jmri and mac catalina
Putting it on /Applications it probably best. You can still put the icon in the Dock and/or add an alias on your Desktop
More specifically, Catalina doesn¡¯t want applications to be run from ~/Downloads, ~/Desktop or ~/Documents to reduce the chance that malware can run after being downloaded. So you can find places other than /Applications that will work, but it might be better to just put it in /Applications. The contents of the tables have to be loaded from a file. If you¡¯ve done a ¡°store panels¡±, then the tables are also there and will appear when you load that file.
You can also do a ¡°store configuration¡± to store just the tables, no panels, and then reload that file later. (Don¡¯t write over your panel file!) The tables stay in JMRI even if the panels are closed or deleted. If you store a file after that, the tables will be in that file for loading later. No. Wherever you install JMRI on a Mac, it uses the preferences, profiles, roster, tables, etc. in /Users/<yourusername>/Library/Preferences/JMRI/. Even your background graphics should be fine since the JMRI preferences will know they are on the desktop. You'll only have problems if you had put anything inside the JMRI application folder on the desktop - always a no-no as it'll be wiped out with a new version install. <> Dave in Australia |

If this is to be operated by one Dispatcher, you can place them on one monitor and overlap them so each can be brought to the front. I had my panel stacked in two rows and found the separate panels looks much better and works well. You can see them on my web site at Bob Bucklew ----- Original Message -----

Meaning, how much space to allow for the turnout/signal icons on the panel?? I'm using two 22" monitors and want to make sure to have enough room for all turnouts & respective icons from left to right.? I have 55 turnouts that need to be represented.? Is there a way to scale this down or create two rows, one above the other? If you want to make it easier to hit the sweet spot, use the "wide" lever icons like "lever-left-wide.gif" in the /resources/icons/USS/plate/levers directory. There is a complete set of wide icons that look the same as the regular levers, but have a wider transparent background. This makes it much easier to activate them on a touch screen or with a mouse. I created and contributed them years ago because I found it almost impossible to move the signal levers on my touch screen panel. Bob Bucklew ----- Original Message -----

What I've found is that at high screen resolutions, it gets tricky to get the finger or mouse to the right 'hot spot' to trigger the right actions. Noticed that you used colors in the your Manifest. Try only black printing.

Hello
My turnout and sensor tables only show up if I have a panel open.? Is this normal? If I delete the panels, will the tables still be there?? Really don't want to rebuild them. Thanks, Frank -- Frank Kenny

Re: USB 3.0 Cable connected to JMRI not working
What he said¡ I initially tried a 25' USB cable and ran into problems¡ then I switched to a short (3') USB cable and a long (30') RJ45 (phone) cable and now everything works as expected.

jmri and mac catalina
I was wondering what the status of JMRI is with Mac Catalina 10.15.x
I am currently running JMRI 4.17.x on Mack 10.14.x Until now I have been putting JMRI on a folder on the desktop and then dragging the panel pro icon to the Dock to create a shortcut to launch. Other than 2 background graphics lying on the desktop, I have done nothing special to JMRI. I let it create the table it wants to and put them wherever it wants. I think I understand that JMRI needs to be in the applications folder to launch correctly under Catalina. What other things might I have to do or mess with to get JMRI running again after installing Catalina and putting JMRI in the Applications folder. Will I need to set up the preferences again, move table, move my panel pro background graphics, ??? Any insight appreciated. LeFevre Engineering James L. JMRI 4.18 installation -- unrecoverable error on startup
All,
I've been running JMRI 4.16 and 4.17 successfully on Ubuntu 18.04 and just installed 4.18. I have moved aside both earlier releases and they both still work, But after locating my configuration profile OK, 4.18 immediately crashes with: Unrecoverable error encountered. java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/xerces/dom/DeferredElementNSImpl and the usual stack trace that we all know and love. libxerces is installed on this machine. Anyone know what's going on? |

I am not aware of a new COM port, but will check.? And you're probably right about the longer LocoNet cable!? Good idea! Thanks.

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýFrank, I have always extended the LocoNet side so I have no experience with active extenders. From the specs it sounds like it should work. It probably needs external power at the USB adapter end. Dick :) On 12/28/2019 6:08 PM, Frank Kenny CPRX

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýFrank, ? Did your active USP create a new virtual COM port?? Check the device manager; you may find a different COM port for the active USB cable. ? A ¡®better¡¯ alternative might be using a long LocoNet cable from the railroad to the computer location with a short USB cable connecting the LocoBuffer-USB to the computer.? The LocoNet specs allow for very long cables. ? HTH ? Ross ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of

USB 3.0 Cable connected to JMRI not working
Hello,
I use the Locobuffer II USB.? The product has worked with my RR and computer for a long time, and with a 10' USB extension as well. I've moved the dispatch computer to another room so needed a longer cable.? I bought a 50' USB cable extension, however, JMRI says can't find COM port 3 with this cable.? When I plug the old one back in, it works fine.? Suggestions? Here are the specifics of the new 50' USB extension cable: -USB 3.0 Super Speed -5GB Max Transfer Rate -Active Repeater Extender -Power Booster Y-Cable -Signal Booster -Plug and Play Need more details?? Here is the link to the product on Amazon: Thanks for your help, Frank -- Frank Kenny

Changing Car Type

What would be the easiest way to change the type of car delivered to a location without using the schedule feature. Possible need would be delivery of equipment.that may occur once or twice a year.?

Back again...? None of the suggestions changed the behavior.
Ironically, printing a Build Report from the same menu prints fine - multipage. Manifest report, in portrait mode and same printer settings as the Build Report, still generates at printer error.? Strange. |
