Locked Re: MTH DIESEL PROGRAMMING

Guys:

There are issues where the sound volume resets on power up... read even a spot of dirty track... Check the instructions/drawings to be sure there isn't a pot buried in the locomotive to set the volume... Ask me how I know...

The biggest hopp in programming MTH is having a Soundbooster card between your command station and the programming track?
Also my experience with MTH is programming direct without the use of JMRI?

My MTH genset runs great now after I removed the supplied MTH decoder and fitted an ESU unit and I wired the twin motors in series.
The rest of my MTH units are in the works awaiting upgrade.

I’m in the same camp as Bob. I have an MTH F7. I like the sound a lot and don’t want to replace ?the decoder. I’ve been able to program the address With JMRI, but nothing else. The volume control on the locomotive doesn’t work. It’s either on or off. The loco is too loud for my small room so I rarely use it, although it runs and sounds great! ?Any programming advice?

Locked Re: Speed matching tips

Thanks guys! So for speed matching, I’ll set it to 0 and probably keep it at zero unless I consist it with other TCS equipped locos.

Hi all! I've been a long time Sprog user and joined to answer this question that has been driving me crazy. In JMRI, select SPROG Programmer from the menu and select Sprog Console. Under "Configuration", find SPROG Throttle Speed Step Mode. Click on 128 step (it may already be selected) and click on Apply.

Hope that helps someone!

Not yet, but either posting the panel in ProblemsBeingWorkedOn with an appropriate folder (and name), or some more information might help.?

Track can be given a property of Hidden and only show up in Edit mode which is probably what is occurring.

If you are terminating the train and the cars are contiunating to an off line destination,? you need to make ferry`s yard as a C/I yard. Classification/Interchange yard. That way, the cars will be in your yard/boxes until they are needed. That is how I have my RR set up. The train arrives at the yard, I remove the cars from the layout and put them in there storage? box, remove cars from there boxes needed for the next train to leave, then make it up. You will need to set up the yard as you would any other location as to car type, route, and train. I have no problems this way. With the yard set as staging, you have to manualing change the consist in the program. With the C/I setting, the program does for you.

Not sure what kind of ferry it is but all of my boxes are listed as staging so that all of the cars are removed and nothing is left over. I could list each tray separate but I think ?the squirrels would go crazy

Marc: I'm not familiar with TCS but from what you say their manual is not using the word "hysteresis" as it is generally defined. As Chuck says, hysteresis exists when one value of an input results in different values of an output depending on whether that input value was set by increasing a lower value or reducing a higher value. In decoder terms, Notch 2 speed would be different when notching up from 1 than notching down from 3. Hysteresis is what's left over after all the time delays of momentum have faded away when making a speed change. It is different to momentum but could mask it so confuse and complicate the process of speed matching.

" Hysteresis "? This is one big mystery as there is mention on TCS web site of Hysteresis, but browsing the manuals explain nothing but

" Hysteresis - change to notch " and is in sound related CV's of WOW

There is a typo in the WOW manual.. They have it as "hysterasis"? reason why could not find it.

I did not forget this thread, just ran into "life" stuff I have going on seeing as how Christmas is getting close & a 40th wedding anniversary is a couple of weeks away.
Today the RR Club I belong to has their open house, Badgers (Go Badgers) play Ohio State tonight for the Big 10 championship, Packers vs. Washington on Sunday, etc.
Those are important things BUT I really need to get back at the problem DecoderPro is giving me, which I will in a couple?of days.

Thanks for your patience - Dennis Munro

Marc,
I have Soundtraxx, of different eras, in those engines.
From your observations, you also seem to be endorsing " just take the leap forward".?
(Before we sold our home I had to remove a basement layout built but never completed, with the? NCE Power Pro 5 amp system unused. Now the townhome only has room for a small wall-mount diorama and the Power Cab is probably sufficient. Time is always such a vilian. We all accumulate far too many cars, engines, rail, and kits for what we can actually finish....)

It is not the brass engine as much as the decoder that is in it that is of any concern in this.? If the Roster entries were done (I presume) under JMRI 4.4? (2016) and you have not replaced/updated the decoders in question, no great changes have occured with most decoders like the Soundtraxx Tsunami2 or Econami.

ESU decoders on the other hand I suspect it is different as much has changed since JMRI 4.4.

So simply re-reading the decoders is probably best bet.

What make decoders are they ?

David,
Thanks for your thoughts. I can only hope it's that easy. The steam engines are identified by their cab #s so I suppose I could start them, but once you're in your 70's you need to triple check everything in advance.?

My "Thinkpad" laptop runs Windows 10 but when I was last operating a NCE Power cab for a program track was ages ago. checked and found JMRI version 4.4 on the laptop!?
I'm sure I'll have to nurse it forward in steps to protect the data from two brass rod engines.? I need some wise counsel on the best method to bring it up to date.?

If all you're worried about saving data for is two engines, you might well be better off not trying to save that data at all. ? Just install the latest production JMRI and then create new entries and read the CVs for the two engines you have. ? ?It's not much work to read all of the CVs, and that is likely to be a simpler process than trying to move forward in stages. ??

Although I doubt that you'd need to stage upgrades for decoder roster data (that sort of staged upgrade is more typical for panels instead). ? ?If you install the latest JMRI, you might have the roster already there. ? If not, then as I noted before, creating?two new entries isn't hard at all.
