You are correct Alfredo. F6 sets the volume. There is also a pot in the bottom of the locomotive, but it seems to have no effect. Unfortunately, the lowest volume is still too loud for my small room in my opinion. I may have to look at changing out the decoder eventually.?

You can see the setup for the JMRI installer here:

That’s the NSIS configuration file which builds the installer. Search for “regis” to see various items that mention registry operations.

What I did not do was to run RegEdit to "find" all the JMRI references still left after running CrudCleaner. The references I found last night was after an install of 4.17.6 after uninstalling 4.16. What i am drawing a blank is how I did the uninstall. For programs I use the Start || Settings || Apps || Apps & Features || the icon for the program being uninstalled which in this case was JMRI.

I also was looking at the authority of LaunchJMRI.exe after the install. "Users" have only Read & Execute & Read authority. I am generally inclined to run an important app with admin authority. Is that a problem? Admins & System users have full authority. LaunchJMRI is in the same folder as the InstallTest batch file but here I probably right clicked the batch file & clicked Run as Administrator.

I will continue to wonder through the logs looking for Errors or something that to me raises a question.

This I observed from a clean, 0% JMRI present in registry, install and then Immediate uninstall of JMRI without using or working with any component of JMRI. There were still 14 changes to registry present re JMRI AFTER uninstall of JMRI using Apps & features.

After a reboot of PC, thinking an update to registry might occur, the 14 changes to registry re JMRI still remain. Granted these are possibly not from the JMRI Installer per say, but they are done during the install process.

And I doubt it has anything to do with what Dennis is encountering, just my observation, for what it is worth.

Looking through the?C:\Program Files (x86)\JMRI folder, I found two error log files named hs_err_pid4864.log & hs_err_pid8532.log.
I'm guessing but I will try the Preferences option again to see if it generates another log file.

JMRI doesn't directly use/modify the registry. Apart from below, you won't find any registry entries referencing JMRI.

The JMRI installer software (NSIS) writes standard? registry entries to indicate that JMRI is installed (Programs and Features).? They are cleaned out by using Uninstall (preferably from Programs and Feature). This will also show up multiple installations.

Peter,? My take is he deleted the roster entry for the engine. Confusion sets in because of the wording he uses.

Frank,? Definition files are what the authors write up and provide? us re decoders.? We then use these definition files and? create our Roster entries from the details provided in the definition file.?

I doubt you? would have played around in the "definition" files them self, let alone delete. This is not something that can be done within JMRI.? You can ADD definition files but not remove definition files from within JMRI. ?

I'm confused about what you actually deleted.
Did you delete a decoder definition? Not something you can do from within JMRI.
Or did you delete a locomotive roster file?

Yes.?? There is a .bak file for each roster entry. This is located where your ROSTER folder is located.?

You can use HELP, LOCATIONS to find where your ROSTER folder is located.? You go to this folder and find your file among? the existing? .BAK files and rename it by simply removing the .BAK portion.

Once this is done, start DecoderPro, and request a ' Recreate Roster Index '.? Your? roster entry should then appear.

If it’s a Zimo (likely on a modern Roco loco), then further CV’s (starting with CV7) will get to both the Zimo software revision and the decoder hardware description.

?

There is a fair chance that the specific version in the loco isn’t in JMRI.? But, that doesn’t matter as 99% of Zimo features are common over a lot of hardware and software revisions, so picking something close in the JMRI list will work fine.???? The task of keeping up with the rate of releases from Zimo is difficult (dozens of software releases, every decoder being end-user upgradeable to any new software version), so quite a lot of small releases don’t get noted and/or don’t get to Zimo definition files in JMRI.

As Marc just said, CV 7 only gives the Zimo Software version number (currently 37 or higher), the decoder model itself is stored in CV250. Thus JMRI should tell you to chose the model depending on the Zimo SW version.

Hi Robert,
It helps when you provide more information as others have suggested.
Here goes with the little we have.
The NEM651 is commonly used in N scale locomotives. As such the decoder is likely to be a Zimo MX648 or MX649, small format sound decoder. Similarly, no problem in programming the address. I use NCE as well as DP.

Could also be as simple as adding the decoder in question to the list.?

At present CV7 = 37 is the highest value in definition file.

I am using version 4.17.5 with an Apple laptop. I used Decoder Pro to program the decoder in a older locomotive. All was working fine until I accidentally deleted the DCC definition in Decoder Pro while trying to speed match it to a second locomotive ?

in there a way to recover a decoder definition that has been deleted?
?Unfortunately I cannot download the deleted definition from the original locomotive as I changed it during my speed matching attempt. Thank you.?

Did the DecoderPro Icon get created on your desktop ?

If you view the content of C:\Program Files (X86)\JMRI??? do you see LaunchJMRI? , Application,? (48KB) ?
This folder is present since InstallTEST can be run.? InstallTEST is a .BAT (batch file)? so these are rarely quarantined.? .EXE files get fenced up.

I just installed JMRI 4.17.6 on my wife's 64 bit Win10 HP portable. It installed and saw the Digitrax PR4. Worked fine, even InstallTEST found LaunchJMRI.

Other thing I can think may have happened is? Windows Defender / Security blocked LaunchJMRI.

I am experiencing what sounds like might be a similar phenomenon. I have a panel developed in panel editor.? The panel is quite wide. Upon initial loading the track icons on the right portion (say about 10%) do not show. Other icons such as text labels and sensor icons do show.? Now if I drag the right hand edge of the panel far to the right, the track icons appear.? Now I can drag the right edge back to the original position and all is ok. I don't even need to release the initial drag, just sweep out to right field someplace and then back. I am on version 4.17.5+Rdf73700 with Java version 1.8.0_231.? I did notice this on a previous version but don't have recollection of just when or what version. I should mention that I have two monitors position left to right.? The left monitor is a wide screen monitor on which the panel fills the screen.

Another thing that is bothersome,? the first time I reposition a JMRI window and then attempt to select something in the window? (say a menu item), there is a very noticeable delay (like 3 to 5 seconds).? This seems to occur only one time (per session).
